This was on my shopping list for the better part of a year and finally today I managed to get my hands on some, I feel like Gollum when he had the ring my precioussss! I’m even crouched over the matcha hiding it from the world and examining it’s beauty. Cookies & Cream… there cannot be a better tea flavour out there for me. Well watermelon is a close second.

It’s scent is strong and sweet, it reminds me of some caramel biscuits I had in America last year but cannot recall the name. Oreo is pictured with them which is my favourite cookie/biscuit but the scent is not quite the same, lacks the chocolate to be Oreo. It does smell cookie like though and sweet.

First brewing method will be something deserved…a Cookies & Cream latte me thinks. I don’t have matcha that often but have been craving it lately, had some that tasted like fish and put me off for a while.

Once brewed this has a much more real cookie aroma, baked and warming like fresh cookies and so sweet and delicious.

sip …. HOLY MOLY! I must have died and gone to heaven checks pulse. The milk has brought out the real creaminess and left a sweet pure cookie essence. If I close my eyes and sip it’s like having a very thin Oreo milkshake that has been warmed slightly. Unbelievably good. So worth the wait.

I cannot taste any matcha/green tea at all, no bitterness or anything tea like can be detected. I’m going to trick my husband with it later…say it’s a new milkshake for him to try and see if he can tell there is tea in there. Muhahahahaha!

Overall – It’s mine and you can’t have any! :p

I sucked this down so fast its hard to even do a review on it because it is SOOOOOOO GOOD! You can get some here:

http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html

The smell of this one was absolutely spot on for Cookies and Cream.

There is a chocolate note that is so perfect and the creamy notes of cloyingly sweet cookie filling! And OH YES cloyingly sweet is GOOD in this case!

Obviously this is a dessert matcha! But if you are like me and don’t mind having your dessert for breakfast then its A okay!

Granted we still have this beautiful matcha base for our health kick and no guilt right!?

I am one happy camper slugging down my cookies and cream for breakfast!

My matcha from Red Leaf Tea is as follows:

Options:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust
Storage: Add Small Metal Tin Container (Holds up to 45g)
As I always mention because you never know when a new steepster may be reading – remember to grab up one of the screw top tins when you place your order! Excellent tins – air tight and keep you from making a matcha mess when you scoop!
This is the first matcha that I got the larger 60 gram size of! I normally buy the small in 30 gram but when I saw this available on sale nonetheless I grabbed up a large! I have NO regrets!

I would have got the large tin but I wanted my growing matcha collection to be uniform so I put the overflow in another container I had and put it away for safe keeping. I am sure once I suck down all of this in light speed I will be glad I hid a little from myself!
When I was at the store the other day I grabbed some Sweet Cream creamer to use in my latte blends instead of the vanilla. Today I mixed up a latte with the sweet cream which complimented this matcha perfectly! I only use a dash though to give my latte a thicker consistency as I don’t want the creamer to overshadow or cover the true matcha flavor. It was divine! I don’t know how I will keep myself from making a second cup! I am sitting here sucking on the ice cubes that still have some matcha clinging to it and I just want to dive in and be one with the remaining goodness!
I love the grassy vegetal creamy flavor of matcha and I realize purists would cringe at all the flavors being added but life is too short not to enjoy everything Red Leaf has to offer! I have yet to try a straight matcha from Red Leaf and that is in the plans for the near future but for now I am going to keep indulging in all the flavors I have yet to try and the new ones that are being slowly (painfully) released! I want them all NOW!
Remember you can get some of this right here:

OK… so I hadn’t planned on reviewing a new Matcha today, but times they are a changin’ … so I decided to get busy and review at least one Matcha today.

Mmm! I really wasn’t too sure about this Matcha. I’m not a big cookies n cream person. I LOVE oreo cookies, but I don’t so much like them ground up in vanilla ice cream or processed into white chocolate candy bars. I’d rather eat the ice cream and oreos separately. But, because this was a new flavor, and because it was on sale, I thought, I’ll try it. It might be good.

And it is. Sweet and yummy… it’s a bit like dunking oreo cookies in a bowl of Matcha, except that I’m drinking the cookie. I love that I can taste the “cookie” – not just chocolate, but I can taste the bake-y, cake-y cookie … all that’s missing is the crunch of the oreo.

YUM! Even if you missed out on the sale for this one, you should still try it – it’s totally worth it!

I’m not rating this as it would lie around 60 somewhere.
Hot. Bottle shaken. I just don’t like the flavour. It’s chemical-ish and there is very little “cookie”, though I do see where one would get that. Makes me sad. I must be defective lol
Anyhow, big thanks to Azzrian for the sample.

So I made this up as a latte today. Maybe the flavour settled better, or perhaps it’s just better with milk but I quite enjoyed it, reminds me of chocolate chip cookie (without the chips) dipped in milk. Well, except for the fact that the milk nearly drowns out any cookie flavour. I guess I could try it with less dairy but then it wouldn’t really be a latte! heh
Ah well, plenty of time to experiment. Thanks again Azzrian!!!

So Red Leaf Tea posted that they were coming out with a whole bunch of new flavors. So everyone got to vote for which new matcha flavor would be first to come out and go on sale. The winner was Cookies and Cream. So when I saw this i was so excited and just had to pick some up to try for myself. How can anyone say no to cookies and cream. So this is the second matcha ive ever tried.

Now a little information before i review this. About 2 years ago I found out that I have a gluten allergie, so I cant eat cookies at all. So when I saw this flavor, I knew I needed it. I miss cookies so much! And gluten free cookies dont even begin to compare to regular cookies. I love when I see things like this, cause I can feel like I’m cheating on the no gluten diet and not get sick :)

So what I ordered was… Size: Small (30 grams), Quality: Basic Grade, Flavor: Delicate. This is where you can get it http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html . So this time I thoguht I’d try it as a iced latte first ( thanks to Azzrian for giving me her recipe, I tweeked it about but mostly its her recipe). So what I did was took 1 tsp of my cookies and cream matcha and put it through my sifter. Added 2 oz of hot water and started whisking away until its all was blended. Added ice to my glass, then mixed about half a cup of milk into my bowl with the matcha. After everything was mixed together I poured it into my glass with the ice. Mixed once more a viola! Iced Cookies and Cream latte. Its tastes as great as it sounds. I found it a little bit bitter so I added half a packet of splenda to see if that would help and yum! Yup defitly not as bitter now. I wouldnt say it taste exactly like cookies , but hey cookies dont have matcha in it, so for a matcha flavor definitly a great flavor! Its got a nice sweet creamy flavor. I find with this one I dont taste the matcha as strongly as I do in the caramel matcha, but im not complaining at all both are amazingly delicious. But I think I prefer this one over the caramel one.

For all you gluten allergie or sensitivite people, this didnt make me sick at all. On the ingredients list it just says cookies and cream flavor, so I wasnt to sure if any of the ingredients would have gluten in it. But so far so good.

Just made a hot latte out of this. Gosh its so good! I think I like this better hot. The sweetness really comes out more I find when its hot.

This is another matcha that Azzrian sent me and man, this one is good. This is about as close as flavoring can get to tasting like real cookies and cream. While it’s good on its own, my favorite way to enjoy this particular flavor has been adding it to my daily vanilla Spirutein shake. It makes the shake taste AMAZING and helps give me a great boost in the morning.

I don’t know what is wrong with me or my taste buds, but I did not get any cookies or cream out of this, either in taste or aroma! I prepared 1/2 teaspoon, sifted and whisked – then got sweetened matcha, but no flavour! I ordered the distinctive flavouring, and am wondering if I should have taken it up a notch. I will be trying it again another time, in case something was off in this experience, but I am a little disappointed. The aroma wasn’t even cookies and cream – it was almost more burnt sugar/creme brulee. I’m not a fan of milk at all, and don’t particularly enjoy it in matcha, but I might try that at some point to see if it brings out the creaminess. Hoping for better matcha luck with the cheesecake and strawberry flavours.

*Will rate another time after I re-try.

So I can’t remember who it was that ordered this in a black base, and having tried the usual green base, I’m sooooo wanting to try it in the black base now!
My matcha order was the following:
Size : Small
Matcha Quality: Starter (Basic Grade)
Flavor: Robust

I’m running out of red leaf tins to pop my matcha into so I’ll have to pick up some more in my next order! I ordered this matcha because I was curious as to how close to an Oreo it might be. My nickname for a while in highschool? Was Oreo – in part because I could devour entire bags in no time flat and because it became a game with our friends to have nicknames that we could use the letters in it to mean something else. Anyway…i digress, on with the matcha!
Opening this bag up, the kitchen was soon flooded with cookies n’ cream! I was a little excited because it really does smell like an oreo…only a much better quality oreo haha
I think this would be really good hot, but in my usual fashion, I’m trying it first the way I think it will be “less” tasty. No bananas for me today so my smoothie was a little less thick than i like it to be but nice and cold – just the wake up I needed since the time change is wreaking havoc on me for some reason. This is a tasty matcha. I’m beginning to wonder if red leaf can make a matcha that i dislike! Again, this doesn’t compare to cheesecake and caramel but it’s a nice change of pace. I keep expecting to see flecks of black cookies in my matcha!
Buy it here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html

Cold matcha latte! Apres workout deliciousness! Feels nice to get through a tough “restart” and have this to come home too. Added a dash of cheesecake to it as well for extra creamy goodness. Really enjoying all my red leaf matcha.

Wheee! Yes I’m awake Teaqualsbliss! I just got distracted by the shiny things at work :) Today’s morning matcha is brought to you by the word cookie and the texture cream. I’m nearly done this one so it’s likely that I’ll try and have it over the next few days to continue my super sipdown! I even brought a few teas to work with me since i suspect today will be a REALLY boring day (so excitement steepsterites!) since most of the world is home today.

Anyway, as usual this is a creamy cookie delight. I really do love my morning smoothies from red leaf!

Behind in my tasting notes today…trying to get everything done before back to work tomorrow. Had this in the morning and it was amazing! Added just a pinch of Belgian chocolate matcha and French vanilla to the mix and it was extra dreamy :)

Sip down! Yay for getting through another matcha…..which of course just means I can open the last package of the order I made since another tin is free :) that also means by February I might be able to place another red leaf order to pick up all my favourites.

This one was a good one but I’d be more inclined to get vanilla and chocolate and just mix those two together for a similar taste. That being said, this is one flavour I don’t need to turn down ever :)

mmmmmm smoothie! I totally didn’t get a chance to make one yesterday and I missed it. While i thoroughly enjoy this matcha, I’m leaning towards either not ordering it again or trying it with a black base. I’m starting to find that the cookies part of this isn’t quite what I want from a cookies n’ cream flavour. It helps when i add a wee bit of chocolate to the mix but it’s not quite there for what i’m looking for.

I made a smoothie this morning and with the cookies & cream matcha i tossed in just a little bit of of the french vanilla matcha. This makes it ever so much more creamy and delicious! Sooo tasty!

Hmm, this one is not as expected. The dry aroma is spot on Oreos. But the taste doesn’t translate. I had plenty of matcha in my sample, so I know it’s not a leaf to water ratio thing. Can you describe matcha as having leaves since it’s powdered?

Maybe Oreos and matcha just aren’t a good mix. Oh man, but now I really want Oreos. So far, caramel matcha is the clear winner in the matcha taste test. More to come later! Thanks for the sample, Indigobloom!!!

Another GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Azzrian for another lovely Matcha!

I totally agree that this smells spot-on Cookies & Cream prior to adding the water! Even after the water is added it smells like it – minus – that punch of sugar I smelled prior to adding the water, that is.

Eventho I really do enjoy the flavor of this matcha – in a blind taste-test I am not sure if I would say it was Cookies & Cream. It’s not as obvious as some of the other matcha flavors, I guess.

Perhaps it’s more of the cream I am getting…like the inside of a Newman-O’s (or Oreo’s)…not so much the crumbly cookie of the outside but the sugary-cream on the inside.

Regardless I like this. It’s a treat. It’s tasty. I will certainly enjoy when I drink it!

Backlogging from yesterday…YUMMO!

I had at lest 3 cups of this earlier and LOVED it!
Helping me get thru the day – that is for sure! See other notes :)

Red Leaf introduced several new matcha flavors (as if they don’t have enough already), and when I saw that this was on the list, and on sale, I had to jump on it. I’m such a sucker for Oreos (even though they are so bad for me). This Matcha seemed like the perfect treat of healthy (cause its tea!) and sorta-indulging in Oreo-goodness.

As a reminder, you can get the matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html

I ordered the 30g Cookies and Cream Matcha, Starter (Basic Grade), Flavor: Robust. I admit that after I ordered, I saw some other Steepsters order there Cookies & Cream with the black matcha base, and honestly that sounds pretty good. I almost wish I would have thought of that. I’m interested to see what they think of it when the reviews come out. Anyway, back to the matcha.

As always, this matcha smells so delicious. The flavor is so overpowering just from a smell. You don’t really smell any matcha at all. I definitely smell the cream over the cookies, although both work together. The smell reminds me a little bit of the caramel matcha, very sweet but almost a bit creamy too.

First, I sifted the matcha. Remember how a few matchas ago I was having sifting issues? I found the perfect sifter (that’s not a sifter). I actually use one of my old tea balls that I got when I first started into loose leaf. You know, the one with the long handle that opens and closes that everyone and their grandmother has? This works great for sifting matcha. I pour in a scoop, close the ball, and then shake it around over the cup. It works great, and I’m thankful I get to put the ol’ tea ball back to use since it’s been out of commission for a while.

Before I put the water in, I took a look at the matcha. Maybe it’s just my imagination, or a trick of the lighting, but I think I saw some white particles in there along with the green – which would make sense, it is cookies and cream. I didn’t see any dark particles, though, so who knows. Anyway, I brewed my matcha as normal, added some milk, and took a sip.

As usual, this matcha is very very good. Another great desert matcha for those with a sweet tooth but who don’t want to over indulge. I don’t know if I would say it tastes exactly like Oreos, but there is definitely a creamy deserty type note to it. I will say that I preferred the caramel just a little bit more, but I think they can both stand on their own.

I love cookies and cream ice cream. I love Oreos. I love cookies and cream candy bars. So this was another flavor I suggested when Red Leaf Tea asked what kind of flavors we’d like to see in matcha. And oh, was it ever a good choice. Yum. The cream part I knew would be good, Red Leaf Tea has always been amazing with their creamy matchas. But the cookie part was also very present and very delicious. It honestly felt like I was drinking an Oreo. This cup got me through my first day back at work after a week off for my brother’s wedding. It was wonderful and I kept reaching for it, even as the day got crazier and crazier. I may have to make another cuppa to get me through today….but no, I have so many other new, wonderful matchas to try! Though I think mixing this with the cheesecake matcha would be too wonderful to be believed. I want to just go sniff the matcha, but my nose is all stopped up and I wouldn’t be able to appreciate the goodness of it. Sad. But this is definitely one to keep around for ever. If you haven’t tried it, I whole-heartedly recommend it. (found here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html)

This is actually my second try of this matcha, and it’s much more delicious this time. I added a bit more sugar and a bit less matcha this time around to this hot latte. It’s definitely better to my taste buds so I wanted this good tasting note to be the first one on top that people see rather than the unfortunate first try.

This has been sitting on my counter/in the freezer for a month or so, waiting for me to buy a new tin or a tin to open up (the first one happened). This second try, I’m enjoying quite a lot, definitely an extremely creamy matcha with chocolate cookie too. It’s definitely cookie too, not just chocolate. I can taste the ‘cookie’ taste, like I’m drinking an oreo shake somewhere instead of a skim milk matcha latte with not even a tsp of sugar in it. When I added too much matcha it had a sort of chemically feel to it, so be warned, if that happens, try again with less. About 2/3 tsp is perfect for me, give or take. I estimate using a full tsp at work judging the empty space left in the teaspoon, and I use an overflowing ‘perfect cup of matcha’ half teaspoon at home. This matcha was drunk at home but it will be travelling to work with me tomorrow to add to the work collection since I drink at least 3 matcha lattes per day during work days. Thankfully I metabolize caffeine too quickly to get any negative effects from that.

Anyway, this is a really tasty matcha when you do it right. Very sweet and creamy and cookie like. I’m really enjoying it.

You can find it at: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html

I think this one is going to be a finicky flavour for me. I added a bit too much matcha again and the faint chemical taste came back. I like this, I really do, but only if I make it correctly and apparently there’s a narrow band to do this. Glad I only got distinctive flavouring level.

A little more sugar than usual today, about 2/3 tsp. Quite tasty.

Enjoyable way to end the work day and work week. Looking forward to the weekend.

A little bitter today, had to let it sit for a while before a meeting so kind of cold too.

Backlogging this from the weekend. This was actually my first cup but I didn’t want this tasting note to be on top. I put way too much matcha in it and it just tasted vaguely bitter and not like the flavouring (or the smell!) is supposed to at all. The second cup, that I reviewed, tasted much better.

Wow, the dry matcha smells incredibly strong, like I just opened a pack or oreos, but a little thicker and creamier.

I prepared this in a way that is quickly becoming my standard, since I got some good smoothie cups to take to work: 2 chashaku scoops of matcha, fill the 16oz cup about half way with water, blend (OMG my stick blender makes this so easy – no lumps! Nice froth! No sifting needed!) fill the rest of the cup with whole milk and ice. My matcha lattes stay cold easily for a couple hours, which is plenty of time for me to drink them :)

My first impression upon sipping this one agrees with the smell of thedry matcha: the flavor is strong and noticeable. The green tea flavor is actually pretty overwhelmed. It must just be something about the Cookies & Cream flavor, as opposed to the others I’ve tried, but this is kind of like being hit in the face with a carton of cookies ‘n’ cream ice cream. It’s definitely a contrast to the Royal Bavarian Cream I had yesterday, and even stronger than my “distinctively” flavored cheesecake matcha. I found myself wondering if I somehow prepared this stronger than usual? It’s possible, but if that were the case I’d expect more green tea flavor too, and that’s not what I’m getting here.

As you may have figured out, the flavor is really too strong for my taste (even on delicate, which this is) and comes across kind of artificial to me. Boo! This is the first time I’ve had that issue with Red Leaf’s matcha – I thought maybe they were magic :/ However! The aftertaste is quite good, as if I’ve been eating that cookies & cream ice cream I mentioned and just set it down for a minute. I think I need to give this another chance, so I’ll try preparing it in the classic style (warm, whisked) as well as cold with just water – hopefully one of those will work better for me.

If you are a big cookies & cream fan, I would certainly recommend this, with the caveat to try the delicate flavor first! On the other hand, if you’ve been looking for a matcha flavor that lets you forget you’re drinking matcha – look no further! This is like a cookies & cream milkshake all on its own :P

So about a week ago I was having a really, really bad night. I came home, made myself a huge pot of tea and started browsing the internet. Well I accidentally hit a button and it went to red leaf’s website. I was slightly annoyed by this until I saw it… COOKIES AND CREAM MATCHA!!! My eyes widened and then I blacked out. I do remember being super happy seeing it. And apparently I ordered it because it was in my mailbox a week later. You can also order it here:
http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/cookies-and-cream-matcha.html

Anyways, it smells SO good. I saved this to be the last matcha I tried today and I’m happy. Cookies and cream is one of my favorite flavors so when I saw they had a matcha flavored one.. it completely turned my bad night around :] I ordered the “distinctive” flavoring on this one and I’m happy I did. It’s so creamy and sweet. The matcha is now the one hiding behind the cookies and cream. It almost reminds me of a melted cookies and cream hershey bar(my favorite candy in the ENTIRE WORLD!) Well I think that this matcha has found it’s way into my permanent matcha collection. This is a wonderful one if you’re looking for that extra touch of creaminess! Ready… Set… Go buy it!!
