Love this Matcha!

I just got finished writing my full-length review for this tea on the SororiTea Sisters, it will publish in a few days. But to summarize what I wrote there: this is great served hot, whisked up in a bowl the way one would traditionally serve Matcha, and it is also good the way I enjoyed it yesterday – as a Matcha Milkshake. I put ice cubes, milk and Matcha in the blender and blended until creamy and smooth. Absolutely refreshing and delicious.

The strawberry is good and strong (I used the distinctive flavoring level, and starter Matcha), and the Matcha is rich and creamy. Very yummy! Glad I got this one!

Now THIS has a smell – strawberry matcha is bold and in your face once opened. It reminds me of strawberry lollipops and other strawberry candies. Definitely doesn’t smell like a fresh strawberry, but that’s okay since it isn’t one. I am thinking right off the bat that I will like this one better cold as the idea of hot strawberry is a little iffy, but I try everything hot first cuz that’s how I like my tea.

Sifted and whisked up 1/2 teaspoon of this bad boy, the steeped smell puts me in mind of a strawberry bath bomb. Unfortunately that means it smells good in theory but is not at all something you would want to ingest. I feel like I am about to eat playdough or something else equally ill prepared for human consumption.

The taste does not match the aroma (thank God!) but the aroma is there in my nostrils and not going away. I don’t get a taste of chemicals, but neither do I get the sweet strawberry I hoped for. Actually, I don’t get a lot of anything. There is that light bitterness I seem to find in all matchas but not a whole lot else. As I continue to drink, I get more of a buildup of flavour, unfortunately what is building up puts me in mind of chemicals. Ugh.

I’m going to add a drop of honey and see if that makes any drastic changes. With honey, the smell is the same but the taste has improved marginally. Now it tastes like slightly honey flavoured chemical waeter. With the foam I actually feel a bit like I’m drinking the suds in a bubble bath. Okay, this will be one to try cold, or as an addition to a smoothie. After having tried 4 flavoured matchas and 1 unflavoured, I am coming to the conclusion that matcha isn’t for me. Luckily, the beau likes it and will use it all up but I wish I hadn’t invested in it. It upsets my tummy sometimes too, which is annoying. I don’t know why green teas hate me, but it’s disappointing.

When I purchased my last set of matcha, there were a few fruit teas I wanted to try. I knew for sure I was trying Belgium Chocolate and Cheesecake – so what fruit would go with those two? Hmm.. Strawberry Cheesecake matcha? YES. Chocolate covered Strawberry matcha? Double YES! And thus, Strawberry matcha was in my cart and a legend was born! Found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html

How dramatic! Let’s get to the good stuff: as always, I fall in love with the first sniff. Cutting open the corner of the gold foil bag was like a flavour overload! The sweet strawberry scent was too good to be true – and happily for me, it tasted just like it smelled!!!

That can be rare in a tea, but I’ve come to learn that Red Leaf Tea sets their bar just as high as I set mine! That leaves me very rarely disappointed, and almost always happily surprised with the quality, scent and flavour! Strawberry was no exception!

(Excuse the amount of exclamation marks, I really can’t help it)

I ordered by my usual parameters: Basic Grade Matcha with Delicate flavouring. One day I will invest in tins, but right now I have a system that keeps my matcha fresh – a mix of the tiny tins from DavidsTea (from their “Wall” teas), and freezer bags kept in a special tin box. It’s pretty and I like it! I kind of thrive in a world of controlled chaos – it’s either the artist in me, or the lazy in me! Probably both – but I thought I should share my “technique” since the tins are a hot topic these days!

On to the taste! I truly was taken by surprise. The flavour is simple but so effective that from this experience, I can’t think of a better combination than matcha and strawberries. That’s not to say that RLT has amazing flavour combos and super unique matchas – there is something just so simple, comforting and naturally delicious about this Strawberry Matcha. It’s tangy and sweet – I prepared it first straight up with a bit of sugar, second as an iced matcha latte. The flavour was a mix between strawberry milk (I used to devour the stuff as a kid) and a melted strawberry milkshake!

This inspires me to get some good quality vanilla ice cream and whip it up in my blender with this matcha! I looove matcha icecream and strawberry icecream, so I can’t think of a better combo for a homemade matcha shake! Hello! Need to do this before summer ends though… it’s coming to a close 

At least this matcha can be a little taste of summer all year long!

I will probably use vanilla matcha instead of strawberry for this one.. but.. you guys: I ordered a Zoku! AH! I’M STOKED!
YAY for visa points to buy things for free when you’re broke!

This is the recipe that inspired me to buy the Strawberry matcha, even if I won’t use it in the recipe:

Strawberry or Amaretto for my second matcha for the day? Probably will be my last, unless my daughter bends my arm to try the amaretto later, in which case that means if I have strawberry now I can have amaretto later without AS much guilt. Not that matcha is a guilt ridden drink but since I add milk, and creamer, it kind of turns into one. My daughter REALLY wanted amaretto matcha and I got it in the white tea base for her since she is not so much into vegetal flavored teas. So alas I shall have this one, strawberry! Haha isn’t it awesome how we figure out ways to get to enjoy even MORE tea!!

This is where you can find the strawberry matcha that I am reviewing and make your purchase: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html

So here is what I was expecting. I am a snob when it comes to two flavors, chocolate, and strawberry! Strawberry and chocolate are flavors that can really taste icky when done poorly. Chocolate can taste cheap like cheap chocolate easter egg candies we would get as kids, at least in my family haha. My husband LOVES those cheap o chocolate eggs but not me, I prefer expensive chocolate, the good stuff. Now as for Strawberry, this can often taste like chemicals, totally fake tasting, and it will smell that way more often than not as well.

This strawberry on the initial sniff did not have that chemical aroma but on a deeper sniff did have a bit of a “bite” in the nasal cavities but you really had to take a deep whiff to get it. Luckily I didn’t end up snorting my matcha!

The matcha I ordered is formulated as follows:

Options:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Distinctive
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)
I paid an extra 3.00 for the small metal container.
I also believe that my matcha base was upgraded to Royal matcha (Premium Grade) due to Red Leaf Tea being out of starter matcha but I could be wrong about this – regardless their starter matcha is excellent quality and better than some other companies higher grade matcha!

So onto the preparation of my strawberry matcha and matcha latte to follow:

I made my strawberry matcha using a cute pottery bowl I got a steal on from a site called fab. When I ordered it I had no idea that I would be using it for a matcha bowl. I got two of them thinking they were large enough for cereal but they ended up being the perfect sized chawan! I used the matcha whisk I got from steepster select before they stopped the program which I hope is back soon and the scoop that also came in that package. Just keep in mind you really do not need those items, you can use a fork, kitchen whisk, even a battery operated whisk! For me, froth is not too important personally. What is important though is to strain the powder I use a typical kitchen wire strainer, like the kind you may use to strain pulp from orange juice while filling your glass. The finer you get the powder the better! Note though that I think it is the flavoring perhaps that Red Leaf Tea uses but there will be these little crystals left over in the strainer, be sure to use your scoop or something to grind those through the strainer or at least just turn the strainer over and put them back into your powder. They seem to end up devolving into your mix. I have noticed this with ALL flavors from Red Leaf, not just strawberry. At the advice of another steepster – I wish I could remember who, I made a paste with the powder and enough water to cover the bottom of the bowl and about a 1/4 of an inch past that. Once I got my froth going I added the rest of the water. Then I fill a tall glass with ice, add milk, and a slight tiny splash of vanilla creamer, then the matcha tea mixture. I always taste the straight matcha first when trying a new flavor.

This matcha – straight – before adding to my iced mixture, was really good, slightly tart, a slight TINY bit of a chemical taste, but not bad, it seemed to just give it more of a tart kick. Also note that I opted for distinctive flavoring with this one which I honestly feel is enough – normally I go with Robust, which you could opt for Robust if you really want a HUGE strawberry taste but I think distinctive for this is fine. You can totally tell this is strawberry!

Once I added the matcha mixture to the tall glass with all my mixings in it the real party began! The vanilla creamer – just a splash mind you – made this taste like strawberries and cream dessert sitting atop a nice wedge of white cake, or dare I say, cheesecake even! Oh now I just realized I totally need to order some cheesecake matcha from Red Leaf tea, oh yes they do have that flavor too! You can also combo order matchas, mixing two kinds together or more if you contact them to ask them to do so! I personally would opt to just order a straight cheesecake flavor so I could mix and match my own combinations here at home. Strawberry and Cheesecake matcha mix – oh yes – please!
Sorry I got distracted there … so THIS matcha, in my mix of creamer, milk, and ice is delightful. Its fresh, zesty I may even say, slightly tart, yet the sweet of the creamer does add to the goodness, I love how the matcha base is just the right strength to let me know I am in fact drinking a quality matcha here, its earthy, vegetal, and fruity with the lovely strawberry flavor.

You know this matcha screams summer and while I have been longing for autumn to get here for the weather this mix makes me feel like going down the street to our local fruit farm and grabbing up a bunch of fresh strawberries! Yes I am lucky to have fruit farms close to my home. The grassy matcha base along with the fresh fruity aroma of strawberries just makes me sit back and appreciate summer a little while longer. This would be SO GOOD mixed with some orange juice in a smoothie rather than a milk based drink as well. This makes me want to just play around with this flavor and see what all I can come up with! I bet an actual cheesecake made with this matcha would be sinfully divine!

I love it when a tea is inspiring! When you start to day dream, feel appreciation for small things like strawberries at the fruit farm. When it makes you want to get inventive and try new mixtures. This is what this matcha flavor has done today for me. I won’t promise or swear that there is absolutely no chemical like flavor to this however as picky as I am I would say that most people would not notice it at all. I know that Red Leaf does use all natural flavorings so I am not worried at all about what is used to flavor this matcha, its probably just a thing I personally have with strawberry flavor but it is one of the best strawberry flavored teas I have had, and the only strawberry matcha I have ever come across!

Soooo i feel bad that this is my 500th! tasting note and I don’t have much time to craft it at work today. Release weekend means that we’re having a few issues this morning :( However, i have to say, if you’re a fan of strawberries this is wonderful! I made this as my smoothie this morning and it was fantastic! It was like that perfect strawberry ice cream where the strawberry taste is GENUINE! not that artificial strawberry taste you get from “neopolitian” ice cream.

I picked this up as distinctive and it is pretty much spot on for what i’d want in terms of flavouring level.

mmmmmm morning matcha smoothie! Opted for something a little fruitier today to continue my quest to get my cupboard in order heh. While i really enjoy this matcha, i think i prefer the blueberry now that I’ve tried it. The flavours are a little more delicious and intense in the blueberry. The strawberry is still a yummy flavour but i’m not sure i need to keep it around on a permanent basis. I’d rather treat myself to this flavour from time to time.

In my continuing quest to figure out which Matcha flavours are my favourite, I opted to pick up the strawberry matcha a while back but haven’t had time to do a proper review. Since I’ve managed to do a sipdown today, I figured this was as good a time as any :)
I won’t bore you with the packaging except to say that if you’re picking up matcha from Red Leaf, it’s a good idea to pick up one of their tins as well to store the matcha after you open the non re-sealable package.
The scent of this matcha is delicious and totally like natural strawberry flavouring. The first smell of this matcha when I opened up the package was amazingly delicious! I really love that the strawberry isn’t artificial.
I made a strawberry smoothie with this matcha – frozen banana; milk and matcha! The first sip of this tastes like ice cream made with real strawberries. The kind of ice cream that you pick up from a dairy or one of those mom and pop stores. It actually made me think of the little place up north that Ian and I visit when we go up to the cottage – Kuwartha Dairies. They make the most amazing ice cream and milk related product fresh! It’s soooo delicious and this matcha makes me think of their strawberry milkshakes.
I’d order this again in a heartbeat :)

My matcha was composed of the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Dinstinctive

Buy it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html

Man i am a slow poke today with my tea logging. Finally getting back to a more normal work load with more people coming in to work. I had this one again today because it’s almost out lol. Digging the strawberry to wake me up in the morning :)

mmmmm matcha morning! I didn’t have any matcha this weekend so I was in a little bit of a NEEEEEEEEEDDDDD matcha mood this morning. I opted for the strawberry to keep things light since the two teas i’m having this morning are heavier. I really like the way this works with the milk to create an almost strawberry milkshake type drink for the morning. Even better than I don’t need any sweetner to make it tasty and delicious (not that i use sweetner almost ever but still…makes me happy).

Sadly today’s smoothie didn’t turn out quite as aweesome as the first. There’s a delicate balance of getting the banana into the freezer before it gets too ripe..but ripe enough. lol today i have an over ripe banana which always DOMINATES the smoothie no matter what. Still tasty, but not as strawberry like as I wanted this morning.

Holy cow! Strawberry matcha is incredible! The aroma alone is intoxicating. But that taste! Ooooh, that taste!!! I want to bathe in this stuff! FYI: Milk frothers make great matcha. Verry smooth. No grit. Thank you soooo much to Indigobloom for sharing with me! I enjoyed this so much that I’m off to make another matcha sample!

I’m addicted to matcha lattes, and Strawberry Matcha from Red Leaf is one tasty matcha with which to make a latte! It’s amazing how good a quality matcha frothed with a little warm almond milk and a bit of agave can taste.

Initially I couldn’t really taste much of a strawberry-y flavor, but as my latte cooled the strawberry flavor began to develop. This matcha has a really delicate, fresh, natural, strawberry essence that makes for such a treat. The only downside to Red Leaf Strawberry Matcha is the crazy high price. Matchas are known to be pricey but this one is $19.00 for a 30-gram bag. I suspect drugs may be cheaper. I don’t know what kind of drugs, just drugs man.

This is the other Red Leaf matcha that my friend brought over today for sampling and “matcha lessons.” First I made a fruit smoothie with organic blueberries, bananas, and strawberries, raw cane sugar, and Greek yogurt. I put all that in the blender and then sifted this on top of it. I added crushed ice on that, and turned the blender on until everything was smooth and creamy. It was so good!

Next I made a matcha latte with it. It was the usual method….sift matcha into tall glass, add cold water, whoosh, add honey, whoosh, add milk and crushed ice. Wow! The strawberry was strong! It was good, very good, but you seriously could get the distinctive flavor level instead for this one and not be disappointed.

We watched a movie and split an Otis Spunkmeyer muffin and I slurped on the last bit of water from the ice melting from my last latte. It was still sweetly strawberry flavored, which gave me an additional idea. With our muffin, we had “matcha water.” I got a sport water bottle, sifted some matcha into it, added a tiny bit of water, and shook it like mad. Then I added water almost to the top and crushed ice.

We poured it off into two glasses and drank it with our muffins. There is no sugar added but it is still an enjoyable drink. (We were just discussing how I feel so bad when I add a tablespoon of honey to a large latte and think nothing of downing a Coke, which has more than twice that amount of sugar! If you don’t see it going in, I guess you don’t think about it.) I like this for days when I am working in the yard and it is hot outside, or for a workout drink.

Bottom line, strawberry matcha was going on my order, too, until my friend told me that one of matcha they ordered is for my birthday, which is coming up soon! Squeeee!

Wowsa this is great! Hot, it tastes like strawberry candy, the creamy kind with swirls in in. What were they called again? I’ve forgotten! Sweet and jammy. I did need to add some agave though.
Cold, I get more fresh tart fruitiness. Lovely :)
Overall, I definitely prefer it shaken bottle method. The tartness has just enough zing that it reminds me of eating those wild baby strawberries, and thus it reminds me of my Aunt’s cottage, where I used to find them sprinkled alongside the path leading towards our lake. Honestly, they taste JUST like that, only better because they were often a little too sour! heh.
Next, I really wanna try this as a latte. I’m not one for soy milk, but I think the flavours would go really well together. In my head, it will be the perfect latte! Oh and with peppermint as well. That is the combo I look forward to trying out most :P
Oh yah, I did mix it with butterscotch at one point. It was ok but I think I prefer those two when made separately. Dunno why but I do!
Anyhow, in this order I got Basic grade, Robust level flavouring, small size. And a tin. Always go with a tin.
If you want some for yourself, go here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html

It’s been awhile since I had a matcha, made the regular ol’ way. Lately, it’s been shaken bottles and smoothies.
Upon realizing that last night, I immediately dove for my strawberry matcha, because all of a sudden I had the most undeniable neeeeeed for berry goodness in a cup!
No additives needed, it was super sweet on it’s own. So very tasty. I love that it’s tart strawberry made this way, and campino candy via shaken bottle! Definitely one I will want to replace, but there are so many other flavours I’d like to try… what ever shall I do? (answer? order more matcha!!)

My grandma bought me a magic bullet for christmas so I could make matcha smoothies :) I made a strawberry one today with some milk and ice. Gosh it was sooo good. It kinda reminded me of that strawberry sugar syrup you put in milk as a kid. This matcha is one of my favorites its such a delicious strawberry. To me its not a real strawberry taste but its not to fake that I don’t like it. It more of a candy strawberry which is just fine and yummy for me.

I got this matcha in the mail two weeks ago and haven’t reviewed it. Why? Because I’ve been all kinds of sick (cough cough) and I didn’t want to soil my tea-drinking experience with those nasty cold germs.

I had high expectations for Red Leaf Tea’s Strawberry Matcha. I’ve had incredible experiences with each and every other tea I’ve ordered from them, so I knew I was in for a great tea-drinking experience with the Strawberry Matcha. Most of the teas I’ve tried from Red Leaf so far have been flavored with “natural flavoring” rather than the fruit or substance itself, so I was looking forward to trying something even closer to nature. This is also my first fruit-flavored matcha!

I should mention I don’t really like strawberries. “So why did you get a strawberry matcha you silly little girl?” you may wonder. Well, my relationship with strawberries is a little more complicated than that. Growing up with fresh garden-picked fruit and vegetables, the lack of tasty strawberries was the biggest food disappointment I found when my family moved to Toronto. All the strawberries here taste like cardboard to me. BUT, I do love anything flavoured with strawberries. Strawberry milk? I’m there! Strawberry ice cream? Yes please! Strawberry shortcake? Well, I could go on and on. Needless to say, my past records with food were pointing me in the direction of strawberry matcha and that was the direction I followed. And am I ever glad I did!

I love this matcha. I could rave on and on about the multitude of ways it can be served and the multitude of health benefits it offers. First, I tried it in cold water. Delicious. There’s a real freshness from the matcha and a strong strawberry aroma and flavor. It tastes like a strawberry juice. Next, strawberry matcha in cold almond milk. Mmmm. This was excellent. It really brought out the strawberry milk flavour I’ve adored for as long as I’ve been aware of its existence. Really tastes like a strawberry dessert. Love it! Then, I decided to try it in hot water. It’s still great! It seems a bit strange to drink what tastes essentially like hot strawberry juice and like it, but I deceive you not, my palate found it quite appealing. And finally, in hot almond milk? Mmmm. Very comforting. Warm strawberry milk.

I can see myself really enjoying this matcha daily in a million ways. I plan to try it in milkshake form. I’m going to get some vanilla ice cream (of the alternative milk persuasion as cow’s milk offends my digestion) and blend it up with some of this and a bit of almond milk. Then, I’m going to try blending strawberry match with a frozen banana and some almond milk, and maybe a bit of honey. Then, I’m going to bake it into muffins along with some strawberries. Mmmmm. I can’t wait to exploit this matcha to its fullest potential. I can’t believe I deprived myself of its goodness for nearly two weeks. But it was worth it. I love this! LOVE!

Matcha where have you been all my life! I mentioned in another review of Red Leaf Tea’s Matcha tea that my discovery of tea is a very new adventure for me and that after reading rave reviews on Steepster about Red Leaf’s eclectic selection of flavors, I gave it a try. I wonder now how I got along without it. I got my daughter hooked and recently had my son try it. He immediately ordered some for himself. After tasting it, it is not a question of “do I want to order some”, it is more like “how much and what flavors should I order”! Trust when you look at all the flavors they have to offer, it is extremely hard to decide!
My second order came last week and I could smell the wonderful matcha before I opened the box! First up for testing was the Strawberry flavored matcha which you can find here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html
Sweet and naturally tasting Strawberry flavor. In an effort to lead a healthier lifestyle, I find Matcha tea to be so versatile. I added a teaspoon of Matcha, a half a cup of plain greek yogurt & a few fresh strawberries, a little almond milk & ice in a blender and I had a delicious healthy smoothie!

Mmmm strawberries. I cannot begin to tell you how much of my life has been spent picking strawberries. As a child, I hated it, but now I remember it fondly…isn’t it weird how that happens? So good…strawberry shortcake is the most delicious thing in this world. Especially made with fresh, sun ripened strawberries. As long as I can remember, my mom has had a row or two of strawberries in her yard. When we lived in Michigan and we had room to garden (and soil that was more than just clay), we had tons of strawberries. Tons! But then we moved to Tennessee, and the soil there was not as habitable, but she still managed to squeeze some delicious berries out of that red clay. So strawberries and strawberry flavored things that actually taste like strawberries always remind me of her and of that gorgeous garden she kept in Michigan. Of course, they also remind me of the time I was about 7 and picking strawberries in the garden when I felt some grass brush over my foot. I looked down to see a snake slithering over my foot. shudders I have never screamed so loud in my life. And thus a lifelong fear of snakes was born.

So the real question here is will this matcha be a snake or a shortcake?

Shortcake. Oh my goodness, shortcake. This smelled amazing when I opened the package, like creamy, sweet strawberries. Like, well, strawberry shortcake, to be honest. Guh, I just want to dive into it. I took it to work with me and my mind was blown by it. I kept getting distracted by how good it was. I love a good tea. I’m trying to figure out which six I want to keep in stock and this is a definite front runner. I think mixing this with a little French Vanilla would be out of this world. I love berries so most of my smoothies are berry smoothies…this will be an amazing addition to that particular mix. Now, it doesn’t have that hint of tartness that fresh strawberries do, but that’s okay. I’m in love anyway. It tastes like strawberry candy, but I know Red Leaf Tea doesn’t use artificial ingredients, so I’m very excited to have this. Next time I’m craving a bag of strawberry puffs, I’m going to reach for this instead. Mmmm…maybe I’ll take some of this to work with me today too! I love strawberries (though I love blueberries more) – the strawberries back home in Canada were petite and full flavor – all the strawberries packaged from California were kinda large and bland. Now that I live in California, the strawberries are GIANTIC and full of flavor! I procrastinated on getting this matcha.. just strawberry? I like wild matchas like Eggnog and Pistachio! But really, strawberry matcha seems like a mandatory flavor to try (and add to my cheesecake matcha).

Specs on the matcha I’m drinking:

Strawberry Matcha
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html
Matcha Quality: Classic Basic Grade
Flavor: Distinctive

Out of the gold foil package, the matcha smells like juicy strawberry, like smelling strawberry fruit leather or a strawberry flavored candy.

Prepared as a traditional cup of hot matcha, 1/4tsp of sifted strawberry matcha whisked in some 175f filtered hot water, the green tea comes out as deliciously earthy with no bitterness. The strawberry is bright and present, adding a hint of sweetness. The taste combined almost reminds me on when I eat strawberries too fast and I accidentally eat the stem or a leaf, which happens often haha!

Now my favorite part, making this matcha into an iced strawberry soy latte! I did about ¾ or 2/3 cup of light soy milk (ran out of milk), bit of sweetener, 1/4tsp of matcha and whisked it. The result: very tasty strawberry balanced with the taste of matcha. Even better than strawberry soy milk as it tastes just like strawberry candy. An amazing treat for under 90 calories!

Overall, very delicious if you are into the strawberry candy flavor. As a traditional cup it is pretty good, but even better as a latte. I suggest not to pass this one up.

EDIT: tried this straight iced, a tumbler of water with 1/4tsp of this matcha = really good! The strawberry is bright and barely sweet.

Now that I’ve tried a couple Delicate, Distinctive and Robust matchas – delicate is like the flavoring is really like a hint of flavor. Distinctive the flavoring seems 50/50 60/40. Robust is pretty strong flavoring, and depending on what you are getting (IE: eggnog, pumpkin pie) the matcha is barely there. I’m guessing fruity matchas are best at Distinctive or lower – my raspberry matcha at Robust seemed pretty over the top strong.

uh oh! I can see the bottom of the tin now!

I made this matcha as a breakfast drink – so soy milk, some ice cream, frozen strawberries, soy protein powder and matcha. yum!

I feel like having adventures today, a sunny saturday in Long Beach! Hmmmm.

So I ordered from Red Leaf Tea when they had the sale! Wow! First, they shipped out so fast! Second, this matcha is so tasty! Finally, I haven’t touched matcha in years! My matcha utensils have been gathering dust, so I was excited to bust them out today.

I am approaching 12 weeks this Sunday! woo! I am cheating and having some caffeine! I read that I could have less than 150 mg/day of caffeine… or about one cup of coffee per day. I absolutely love strawberry and have been having bouts of cravings for strawberry. This was perfect. I sifted 2 bamboo scoops full of this matcha. The scent was like strawberry ice cream… not sorbet. I whisked as best as I could. What I got was a nice murky green with a bit of froth. Absolutely divine! I love the taste. The strawberry flavor was subdued, which was good. The matcha didn’t have any astringency, and it went down my throat smoothly. Delicious! I am a fan! I can’t wait to try the other matcha flavors (caramel, almond, amaretto) that I bought!

This is a sipdown! I finished the last bit of this delicious strawberry matcha and made a matcha latte. Mmm! I heated up some fat free milk and mixed in the matcha. I love the subtle flavor of strawberry and cream. Delicious and such a great treat!

A little goes a long way for this! I can’t believe I have so much left of this matcha. I drank this one a lot! This is such a great, versatile beverage. I mixed a small amount in my travel mug and added a lot of water and milk! Delicious!

So I made a strawberry & blueberry smoothie today! After adding my frozen strawberries and blueberries, water, and apple sauce, I added some of this strawberry matcha! YUM! Delicious and very thirst quenching. :)

Get your Strawberry Matcha here, folks!
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberry-matcha.html

I love my morning matcha smoothies, I feel like I’ve woken up from a wonderful sleep when I finish them. I mix 1 cup of frozen fruit, 1 cup of almond milk, 1 scoop of protein powder, and 1 tsp of matcha. Let me tell you, the Strawberry Matcha with frozen strawberries and chocolate protein powder is to DIE for!! It’s the slightest hint of fruity flavor (delicate flavoring) with the crisp cleansing taste of a high quality matcha.

I haven’t tried this hot yet, or just shaken in cold water but the cold water matcha with the strawberry is my next plan. My original matcha was English Toffee and I liked that with just cold water, so I can’t even imagine how much I will love the Strawberry cold. It’s a great drink to carry with me to meetings during the day because it is refreshing yet energizing and I know that I am doing my body a healthy service by sipping it.

I would highly recommend this to new matcha drinkers because it is a familiar flavor and easy to mix many different ways. Especially if you love a morning smoothie…this is seriously an epic and awesome addition to a fruit smoothie, I imagine it’s even better with some pineapple and banana…yum!

Well on my last Red Leaf order I just had to order it with the Champagne matcha.. Strawberries and champagne! :] Anyways you can find this matcha here:

Opening this package was such a joy! The smell was delicious! It smelled like ripe, tart strawberries. It almost reminded me of those strawberry hard candies with the soft center. Ugghh.. now I’m craving them :[ This even made my kitchen smell so wonderful! Yay :] I love when that happens!
To me the flavor is somewhere between natural strawberry and candy strawberry. It’s a little more on the candy side but that makes it all the better! For some reason it kind of reminds me of the fluoride at my dentist’s office(which is totally a good thing because I LOVE that fluoride. It also tastes like the candy :D and that is the last thing I say about teeth tonight :]). Anyways.. the strawberry works SO well with the matcha. They bring each other out so nicely. This matcha is not only sweet. It has a little bit of a tartness to it! But that just adds to the experience! I think it’s safe to say this just might be my new favorite matcha from Red Leaf! :] So I will leave you the link just in case you need to order some amazing matcha:
