Oh… YUM! I’ve had this twice today, actually. The first I served traditional style, in a bowl, whisked with water until frothy. It was good like that. But for the serious YUM factor, you’ve got to do this one as a latte. It gives an added boost to the creaminess of the cheesecake flavor, that if I didn’t know better, I’d swear I was drinking a cup of warm liquified cheesecake. So very good.

Just warm some milk, sift the matcha, add the warmed milk, and whisk (I wouldn’t use your bamboo whisk with the milk, as it might encourage bacteria growth. I’d get a wire whisk or a hand frother) until completely incorporated, and drink. …that last part happens very quickly, as my cup is already empty.

Yummy… and certainly glad I got it. Is it my favorite Matcha flavor from Red Leaf? No. Pear is still the best. :)

I needed a pick-me-up after attending my youngest daughter’s orientation for the new school year. There were too many screaming kids and just too many people for this agoraphobic. And I forgot to take my Ativan before attending so I ended up walking away with my body seizing up and in pain. Ugh… the joys of a panic attack.

So I needed this. I made a latte again, and I really like it like this. Usually, I’ll go for the traditional style preparation for the flavored Matcha but, the cheesecake is just so much better with that little added creaminess. It’s good in the traditional preparation, but as a latte, it’s awesome.

And even with the extra flavor that the milk adds, it doesn’t mask the flavors. In fact, I think I can taste the flavors better with the milk than without with this one. I can taste the cheesecake: the sweet, creamy, tangy flavor of cream cheese and even the crust. I don’t know that it’s really “graham cracker” crust that I’m tasting, but, I do taste a buttery, pastry like taste. It’s really yummy.

I have to say, I’m sitting here tonight and feeling happy and grateful for my Steepster family. I love this place we can come and feel so at home!

I’m also grateful for Red Leaf Tea’s matcha program – it’s allowed me to try so many amazing teas that I otherwise could not afford at this time – and I and SUPER grateful for this cheesecake matcha!

Holy tasty! Creamy and tangy and sweet – without the feeling of a heavy stomach afterwards. so… I can have as many cups as I want. I like that.

I will definitely be trying this flavour with other matcha bases, because I am in matcha heaven right now!

Okay, I was wracking my brain to think of which matcha I had left to review. I actually had to go into my cupboard and sort my Recently Added to figure it out… it was CHEESECAKE! How could I forget?! I’ve been drinking this glorious Matcha almost every day, not even kidding. I know it’ll be the first I run out of and the first I run back to order more of! I might get a tin just for this one, because I know it will be in my cupboard forever. Dear Red Leaf Tea, never stop making matcha!!!! Love, your adoring fans!

I have had 2 amazing cheesecakes in my life. One was purchased on a trip to Vancouver from the market on Granville Island. It was tiny. It was expensive. It was amazing! The second was this week from a place called Broadway Cheesecake (something like that) here in Halifax. They have so freaking many kinds of cheesecake, it is crazy! 8 bucks a piece, but the pieces are HUGE. Why am I telling you this? Because this matcha trumps them. It puts the power of cheesecake into my little hands, adds green tea powder to make it amazing, and tastes like heaven on earth!

That may seem a little dramatic, but it’s the only way I know how to truly show how much I appreciate this matcha in my cupboard. The taste is tangy, thick and a bit sweet. If you add sugar it has the decadence of a perfect cream cheese icing. If you add milk (I tried 2%, almond and vanilla soy) it’s a slice from a fine bakery (or cheesecake from home, arguably the best kind!). If you drink it hot – it’s fresh from the oven! Iced? It’s a perfectly chilled and dense New York piece from the fridge. I could go on, but I guess what I’m trying to say is: Any way you slice it, this Cheesecake Matcha is the best of the best – it has the power to turn my crappy tired morning into an awesome day. Just sayin’.

One of the best features of this flavour (and many of the other dessert matchas) is that you get the delicious taste of a rich cheesecake without the tummy-ache and super full and heavy feeling. I won’t say without the “guilt” because I am highly against self shaming, especially in the food department. With that in mind – this tea doesn’t completely replace a cheesecake. I’ll still eat my fair share of cheesecake! What this tea DOES do is let you have cheesecake every day – even if your tummy is full or your wallet is empty! THAT my friends, is the magic of matcha :D

Thanks for reading this ramble. I’m kind of passionate, can you tell? ;)

Your crazy if you don’t get some NOW as it is on sale for 11.19 – that is an insanely low price for an amazingly good matcha – both in flavor and base quality! I love Red Leaf Tea the company, their service, their dedication to customer support and involvement and their teas, especially their matcha but they offer many other wonderful teas as well.

This particular matcha tastes EXACTLY like cheesecake and not that fake cheesecake made with inferior “cheesecake” stuffing stuff you can buy pre made in the store but real cheesecake made at home from scratch or from a fine restaurant or bakery!

It is not overly sweet either which I was surprised at because I honestly was expecting something more fake tasting and overly sugary.

I was both surprised and pleased when I took my first sip and realized this was the real deal! I still am amazed that Red Leaf Tea can get such excellent flavor from all natural sources into a matcha!

This flavor melded perfectly with the green tea base giving it a beautiful slightly sweet and creamy earthy flavor! I imagine it would be insanely good in a white base as well!

Now I will admit this is not my all time favorite flavor from Red Leaf but with so many to choose from that is not shocking I mean everyone has their own personal flavor favorites and I am not the ultimate cheese cake fan, although lately I have been sipping a lot of cheesecake flavored teas and I do love a good slice of cheese cake now and then but there are other flavors for me personally I would prefer but again that is just a personal flavor favorite thing and has NO reflection on the amazingness of this matcha flavor!

You can almost taste the crumbly cheesecake crust in this as well as the taste of the filling so you do get that whole cheesecake experience.

My matcha was composed as the following:

Options:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)

The tin is 4.00 extra but well worth it as it has a nice screw on lid that keeps you from spilling your matcha and makes scooping much easier than out of the bag!

I have been perfectly happy with the starter grade of matcha but there are other grades you can purchase. I drink most of my matcha in lattes so the grade is not AS important to me but I have also very much loved the Royal grade as well. Also consider the many options of base matcha Red Lead offers because they have recently expanded the selection to include Black and Red as well as a 50/50 blend of green and white!

Between the amazing flavor offerings, the many ways to make your matcha personal to your taste and the supreme customer service and support Red Leaf Tea offers you can’t go wrong!

Now if you want to get yourself some of this cheesecake matcha and get it at a steal of a deal do so as soon as possible because deals like this only last so long!

Here it is again http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html

And if you are reading this after the amazing deal is over please know its still worth every penny of the full price and you should’t cheap out on yourself when selecting a matcha – you won’t be disappointed in Red Leaf matcha and I can’t say that for all matcha out there – only Red Leaf so far has put a smile on my face!

ahhhhhhhhHHHHHHH!!!

That could be all, basically.

I’m drinking it cold with milk and yes, yes indeed this is totally cheesecake matcha. With some kind of sweetener, it’d be even closer but I wanted to try it just like this at first. Rich, tangy, awesome.

Oh man oh man oh man if you haven’t ordered this yet, you need to. I’m going to have another cup like this later!

I just gave my mom some of this mixed with milk, and she’s like, did you come up with this yourself? Hahaha. I will probably make it again for her with a bit more matcha in it since this was the first time she’s ever had it. Cold with milk is seriously the best way to drink this ever.

I also just remembered when writing my review for my blog that the Momofuku Milk Bar cookbook has a recipe for liquid cheesecake and when I finally get around to making it (it’s basically undercooked cheesecake filling) I am adding this matcha in!

Except at the same time I wonder if this should be saved for drinking like this, and just unflavored matcha should go into cheesecake. It’s not like a recipe for a full cheesecake so I may have to try it despite this feeling.

Four words: mango berry cheesecake smoothie.

The end.

No really if you haven’t used this one to make a smoothie yet, follow softrevolution’s lead ASAP.

The only way this could be even better is if white chocolate matcha was out already.

I’m having another. One thing, I am having major clumping problems so I’d definitely sift this first if you have the means. I’m not sure if it’s the matcha or me since right now I am not with my whisk. Not that it makes this any less delicious but just something I’m noticing.

I want to make ice cream with this, if only my freezer wasn’t full of peach jam.

It’s been so long since I’ve had matcha. I feel silly.

Now of course this has probably aged, though I’ve been keeping it all in the fridge. But I think the problem more is that I have forgotten the parameters I liked. So really I think I made this too light, because it smells like cheesecake in the tin, and this sure tastes like matcha.

I also realized I don’t have milk of some sort so I probably went too heavy on the coconut milk creamer. Oh well. It’s the matcha part that counts right? I don’t want this stupid flu that so many people have.

I need to get back into the reviewing for more matcha thing, I am in desperate need for some of the other flavors but first I should finish off what I have :)

Okay this is my first review of the awesome cheesecake matcha. So first things first you can buy it at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html
and I highly recommend that you do. So now for the actual review. I tried this the modern way of putting a teaspoon in a cup adding hot water and then using my black & decker mechanical frother to get it all nice and foamy. At first sip it didn’t taste that well when it was hot but once it cooled down a little it was great! I don’t eat much cheesecake because it is soo hard for people to get it right but Red Leaf Tea really knows what they’re doing. It is evident in the smell of the matcha powder (which will torture you as you wait for the water to boil) I next tried this tea with milk. I put hot water to about half a cup frothed it and then added milk and frothed it again. It was even better! I did not think it was possible. I also wish to note that the buying was simple and yes they do ship to Canada (YAAAAY).
I got the starter grade Matcha with robust flavouring and only the small 32grams (which I now deeply regret and plan to order more the moment I have more cash!) I also purchased the tin as the bags are not resealable and the tins take up a lot less room than other teas I’ve bought. I bought 3 Matchas from Red Leaf Tea and they all easily fit in my mailbox, it takes awhile for an order to come to Canada but this is true of all U.S.P.S. shipped things so don’t worry it will come! Free shipping comes if you order over $75 (super easy to get that amount so you’ll almost always have free shipping) Honestly I may be new to tea and Matcha specifically but I know what I like and this I absolutely love.

Drinking this while I work. I’m drinking it straight because I’m at school and don’t have all the fun stuff like milk or marshmallows… (sob) on the plus side it tastes great and I got a message from C.R. to try the new Netflix for Tea site and put in my sample order there. So I’ll have lots of fun trying new stuff :D

Having this one again and it is yummy but others have stolen my affections (mostly maple syrup matcha) :D

yep this can’t hold a candle to the maple but it’s still good :D (had it yesterday)

Full disclosure: I won this as a prize from Red Leaf Tea for helping to rename their Sugar Destroyer tea so I am not sure what the flavour strength is on this one. Thanks RLT! I would guess it’s not very strong as I didn’t get much aroma from the bag. There was some definite sweetness, but it smelled sort of generic, much like I found the cookie and cream matcha to smell. Actually, they both sort of smelled like the caramel matcha. For a non-green tea drinker, I think I need really high levels of flavouring in my matcha to make it palatable. Otherwise, what’s the point in flavour, eh? : )

The taste is..something else altogether. It is sweet. Not sugar sweet, but naturally sweet, rather than an addition. Sort of like how fruit is sweet but candy is cloying? Anyway, it’s yummy. Smooth with a sense of richness. I wouldn’t call it cheesecake if I hadn’t seen that on the label but it IS nice. Once again, a stronger flavour level would probably help distinguish the taste for me but that’s a personal weakness. I do get a bit of bitterness that lingers on the tongue – I’m not loving that. I think I will add a hint of honey to nix that.

Okay, honey may have turned into grapefruit agave. So sure me, it’s delicious. With the sweetener, the bitterness is muted and barely noticeable, which I prefer. I think this mixed with the caramel matcha would be super delicious – though it’s good on it’s own, it needs a little something to take it up a notch for me. It would be super yummy as an additive to a smoothie or cookies or something like that.

Had this again today and the cheesecake flavour was completely absent. I was hoping that waiting a few weeks would allow the flavours to meld a bit better (like with other flavoured teas) but it doesn’t seem to have helped. There was something present in the matcha in terms of flavour, but it was mostly a light sweetness and not any identifiable flavours. Kind of a bummer.

So I received my redirected matchas yesterday, woo! As I’m heading into the lab, a shot of energy seems appropriate, so time to try the much-loved cheesecake matcha. I ordered the robust strength with the regular base, as that seems to be the preferred combination here. http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html

When I first tore into the packet, I have to say that I was surprised/shocked to smell not cheesecake, but strawberry. A similar thing happened to me with the Madagascar Vanilla, where I smelled not vanilla, but strawberry. A bit disappointing, as I was expecting a strong tangy cheesecakey aroma. Upon further sniffs, I detected a bit of a milkyish, possibly cheesecakey flavour, but given that this is “robust”, I really expected more.

As usual, I decided to make this into an almond milk latte. I used 2 heaping teaspoons of matcha whisked into hot milk, then mixed with cold almond milk. To my surprise, the latte tasted like nothing but a generic matcha latte. Not even a hint of cheesecake. So I added another generous tsp or two to a new small bowl of hot milk, whisked, and added it. Same deal. And keep in mind… I think I’ve used about half of my 30g packet by now. This is one EXPENSIVE latte… I added some maple syrup as sweetener (no other options), and now I have quite a tasty drink… but definitely not what I was expecting. I can almost smell cheesecake if I sniff quite hard, and a sip of the latte leaves a bit of a cheesecake aftertaste, but this is unfortunately not what I had hoped it would be. Perhaps the cheesecake blends in too well with the almond milk? I wouldn’t have expected that, given how well my delicately flavoured Caramel matcha worked with it (and also, I tried a taste of the plain milk + matcha and couldn’t taste cheesecake either). I would love to blame this on my tastebuds or something, but I have a series of other teas with me that I can definitely smell and taste quite fine, so that’s not the problem.

Oh well. I do love the caramel matcha, so perhaps will simply stock up on that one instead!

ETA: It just occurred to me that I may have made a fatal error by drinking almost my entire latte on an empty stomach… uh oh…

Oh sweet heavenly goodness! This matcha makes me laugh. I bet I sound like a crazy person now so I will explain why it makes me laugh. When I was told I had a gluten allergie it sucked big time, alot of food has gluten in it. So for my birthday all I wanted was a gluten free cheesecake. So me and my friends went on this huge adventure around town to find a gluten free cheesecake for me. So we found this little bakery online that sold glutenfree cheesecake I was so excited and happy. So we went to find this place, we got lost 3 times bused all around town, walked in circles for i don’t know how long, then it started to rain. We almost gave up but we finally found it in this little hidden strip mall. So we all ran into the store and there it was, so we asked for one which they had in the back and got it all packed up ( everything gluten free seems to cost so! much more!) and started back to my house. Well as soon as we got home we took it out of the box. And jeeze! glutenfree my butt! all they did was scrape off the crust! So when I think about anything cheesecake that is the first thing I think of.

Now enough babbling, so what I got was Size: Small (30 grams), Quality: Basic Grade, Flavor: Delicate. One of these days I’m gonna have to try different flavor strengths and compare. So I made this into a iced latte because cheesecake is usually cold so I wanted my matcha to remind me of a real cheesecake. I first tried it without sweetener then with it. I have to say when i added the sweetener I found it gave it more of a real cheesecake sweetness. But it has a sweetness on its own, but im a lover of everything really sweet so it depends on your preference. And its not a fake store bought taste, its a made at home with love cheesecake taste. Got it here http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html

I also made it into a smoothie. I made my matcha the normal traditional way, then added half a cup of milk, a bunch of frozen raspberry my matcha, and blended it all up. And OMG raspberry cheesecake anyone amazing! The sweetness of the raspberry and the cheesecake is perfect, my drink didnt even last 5 minutes. But now im sad cause its gone.

Its rich and sweet and delicious. What more can you ask for! I have to say thank you to Red Leaf Tea for making these amazing flavors, being allergic to everything really sucks and having all these lovely flavors of things that don’t make me sick means alot, so thank you! Im sure everyone who drinks there tea is thankful, but to me its something special.

I started doing a cleansing diet, so no tea for me except green tea. So I mad this into a smoothies yesterday with frozen peaches and strawberry’s. GAH! its was amazing!!! I usually make my matcha with milk but smoothies are the way to go! So delicious!

MY MATCHA IS HERE! MY MATCHA IS HERE!! My cats are staring at me doing a dance around the house like, “WTF IZ U DOIN’?”

I was sitting at my computer doing some training manual prep for work, and I heard the mailman drop something in the box. So I trudged upstairs to see what bills we have…I thought briefly of the cheesecake matcha I ordered from Red Leaf Teas eons ago at the end of August, but I dismissed the thought because I had basically given up on ever seeing it.

(I would like to note here that I do not blame Red Leaf at all for the lengthy shipping time. In my limited experience, the customer service at Red Leaf is great. I once emailed the company about Amaretto not being listed as a flavour on the 2-in-1 custom matcha page – I didn’t realize that it was a new flavour – and I had an email back about it being corrected within an hour. When I ordered this matcha, I got an email confirmation that it had shipped the same day I ordered it, and the USPS tracking number indicates that it was shipped to the border in speedy time indeed.

So, Canada Post, where exactly has my matcha been in the two weeks PLUS since it crossed the border, hmm? Were you guys checking it for BOMBS, or something?!)

But now it’s here! It’s even here on the day that my mom is taking me out for Indian for my birthday. Since it got here in time for the birthday celebration, let’s just count that as arriving in time for my birthday. And it’s in my favourite birthday cake flavour!

Here was my order:

Cheesecake Matcha (Which you can get yourself here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html)
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Size : Small
Flavor: Robust

The small because I already have a ton of tea and just wanted to try it, and robust because I am so new to matcha and a little intimidated by how strong the flavour of it is. (Translation: I tried it straight once and nearly spat it out.)

I also separately ordered a little tin, because I had heard that the bag the matcha arrives in is not reseal-able. This is true, but, also true to what other reviewers have said, it poured from the bag with little trouble!

The scent of this tea is strong – the moment I snipped the packet open, I got a good whiff of delicious sweetness. Although to be honest, I’m not sure it actually smells like cheesecake – my first thought is more along the lines of buttercream.

The color of the matcha is not like the matcha I’ve had before (which is brilliant green) – there’s more yellow to it. I wonder if that is because of the flavouring changing the color?

I debated how to try this the first time, because I’ve not had matcha before without plenty of sugar and milk to tone down the flavour, but that doesn’t seem like a fair way to review it. I settled on a scant teaspoon of rock sugar and a splash of milk for this. At some point I will review it straight up, but I’m not brave enough to do that yet.

I got the rock sugar dissolving while I sifted a teaspoon of this into my bowl. I was surprised at how well it sifted…the matcha I’ve used before seemed somehow sticky, almost as though it was a bit wet, and tended to coat my strainer. This stuff all went right through into the bowl.

With water added, this matcha turns an amazing and hilarious swampy green. Why has no one mentioned this in other reviews?! It’s really quite a color; pretty cool if it doesn’t freak you out.

The flavour of this is so interesting…it’s definitely matcha, but also definitely cheesecake. It’s very creamy throughout the sip; you don’t get a nasty surprise at the back. It’s sweet with just the tiniest hint of a cheesecake tang to it…it may well be tangier with less sugar in it, it may be entirely my fault for overwhelming the flavour that the tangy note doesn’t come through as strongly as the sweet notes. So that gives me another reason to try it straight. The description mentions the matcha having a spiciness to it, which is absolutely accurate…there is indeed a spice to it which really lingers pleasantly on the tongue.

This is so good and warming, and probably just the kick in the butt I needed today, because I’ve been kind of sleepy after a long week. I will definitely be ordering more stuff from Red Leaf! (Especially since I noticed they sell my favourite Finum filters. Teaopia used to sell them, but now that Teaopia is no more – near me, anyway – I’ve been at a loss as to where to get them.) I also have told my coworkers and the girls at DAVIDs about Red Leaf – my tea came with a little brochure about the tea, so I will have to show that around.

Did I mention I got my key and a promotion to team lead? Oh yes, I did!

So: Promotion. Birthday celebration today. AND MY MATCHA CAME.

Life is good.

Ohmagerd.

My new matchas came in the mail today, and I had to rip into this one right away. I don’t have time to write a full review right now, but I couldn’t contain my excitement about the delicious concoction I made with this, and had to share with you folks immediately.

Ready for it?

Strawberry. Banana. Cheesecake. Smoothie.

It was possibly the best smoothie I’ve ever made/had. Sweet and tangy and creamy with this deliciously smooth cheesecake flavour that was waaaay more true to life and delectable than I expected.

Voila: my smoothie mix

-Generous helping of vanilla yogurt
-3/4 tsp sifted cheesecake matcha
-Handful of frozen strawberries & bananas
-Good pour of pineapple orange banana juice

All whizzed up in my magic bullet! It tastes like fruity liquid cheesecake (if liquid cheesecake were delicious. I imagine it would actually be kinda gross.)

Cheesecaaake!! Oh boy. Cheesecake is my favourite dessert. There are so many different varieties, and I am in love with almost all of them. My mom used to make a no-bake version that was whippy and light, with a thick, crumbly, spiced graham layer, and topped with a good old fashioned can of pie filling. And of course nothing can beat a good slice of baked cheesecake. I remember one of my first baking projects I tried as a teenager was a cheesecake. It turned out amazing and I was hooked. The top cracked something terrible, but man was it goood.

I was surprised and thrilled that Red Leaf’s take on cheesecake tasted so much like a good quality slice of baked goodness. I have been wanting to try this flavour for quite a long time and I’m so glad I did! This is how I ordered my matcha:

Flavouring: Robust
Quality: 50/50 matcha

I am super happy with my choices. The robust flavouring is the perfect amount for me in this one, it’s nice and strong without being overpowering. I love cheesecake so much that I knew I would want it to be really, well, robust. And the 50/50 matcha base is really nice! It’s smooth and refreshing; really mellows out the green tea flavour. I ordered it in hopes of getting my girlfriend to try it (she’s not the biggest green tea fan, so I thought the 50/50 might be easier to convince her on) but no luck yet. I’ll make sure to get her to taste my smoothie next time I make one, because I’m pretty sure that would be impossible not to love!

Speaking of which, my favourite way to enjoy this matcha is in a smoothie. I have had this twice now in two days, it is pretty darn addictive! I make em with frozen fruit, yogurt, juice, and about a teaspoon of matcha for a single serving. The cheesecake flavour really shines, permeating the entire drink with its creamy goodness. The yogurt adds that cheesecake tang and the matcha flavour is subtle but delicious. I took a matcha smoothie to work with me this morning and it filled me up and gave me a nice bit of energy from the tea goodness. I think this will become my go-to breakfast.

Tonight I tried it as a hot matcha latte. The cheesecake flavour is a lot less prominent than in my smoothie, but it is still an amazing creamy treat this way. It is buttery, smooth, and a little toasty, in a way. I am finding I can never go wrong with a Red Leaf matcha latte.

Next, I hope to try an iced latte, because I think the cheesecake flavour pops best as a cold drink. Maybe I’ll try mixing in a bit of boysenberry or caramel matcha too! I love how versatile the different flavoured matchas are for blending. There are so many combos that I want to try, and steepster folks come up with some pretty inventive blends that look amazing.

This ones a winner. You can score yourself some cheesecake matcha from Red Leaf here:

I had a matcha marathon! This was one of the flavors in my latest order that I had never tried. (Two were refills of old loves!)

I like cheesecake but I don’t love it unless it is the kind I make myself. I don’t want it dry and dense, or heavy. I actually prefer the easy, super creamy kind that has a sour cream, sugar, and vanilla topping on it.

One of the main aromas that hit me when I opened the pouch was vanilla. That is great, because I love vanilla!

(By the way, I haven’t seen anyone address the best way to open these pouches to prevent the loss of any precious matcha powder. These pouches are vacuum sealed so tapping it lightly on the counter is not going to jiggle the powder down lower. If you start cutting or tearing the pouch from the side a little poof of your matcha might escape, or even more.

There is a little half circle notch on top of the pouch. Make a tiny cut right there with scissors, just big enough to allow air to enter the package. Now the matcha powder will obey the call of gravity and go to the bottom of the pouch so you can safely cut a larger opening and pour it into your container without losing any!)

So on to the tea! We made hot matcha lattes and they were excellent! I think this would be awesome for mixing with MOST other flavors, too, to lend its creamy vanilla goodness. I really want to try this as a cold latte tomorrow. Almond matcha is still my favorite of all (right now!) but this is running a close second, maybe tied with butterscotch!

You can buy it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html

I was going to sample the set of green bases from Red Leaf today but I got a text this morning from a friend who had ordered during the Red Leaf referral program. “Shall I come over and bring the ones you have never tried?” Why, of course I can make time for that!

This was the first, and my friend only knew how to make the hot lattes from watching me make them a couple of months ago, so we did some quick matcha training. I sifted a teaspoon of matcha into a tall glass and added a bit of water. I whooshed it with my aerolatte, added honey, and whooshed again. Then I added milk almost to the top and finished it off with crushed ice.

I have to say I think this is my favorite matcha for these lower fat/lower sugar iced lattes. Almond still probably holds top spot for the decadent ones I make that a basically a milkshake with matcha added! This does not taste exactly like the French vanilla flavor. I smell a touch of lemon when it is dry, and after mixing it is definitely more complex than the FV one.

We really enjoyed this, so on my next order it goes!

After reading everyone’s matcha reviews, I just couldn’t resist anymore. So I had to order my first matcha!! And what a way to start off…….cheesecake matcha. I LOVE cheesecake. So I ordered:

Cheesecake Matcha
Size : Small
Flavor: Distinctive
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)
I added this tin because I knew that I wouldn’t have anything to put it in at home. And from reading everyone else’s reviews prompted me to order this!

I actually received my package on Friday, and it has been torturing me in my tea box since then. I worked all weekend, and really didn’t get any chance to give this the proper time to try this. So I saved it to try today.

So matcha……no idea what I’m doing. I don’t have any matcha tools. So I just used a regular soup bowl and a metal whisk. I sifted ½ teaspoon into the bowl and added ¼ cup of 80degree water. And I whisked and whisked, and I thought it seemed alright so I added another ¼ cup of water. And whisked some more. It had some foam, so I tasted it. It was a little bit vegetal with some bitterness. So, I whisked it some more. It was pretty good with nice and creamy cheesecake flavour.

But then I had an idea, Magic Bullet! I threw this in there, and wow foam, now this is how it is supposed to taste! With about ¼ cup of milk, this is a creamy dessert.

But, I knew I wanted to make this into a smoothie. Here is what I used:
½ cup water
½ cup milk
large scoop of no fat greek yogurt
large handful of frozen strawberries
and of course 1 tsp CHEESECAKE MATCHA powder sifted
I blended this up in my magic bullet. WOW WOW! This is delicious cheesecake goodness! Did I mention that I love cheesecake…….lol. It is sweet enough that it does not need any extra sweetening. And since I have a smoothie every day that I am not working, this is such a great tea for me!

Next up for me is the Bavarian cream when that arrives hopefully sometime this week!

Thank you to Red Leaf Tea for making such an amazing incentive program for trying matcha. Honestly, I might not have ever tried matcha if it weren’t for this promotion. I hope to order more very soon! Here is where you can get his amazing tea:

I just did the most amazing thing and i will never make matcha any other way again. Oh yeah. I’m feeling pretty smart right now.

I have some friends coming over in a bit to watch the final four games and need a little caffeine boost before all the beer starts being guzzled so I thought I’d make an iced matcha. I’ve already got my kitchen all cleaned up so I didn’t want to make much of a mess. I was back in my little tea nook and saw my breville milk cafe that I use to froth milk and remembered that it’s also a hot chocolate maker. That got my brain thinking. What if I just throw water and a splash of milk in the thing and then throw my matcha right in there.

Holy S&%t it’s so creamy and delicious. Perfectly mixed and frothy and creamy. I was going to pour it over ice but no way. This is delicious as is! And all I have to do is rinse the frothing mug and it’s ready for another use. I need to do a review of just the frother. I love that thing.

oh yeah, the cheesecake flavor is good too. That’s probably worth mentioning!

Hello, heaven!
Red Leaf ships seriously fast! I ordered this on Black Friday and they shipped the next day. Considering I’m in Canada this is crazy fast! I obviously had to make a cup. i jumped the gun though. I assumed it needed agave and milk and I obliterated the flavour.
I ordered royal grade with “there’s matcha in there?” flavour level. I taste no cheesecake. Will try it again soon.

I’m just going to say that I could not imagine the difference sifting matcha makes. It actually tastes like cheesecake, not just sweet matcha. This is a wonderful revelation. lol

The last cup in my stash. :( I miss you already.

Coming to work with me!

This was my impulsive black Friday purchase. I couldn’t turn it down, it was an incredible deal and it was the perfect opportunity to delve right in.
I went with the royal grade matcha with “There’s matcha in there?” flavour level.
I purchased a matcha kit just for this. I boiled the water and THEN, only then did I bother reading that you shouldn’t use boiling water. . . Then came the task of waiting for the water to cool. Finally we got there. I added 1 tsp of matcha powder to my bowl and 6oz. of water. Then I got to use my super cool bamboo whisk! It frothed up pretty quick and I added some milk I steamed in the microwave.
I had no idea what to expect for flavour, all the reviews are so different, some say it’s bitter, some say smooth. I expected it to be tangy, that normal tang that cheesecake has. It didn’t have it, it was perfectly rich and smooth and tasted real. The matcha buzz lasted me well into the work day, which I was VERY grateful for. I look forward to all my future red leaf purchases and I plan to make this one a staple in my tea collection.
I should add that the shipping was insane! I ordered Friday, they shipped FRIDAY and I received it the following Thursday and I’m in Canada! I think I’ll get the tin next time!
Buy it here! http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html
I hope I did this right! lol

Mmmm, this smelled like cheesecake as soon as I opened the package. This is the first matcha I ever bought to prepare at home – I’ve had it in lattes and ice cream, but that’s all – so I’m kind of excited.

I used 1 chashaku scoop to about 4oz water. My scoop seemed pretty big? Next time I’ll just measure by weight to see how much 1 gram is on the chashaku. I added water a little at a time, starting with the matcha as a paste to get rid of any lumps since I wasn’t using a strainer – this worked quite well! I had a nice froth going for awhile too, but then I added more water and it never really came back, so I might have had my proportions off.

My first impression on sipping was “oof, bitter” frankly, but then… the bitterness never really materialized? It’s more like it tastes like it ought to be bitter, but it’s only a flavor not actually the mouth-scrunching sensation. (Keep in mind, I’ve never had matcha straight before – I have no idea how normal this is). And then the aftertaste is pure cheesecake.

And now I’ve finished the whole bowl. That didn’t take long! And I kind of want more, so I think this stuff must be growing on me. My stomach is not as happy as my mouth though, so matcha may not become a regular first-thing-in-the-morning ritual for me.

I was still excited about the new tea though, so I decided to make some cold to take to work with me. This was a fantastic decision. I used the method described here (http://blog.mellowmonk.com/2010/07/cold-brewing-matcha-in-bottle.html), and accordingly used much less matcha than I would have tried without instruction – about 1/2 teaspoon to 16oz cold water. It worked out perfectly though – cold, mild, and refreshing, yet sweet and rich from the cheesecake flavor. The cheesecake flavor itself is pretty good, too. Cream, sugar, a slight tang from the cheese, a hint of graham cracker crust are all distinguishable. At this rate, I should get 15-30 servings out of the 30g packet, which is more than I would have guessed – a little bit of tasty cheesecake matcha goes a long way!

I think I liked this better cold than hot, and it was easier to prepare and drink through the day. I suspect it will do very well blended with other things, like milk, or ice cream. Maybe even my herbal coffee substitute? Clearly I’m not cut out to be a traditionalist with my matcha, but with flavors like cheesecake, cotton candy, and English toffee to try, who cares?!

You can buy this from Red Leaf Tea at: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html

I got the small packet, starter quality green matcha (I do want to try the higher grades now), and distinctive flavoring (will definitely play with this).

My second Red Leaf order is finally here! I swear, the post office at my apartment is cursed or something. My first order, which went to my house, only took 3 days to get to me! This one? Well, it shipped on Saturday and I got it today. Even with the post office holiday, that seems like a LOT longer when I am only 60 miles from my house. Ugh, I was worried I wouldn’t get it in time for the Bavarian Cream sale! But, here it is, and of course I started diving in about 5 minutes after my order came.

My matcha is as follows:
Size: 30g (small)
Flavoring: Distinctive
Base: Basic

I went for a bit more flavoring than in my caramel matcha, since I wanted a little bit more oomph but didn’t want to overwhelm the matcha. It seems like most people go with Robust, which I was tempted to do but I REALLY like the taste of matcha. Maybe robust next time, but for now I want to go up in flavor slowly.

Of course I was tempted to start off with a mix of caramel and cheesecake, but I need to try this one on its own first! The smell coming out of the bag is sooo good, it’s got that creamy aspect but also tang! I feel like a lot of cheesecake teas miss out on the tangy aspect, so it’s nice to see it up front and present from the beginning here. I sifted it into the mug (a little bit more than usual, because I am feeling really tired and need to wake up!) and added 2 ounces of hot water—around 185, though I think you can use boiling? I’m not entirely sure, but I’ve been playing it safe since I’d hate to ruin some of this godly stuff. I have been thinking about getting a real matcha whisk—so far I’ve used my little baking one and it’s worked fine, but there’s only a little bit of froth. I added a little sugar too. Hey, it’s cheesecake! It needs to be sweet!

I tried it “straight” (well, as straight as it gets with sugar added haha) and it was sooo good, but really strong. I definitely prefer lattes, so I poured in some ice cold milk and whisked a little more. I feel like that fish in Finding Nemo. “Bubbles, the bubbles!” I’m so enchanted by the whole process! Once completed, I think I gulped this down in roughly 30 seconds. I try to savor, but it’s too tasty!

The cheesecake taste is spot on. Creamy, sweet and delicious! And of course, that wonderful tang is present, which really is what makes it cheesecake for me. I swear, I can taste a little bit of the buttery crust as well! Of course it doesn’t overwhelm the matcha, which I think keeps this from being overly dessert-y. Don’t get me wrong, I love dessert teas, but given the caffeine content in matcha I tend to drink it in the afternoon or early evening and I don’t really like dessert teas unless it’s right before bed. So this is perfect! It’s like a slice of cheesecake in a cup without the calories or guilty feelings, plus it gives a nice energy boost. I am SO in love with Red Leaf’s matcha, it’s perfection. I got 2 more flavors in my order and I am sure I will try them both before the day is up!

This one confuses me. It does not taste like cheesecake! more like milky cheesey candies? of a thick creamy nature.
The aroma puts me off a little, especially when made hot. Definitely not for me when made that way. Shaken bottle method it isn’t so bad. Better, but not by much.
The scent is somewhat stinky, like aged cheese, so I really don’t wanna know what it tastes like with milk. I added some the first time I made this so that could be why I found it so horrid.
BUT all is not lost. I’ve discovered that it mixes really well with strawberry, and I am guessing it will do the same with Peppermint.
In fact, with my strawberry, the tartness seems to be enhanced, yet the creaminess is deeper than with plain strawberry as well. I’m impressed, to be honest. It’s raised my opinion of this one significantly.
In fact, I may repurchase this with a better base. That could be what is throwing me off as I find that I enjoy the Royal base much more.
It should also be noted that I’m very particular about my cheesecake. My Aunt makes this “diet” cheesecake because it uses cottage cheese or ricotta, I can’t recall which, and I just love it.
The thicker, dense creamy type, well I somehow never got around to liking it. Something about the texture and intensity just bugs me. Anyhow…
This one has the Basic base, Robust flavour level, and it was a size small. If you want to order some up, get it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html
As for my rating, it goes like this:
made hot with a dash of milk… 60
made shaken bottle method with a dash of agave… 73
made hot with strawberry and a dash of agave… 85

Bananas are bullies. Yep. I’ve added this to my smoothies before, but today was the first time where I removed the banana entirely. Today, it was just almond milk and pear. And oh boy did it ever make for a creamy cheesy delight! Kindof stale tasting, but only on the occasional sip, and that could be the almond milk.
A spoonful of sugar seriously punches it up.
I’m not sure if this one is worth re-ordering, but my experience today certainly has me questioning that!

bleh. I forgot that this didn’t do so well with a dash of milk and tried it as a cold latte, in my blender with some ice.
It was purty nasty, so I added some strawberry and now it’s drinkable. Should have added real strawberries as well…
Funny thing is, I’m almost out of this one, and will probably end up buying more to have as a hot latte mixed with other flavours… and of course in my smoothies. I looooove the cheesecakiness in my liquid fruit. Mmmmm.

Oh.My.God. Cheesecake Matcha..heaven in green powder form. So let me preface this review by saying that cheesecake is NOT my ultimate favourite dessert. It’s actually pretty hit and miss for me as sometimes it’s divine and other times it’s like eating custard. shudder I chose to give redleaf’s cheesecake matcha a try though, in part because the caramel matcha was so incredible but also because I thought I might have fun making cheesecake combinations as I order other flavours.
Once again, at first cut, it was an outpouring of gorgeous Cheesecake l smell! I was immediately hopeful that because of the creamy smell, it would prove to be a cheesecake flavour that I enjoyed. I shouldn’t have doubted Red Leaf. I love that I can fit all of my matcha into the little tins from Red Leaf – it’s great having uniform containers to house all my matcha!
I’m still not confident in my ability to prepare and enjoy straight matcha so I opted for a cheesecake matcha latte. I must have gotten better at preparing matcha because this time i was able to get a nice froth going in my bowl even though I’m likely using a whisk and bowl that are too big for this!
I added the warm milk to the matcha and was instantly pleased with the creamy cheesecakey smell that rose from the mug. I didn’t add any sweetener or other additions – just some warm milk and matcha. I wish i could capture how amazing this latte was. I pretty much started drinking it and before I knew it, I was holding an empty mug and frowning. What I love about the cheesecake flavour is that even though I opted for the robust flavouring, it’s not an in your face taste. I still get the matcha taste behind the cheesecake, but it’s blended so nicely. I’d be willing to try this on a delicate flavour as well some time…but then there’s also that whole red, black and white matcha! Soooo many choices!
Thank you Red Leaf tea for making such a wonderful Cheesecake flavoured matcha! I’m really looking forward to trying out many more of your flavors, and better yet, combining them for more tasting adventures! I’m fairly certain that once i review the Pear Matcha that I also picked up from Red Leaf, I’ll be making a caramel cheesecake latte to enjoy!

My matcha was composed of the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage : Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)
I also recommend that you get the container – the lid screws on and off which keeps your powder safe from spillage as well as fresh.

Buy it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html

Mmmm morning latte again because of the horrible weather. I seriously have zero desire to go to work today especially since its been late work nights the past couple. While this is pretty tasty, I for sure need to either bust out the hand blender when I make these or finally go get a matcha whisk and start trying that. My whisking skills are just not quite up to the task. Still, it wasn’t a terrible attempt and its nice to have something creamy and warm in the morning. :)

Nothing gets you out of bed and in to work stupidly early like your other half snoring in the bed :) Thankfully though, my upton order arrived yesterday which means more finums!!! They were on stupidly cheap so i picked up 3 more so that i have one for the office now as well as 3 for at home if guests want tea – including one of the large ones for the GIANT mugs we have in the house that are so big the medium ones don’t fit. What does all that babbling mean? I can get both my travel mugs ready at the same time! time saver! :)

But i digress…todays smoothie is cheesecake, though you know how when you let bananas get REALLY ripe they taste like POW BANANA! yeah…my frozen bananas today were like that, which means regardless of the matcha flavour, all i will likely taste is banana…so i improvised. in addition to the banana i tossed in some frozen mangos and peaches and this smoothie is divine! Not only did both fruits blend amazingly well with the banana but the cheesecake flavour gives this a really nice creamy cheesecakey base. i’m in love! :)

Today’s morning is brought to you by banana, raspberry cheesecake with a spash of caramel! The focus here was cheesecake matcha but I love adding frozen fruit to my smoothies in the morning. Servings of fruit and milk to kick off the morning with yummy cheesecake goodness! I’m getting SUPER excited for my vacation after seeing pictures of the characters on the cruise – this might be the first time i actually get pictures with characters….i’m such a big kid. :)

Backlog and sipdown from the weekend. Had this over the weekend to remind myself of why i love this straight as well as in addition to other flavours in my morning smoothie. I’ve got a few packages in my cupboard, so this might be a technical sipdown but i for sure need to got through and see where i’m at so that i can place another order :)

Go go gadget matcha smoothie! Nothing quite so wonderful as coming home from the gym, finishing up my “ride home tea” and walking in the door to a sammiches made by my other half! Needed something to wash it down so I put together a quick cheesecake banana smoothie. Sooooo delicious! This might be even better than the caramel….maybe.

my other half watched me make my smoothie this morning. I believe his words were something along the lines of “man are you going to be hopped up this morning” after watching me keep adding matcha to the blend. I struggled with this a bit today and it’s not nearly as delicious and wonderful as it usually is but i think i’ll blame that on the banana – it wasn’t quite ripe enough.

Sadly, as caffeine doesn’t really affect me..i’m still pretty out of it this morning. However! Great news! My boss is finally back from his trip so maybe our team will get settled so that I can stop drowning.

mmmmmm wonderful smoothie this morning. Straight up milk and cheesecake matcha with ice. nom nom nom nom yes please!

blah blah blah steepster ate my note, so far this tastes funny but that’s all kittenna and indigoblooms fault cause they probably made me sick over the internet more teas to check this morning to see if they taste odd as well.

mmmmmorning! cheesecake matacha smoothie! Yeah…i love waking up to matcha smoothies, especially ones that are this tasty. I’m pretty sure this one is my favourite so far, beating out even caramel because of it’s creamy delicious goodness. It also looks like there are AT LEAST nine more flavours i really want to try from redleaf…

aw yeah! Another banana, cheesecake, peach, blueberry smoothie for the morning! I have not yet started back at the gym but i’m thinking i still have time this week to get 3 workouts in…tonight, fri and then sat :) Here’s hoping i don’t fail that!

Not sure where i was going with that, but i’m sure it has something to do with starting my morning off with a delicious, delicious smoothie. I really need to place another red leaf order soon but i’m trying to hold out as long as possible for fear that I’ll end up placing a giant order and have a ton of matcha again. My goal for matcha is still to try and get it down to 5-7 flavours i’ve tried so that I can pick up a new one here and there. Cheesecake and caramel are still pretty amazing in my opinion so those will like remain staples in my cupboard :)

Another matcha smoothie this morning, this time with a dash of pear matcha as well. All i can say is that i’m starting to scrape the bottom of my cheesecake tin and that makes me sad. I really need to place another order sooner rather than later. heh

Oh yeah… that’s right. What’s better than cheesecake or caramel matcha? CHEESECAKE CARAMEL MATCHA! Hells yes! After yesterday’s fiasco i needed a double dose of goodness this morning to kick start my day. Since i couldn’t decide which one i wanted, i tossed both into my smoothie this morning. Best. decision. ever.

So apparently I was busy enough today that I didn’t get a chance to log this. Today’s fruity blend? MANGO cheesecake smoothie! Frozen banana, dash of cinnamon as inspired by devy, and a bunch of frozen mango chunks. Blend and enjoy delicious goodness! I’m lucky i had 3 mins to make this in the morning before leaving for work since i haven’t had a minute to eat. At least I started my day right :) I am 100% going to need to order more of this from Red Leaf soon. I love the creamy goodness it adds to both lattes and smoothies.

I’ve heard great, great things about this matcha and I couldn’t wait to try it. But real life stepped in and I didn’t have the time to give it the attention it deserved, so, well, I had to wait to try. But I wait no more! Today I got to mix up my first frothy cup of cheesecake matcha goodness. I was stuck at the location I hate at work, so I desperately needed a thermos of matcha comfort and boy oh boy was I not let down! This is amazing stuff. Creamy and just that touch of tang found in a good cheesecake….yum. One of my specialities around this time of year is a pumpkin cheesecake….nom. I can’t wait to mix this (found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html) with a touch of Pumpkin Pie matcha and see how they go together.

Oh cheesecake, I have missed you desperately. Cream cheese is one of those things I absolutely cannot have or I’ll be ill for days, so cheesecake is, unfortunately permanently off my menu. But with a little beauty like this in my tea cupboard, I find I don’t mind nearly as much! I want to try mixing this with all of the flavors in the Red Leaf Tea catalogue, and I’m sure every one of them would be delicious!

Will Work For Tea
95

I’ve had my eye on Red Leaf Tea’s Cheesecake Matcha for some time now. Amanda was generous enough to send me a sample of her’s – which I immediately fell in love with. I believe her’s was “delicately” flavored. There was a nice tang to the matcha which was consumed – in record time – as an icy latte.

When I got around to finally placing my order for this, a month later (gasp!), I had a very difficult time trying to figure out which matcha base to go with. I knew I already liked the regular ol’ starter matcha, but would I branch out and try the white or red base? I probably placed each version in my cart at least 3 times before the basic grade finally became my choice. Seriously, it was a really hard choice to make!

So as a frame of reference my order was comprised like this: small, starter matcha with robust flavoring (found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cheesecake-matcha.html ) and a small metal tin, which I’ve come to really like! The tin is a nice size for a small matcha and doesn’t hog my precious refrigerator space. When I find myself in between matchas, I like that I can reuse the tins to take small samplings of loose leaf tea when I travel. I’m a sucker for small, reusable items!

Anyway, the smell of the matcha is tangy and slightly sweet, even though there’s no sugar added to the flavoring. I prepared this my usual way – cold latte style. Two ounces of warmed water with a teaspoon of matcha and a half teaspoon of super-fine sugar – wisk until blended. I didn’t try sifting the matcha this time, and it frothed up very nicely without any clumping. Six ounces of cold, creamy whole milk (yes, I’m naughty!) and the taste was so smooth and creamy with a bit of tang – just how I like my cheesecake to be!

After my first cup as a cold latte, I went for a second cup – this time as a warmed, straight matcha. The tang and creaminess are much less noticable the second time around, but the matcha base is much more prevalent. As the cup cools, the tangy taste comes to the forefront with the matcha and the creaminess lags behind. It’s kind of like having two very different teas, which is pretty awesome for just buying the one! A creamy, dessert-like cup of tangy cheesecake with milk/dairy alternative or a green tea with a little tang – it’s up to whatever kind of mood you’re in!
