Let me just start by saying this tea rivals my love for Butterscotch matcha!
I don’t know if I can put into words just how delectable this matcha is!
It tastes like popcorn (check)
It tastes like caramel (check)
It tastes like butter (check)
So we have here a caramel-y, buttery, smooth, popcorn matcha that tastes extra smooth and creamy due to the excellent matcha base provided to us by Red Leaf Tea!

I made mine into a latte with creamer, milk, and ice.

This is perfect for the upcoming season, fall, Halloween on the way, and it makes me think of caramel popcorn balls! You know you loved getting those as a kid. Well I know I did, still do haha, and now days you don’t have to make them at home but can buy them pre-made. Yet nothing is as good as making them at home, and the taste is by far better when you do! This matcha tastes like the homemade kind, where the sugars become caramelized and have that toasty just almost burnt flavor but its not burnt and don’t let that one word scare you away – its just caramelized like the crust on a creme brulee dessert! If you have never had one of those your totally missing out!

As a type 1 diabetic let me just say that with all these flavor selections Red Leaf Tea has its like a miracle to me! Now I am not sure about sugar content in the matcha since they are flavored and all, but I have not had any issues with my blood sugars related to drinking these matcha, of course if you have health concerns be sure you monitor yourself closely until you have an established base line. However, this is a way for me to indulge in so many temptations without suffering consequences. Now while nothing can replace a TRUE caramel popcorn or popcorn ball I will tell you sometimes, in some ways I prefer my yummy matcha from RLT to the real deal!

If you are a dieter, work out fanatic, into health, or even appreciate the wonderful benefits of matcha tea, you can’t go wrong with Red Leaf I mean with all those flavors there is surely at least a handful you will find as amazing I have this one and Butterscotch just to name my top two favorites right now.

When I opened my package of Caramel Popcorn …. Oh my eyes ROLLED back into my skull haha, and I felt so enraptured by the aromas! I am still sitting here with this matcha and it is one of the thickest creamiest matcha I have had to date and I have had a TON of matcha!

I got the robust flavor in the basic matcha quality and it is STELLAR!

A new froyo shop opened up in the shopping center near my apartment complex, and I’ve already been twice. It opened Friday, lol.

This time I decided to try more of the flavors, starting with Caramel Pretzel, which I ended up getting. So then I decided that wasn’t enough, and I needed more caramel…despite having chocolate turtles filled with caramel, and caramel sauce itself on this caramel flavored yogurt. Hahaha.

Okay really I’m just obsessed with the chawan.

And no. No I do not like this one. I can’t even drink it because of the way it smells. This is just not for me. I had so much hope for it but ughhhh I can’t.

Which makes it more like the kettle corn flavor at the froyo shop. There are some things that just don’t work for me.

The tasting notes on this one have been SO good, I kind of had super high expectations going into it. I mean, Azzrian’s favorite matcha?! As the current matcha queen of steepster, I really trust her opinion so yes, I had high hopes for this one! I snagged one as soon as it went on sale. As a side note, I hate my post office! The tracking info on stuff coming to me is totally messed up, and it keeps saying stuff is in transit after it’s arrived or that it’s been sitting in my post office for a week and hasn’t been delivered, it’s so annoying! I think they held this one “hostage” for a while, since it took way longer than usual and I only got it after I went there and bugged them. But anyway, back to tea! I got:

Size: Small (30 grams)
Base: Classic Matcha
Flavor: Delicate

I’m not sure why I went with delicate over distinctive (my usual), I just had a feeling that it’d be best with a light flavor. The smell in the bag is amazing, caramel and popcorn and BUTTER! It reminds me of the microwave caramel popcorn they used to make… they still make some kinds now, but this one came with a huge chunk of caramel to put in the bag after you warmed up the popcorn so instead of some caramel glaze it was ACTUAL gooey, delicious caramel on your popcorn. That stuff was soooo good, but I guess it’s just cheaper to skimp out and glaze them. Sigh.

I whipped this up last night as a hot latte, and holy moly it is just… perfect. Amazing! You can taste ALL of the levels of flavor, even with the delicate option. There’s rich, fresh-made caramel flavor, reminiscent of (unsurprisingly) caramel, one of the classic and most-loved Red Leaf flavors. Then there’s the popcorn, without the crunch but with that almost fluffy, airy taste. Then, BUTTER. I can’t believe there’s actual slightly salty butter flavor in here! It makes this sooo rich and delicious and just perfect. No mistaking what flavor this is! It so reminds me of the old caramel popcorn, it’s like having it back finally!

Of course because I went with delicate, the matcha flavor isn’t overpowered but makes for a nice base of sorts, keeping the caramel flavor from getting too heavy. And as much as I totally love this one, I REALLY want to try it with a black base with the distinctive level of flavoring… just thinking about adding those chocolate cookie notes to this makes my brain explode! If you love dessert matchas like me, get this. Heck, if you love matcha, get this. If you love tea at all get this! Really, it is just perfect.

Having an iced latte of this, I really can’t emphasize enough how damn tasty it is! Caramel, butter, matcha, milk… ugh, this is sinfully good. I seriously think this is my second favorite of the Red Leaf matchas, Pumpkin Pie is still my #1 though! I wonder what would happen if I put them together…

Oh yummy! This is the last “unopened” Matcha that I have in the house! Don’t cry for me though, I have an order on it’s way that will provide me with much Matcha goodness. In the meantime, I have A TON (well, maybe not a ton, but a whole heck of a lot) of Matcha to keep me occupied. As well as other teas.

This is yummy. While preparing it traditionally with hot water and whisking, I thought, I shouldn’t turn this into a latte, milk with popcorn sounds weird. BUT… I took my first sip and decided while it was good, it needed something else. The caramel needed more creaminess. So a splash (a little tiny splash) of milk was added and this made it just perfect! It is sweet and creamy and caramel-y, but, with a delicious popcorn flavor too, and maybe just a hint of saltiness in all of it. The flavor is really good… maybe even better than the straight up caramel. Maybe. Might need to have it a couple more times … or more than a couple … to determine which is better.

This is incredibly wonderful though. The Matcha offers just a hint of vegetative flavor and the smooth, luscious texture of the Matcha really adds to the caramel-y flavor of the overall taste. I taste butter in this, probably a combination of the flavoring and the Matcha and it is divine. When it comes to butter … I subscribe to the Paula Deen school of thought: Butter makes it better. And in this case, the buttery flavor really does make it better … it enhances the caramel tones, and brings out the popcorn notes.

Oh so good. You’ve got to try this! Well, what are you waiting for? Here’s the link: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/caramel-popcorn-matcha.html So now there’s no excuse. Get there … and do it now, and order some. You’ll be glad you did.

My went with my “go-to” specifications for this order, choosing the classic grade of Matcha with the distinctive flavoring. It’s just right. I think that more flavoring, while probably incredible, would end up diluting the flavor of the Matcha too much. The Matcha now is a little obscured, not as strong as it is in some of the other flavored Matcha, but, it all comes together in a really delicious way. I do like to taste the Matcha, so I’m glad I went with the distinctive level of flavoring here.

A really yummy treat. Really glad I got this one. Now… imagine this if you would. Imagine a combination of this, plus some of the chocolate Matcha, plus some of the almond Matcha. Would that not be decadence X3?

Might have to get some of the other two Matcha just so that I can have that. Yep… going to have to do that I think, with my next order.

After a tough battle of matcha sales, caramel popcorn won, so when it was on sale I had to grab it. I love kettle corn, but I was a little hesitant. After all, I already had caramel flavored matcha. Would this be any different? And the verdict is a resounding YES!

As always, the matcha smells wonderful, and potent (that’s what I get for getting robust flavoring). The boyfriend came in and asked if I was baking cookies, but nope, just opening a bag of really strong smelling matcha.

This matcha is even better than caramel because it has a lot more complex flavoring in it. I can taste the caramel, which is nice, but I can also taste the butter notes and the popcorn notes. I would say it’s almost a little more buttery popcorn than sweet popcorn, but then again I didn’t add any sweetener. I bet if you really wanted the kettle corn effect, you could add some sweetener and make it pop.

I put this in a water bottle tonight and brewed it up cold. I wasn’t sure how well it would do, but the flavoring really holds up. Not need to add any sweetener because the flavor just pops. Even the boyfriend admitted that it was very tasty.

All in all a surprisingly good matcha, and this coming from someone who’s not too big on desert matchas.

Another tea from my Momo box. My whole family loved this! In the words of my grandmother: “This is better than coffee!” lol! I ended up making six almond milk lattes with this matcha because everyone in the family liked the smell of it. I’m glad they enjoyed it because there was something about it that I didn’t like.

The matcha was darker and you could tell it was finer than the matcha I had from Joy’s Teaspoon this morning. At first it didn’t seem to dissolve better than the Izu Matcha (and I had even strained it to make sure there would be no clumps), but then it just seemed to melt into the hot water when I started whisking. Very nice!

The matcha definitely smells of caramel, but there is a popcorn scent too. It reminded me of popcorn jellybeans, which I liked for a little while as a child but now I can’t stand one bit. That’s probably what turned me off of it. The taste was exactly like the smell. I really think I could have enjoyed this if it was just a caramel matcha, but the popcorn jellybean taste really was a miss for me. The smoothness of the powder itself when whisked into the drink however make me sure that I would like to try some other Redleaf matchas in the future, so I’m glad I got to taste it!

Special Thanks to Azzrian for this one! It smells more like Popcorn than Caramel and it tastes a bit more like Caramel than popcorn…esp up front. On the lingering aftertaste it takes more like popcorn, tho. This is a piece of work, it really is! Tasty! YUM!

Backlogging this one too! Sorry folks!

My first encounter with this matcha was amazing! I opened up the pouch, preparing it for the tin that will keep in the yummy goodness. The small size fits perfect in the tin with a little wiggle room…enough to be able to get the measuring spoon in.
I was immediately brought back to my younger days when I attended the carnival. It smelled that good! I had intended to prepare this hot, but after the delicious smell, I decided to make as a latte instead. I frothed up a nice 10oz glass of milk (cold) with 1 tsp of matcha. Let me just say, it was hard not to immediately make another one!
I did purchase this blended as white matcha as I was looking for the caramel flavor to shine through more than an earthy flavor. The taste was just as it smelled…creamy caramel with a hint of popcorn flavor. I purchased the delicate level and it had plenty of flavor so I don’t think I’d need to go higher on this one. I also did not need to add any sugar to increase the flavor or sweetness.
My plan for the rest of Caramel Popcorn is to mix it as a latte. I don’t think I’ll be sharing this one, but keeping it all for myself! Now I just need to order more Cotton Candy flavor and have a few friends over for a Carnival Matcha party!
Here is how I ordered my Caramel Popcorn Matcha from Red Leaf Tea:
Size: Small
Quality: White Matcha
Flavor: Delicate
Storage: Air tight refill flat pouch – would definitely recommend purchasing a tin for your matcha to keep it fresh. I did not order one this time since I already had a tin.

Okay, this matcha comes courtesy of threewhales. Thanks! It is really good. I was pretty apprehensive about a popcorn flavored matcha, but it is perfectly balanced. What a great accompaniment for an evening of movie watching!

My first ever flavored matcha and I am in love.

I got—

Size: Small (30g )

Matcha: Classic

Flavoring: Distinctive

My first task was getting the powder into the tin, no easy task and I’m very glad I put a sheet of newspaper down first. Once that was accomplished I put some water on to heat to 175 and about 6oz of coconut milk(my preferred latte base) in the microwave. I used my electric frother to mix the matcha into 2oz of hot water then mixed that into the coconut milk.
I took a tentative sniff and wrinkled my nose. It tasted, well simply it tasted like burnt caramel. I was getting nervous but I bravely went on bringing the cup to my mouth.
Then came the moment of truth…
WOW this is good! The flavor is round and true with the sweetness of the carmel. Not a hint of the burnt flavor I was smelling all sweet corn and butter and sweetness. This would make an awesome iced drink I think. Yesterday I went to a cafe that had coffee ice cubes so your iced coffee didn’t get watered down as they melted and I think that would translate well to iced matcha. Of course before i go making any iced drinks I suppose I better get some ice trays.
But I digress. This is delicious. I was a bit nervous trying a flavored matcha so I went with what I felt like was the safe rout of making it into a late but I think this would stand up by itself as a good wake up drink.

One of my true weaknesses is opposing flavors. Sweet and sour, spicy and sweet, and of course my love for sweet and salty. The perfect combination of amazing-ness.

When I was planning on putting in my order to Red Leaf Tea, they had caramel popcorn matcha on sale and I figured why not. After opening the package the aroma filled my nose. I was in heaven…All the buttery notes of popcorn caught my attention and were soften with the creamyness of caramel. I thought theres no way it can actually taste the way it smells. I planned to prepare it traditionally and added a couple ounces water with two bamboo spoonfuls of matcha. After whisking for a good minute, a nice frothy foam formed and finally time for the first sip!

The taste was delicate and had the perfect balance of butter and sweet creamy caramel. A bit of the matcha flavor came through, but I barely detected any bitterness or vegetal flavor. Now that I knew what it tasted untainted, it was time to turn it into my favorite style, tea latte. I warmed up some vanilla soy milk and just a touch of agave. I normally sweeten my teas with Truvia, but I figured the agave flavor would add more emphasis to the caramel.

At this point is where this matcha truly shined. The touch of milk and sugar brought out the flavors even more. It was like a warm cup of salty, creamy, buttery, caramely goodness. I also equally enjoy this matcha as an iced latte. When I’m in a hurry before muay thai or jiu jitsu practice, I throw everything in my magic bullet and voila! tons of foam and a latte under a minute. This is the perfect alternative to any energy drink and it’s became my favorite ritual of the day before practice.

I definitely recommend this flavor to anyone who loves sweet and salty or loves caramel. You can purchase this match from:

This was my first experience with matcha. I’m addicted to caramel popcorn, so when I saw reviews online saying this tastes just like the real thing, I knew I had to try it! I live in an apartment complex, and when I walked into the mailroom, I could immediately smell caramel popcorn—it was THAT strong (in my opinion, that’s a great thing!).

I tore open the box it came in as soon as I got back to my apartment, and when I cut open the bag the matcha was held in, it smelled exactly like fresh popped caramel corn. As I said, I had never had matcha before, so I didn’t notice any matcha scent.

I first tried it prepared in the traditional method, with hot water. While I could taste the caramel corn, there was also an earthy, woody taste that I’m assuming was the matcha. I think I used too much powder, though, because it also left my mouth feeling very dry.

I tried it today as a latte, and I liked it this way much better. I used unsweetened vanilla almond milk and a teaspoon of splenda. I could hardly taste the woody flavor I mentioned earlier, but the caramel tones really came out with the milk. This was the perfect midafternoon pick-me-up, and I’ll most likely be ordering again.
