Almond Matcha

Stunning flavor! Accurate to the core on how almond tastes only in a sweeter version! Close to amaretto but there is a difference and I do love both! I am glad I got both as well because I contemplated if they would be too similar and not worth the cost of both however as much as I love both flavors, I had to do it and I have no regrets!

This Almond matcha is sweet and nutty. The aroma is captivating!! My daughter was in the process of making macrons and decided she will add some almond matcha to them. Unfortunately we had to stop because we were out of parchment paper – can’t use waxed …. so anyway off to the store we shall run and I am going to pick up more sparkling water because I want to make an Italian Creme Soda with this almond matcha which will be AMAZING! Frothed up lovely even in milk.

I love that Red Leaf uses natural flavors!

I got back having paused in my review here and have made my almond matcha into a lovely Italian Cream Soda! DELICIOUS! I recommend trying nearly all of the matcha flavors this way.

My matcha was composed of Basic grade matcha powder and I got the Robust flavoring – this is one that you could easily go delicate and still have enough flavor. It is that strong and that good but I am glad I did get Robust just because that is what I generally prefer but next time I may just go a level lower because it does cover up a lot of the matcha base flavor and I enjoy that very much as well. I also always get the tin, even if I have to order them later I always end up going back and getting them. They are so handy and some of the best tins I have ever come across – I love that they screw on! Easy to clean as well for your next matcha flavor.

So I am very pleased that Red Leaf included a sample of this for me to try with my last order. I have a severe peanut allergy and have avoided all other nuts as well to be safe in case of contamination. However, I emailed Red Leaf to check that their teas are nut free and they told me that even their nut teas are nut free! The natural flavorings are not actually made with the nut extracts! So since I have avoided almonds all my life for fear of them being contaminated by peanuts, I finally decided to see what they taste like in the form of a safe matcha before I actually try the real thing. I still don’t think I will chance trying a peanut matcha, but I thought this would at least be a step into trying nuts that I am not allergic to without fear. And tonight, I got up my nerves to make this matcha.

So I have never had almonds before lol, except for amaretto coffee flavoring on a few rare occasions, so bear with me for this review! At first, I thought this smelled an awful lot like cherries! LOL, I asked my boyfriend to smell it and he says “no, no, it’s like that almond topping they put on cakes”. Ah, marzipan, which I have never had lol. And then I remembered that amaretto is supposed to taste like almond-y, and that’s what this smells like to me. Yummy!

As for the taste, well, I don’t have a lot to base it off of, but it is super creamy and smooth! A bit of the amaretto flavor and what I expect to be almonds in there too! This is sweet and yummy! And I finally tried something with almonds (kind of)!! I am grateful that I finally have gotten the chance to try an almond flavored item that I am not afraid of getting sick from. Once again, thank you Red Leaf Tea for allowing me to branch out in trying new foods!

ETA: This is really good. I might actually have to order some more of this! It is just so tasty and creamy! Perfect amount of sweetness for me too :)

This matcha is actually probably my favorite of the ones I have! I can’t believe it lol, go from never tasting almonds to loving this matcha, such a surprise! Will have to order more of this, I am having a cup with hot water tonight for a bit more comfort, the guy took me out for dinner so that helped improve my day, and this tea is too :) creamy, sweet and just what I needed. See previous notes on this delicious matcha!

I am going to try to get to some Verdant samples today, but I just had a massive wad of fettuccine alfredo for lunch (homemade, but the sauce still gets pretty thick) so I needed some matcha before I delve into other teas. And oh my goodness, this is still so good. Made it with just hot water, sans sugar. This is definitely going in my next red leaf order, although it probably won’t be for ages, I am too slow at drinking matcha! I love the creamy sweetness of this tea, it’s satisfying and cozy and just so good. See previous notes on this wonderful matcha :D

I debated long and hard about getting the almond matcha. I love almond scent in hand lotions and such, but my mother never ever used almond extract and I never had anything flavored with it until I was grown. I have never had marzipan that I can recall though I had a marzipan chocolate bar that was quite good that my daughter picked up in Budapest or somewhere.

When I was young, I became friends with a man who owned a Chinese restaurant. He served a dessert drink called Toasted Almond. If I remember correctly, it contained Amaretto, Creme de Cacao, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, a bit of milk, and ice shavings tossed in a blender. There was possibly a bit of sugar added. Bottom line – it was intoxicatingly delicious. Literally. Because there was alcohol in it but it was so good you wanted to have three in a row, which fortunately I did not do.

Yesterday, my bestie and I had a matcha marathon! I got a bamboo whisk and an aerolatte for Christmas so we were experimenting. We made an almond matcha latte – just cold milk, a spoon of Turbinado sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon of matcha. Yummy!

Then my son and his girlfriend came. I amped it up for them. This is how I made two servings at once: Two scoops Breyer’s Lactose Free Vanilla Ice Cream (because it tastes sweeter due to the lactose being broken down), milk, a tablespoon of sugar,
and a teaspoon of almond matcha.

One second their glasses were full, the next – empty! They said it reminded them of an expensive dessert drink they had at a fancy Italian restaurant near where my son lives.

I think I have found my favorite matcha flavor! I am so glad I bought the large as I have a feeling this drink is going to be much in demand throughout the holidays! I chose Robust flavor level, as always! Here is where to get it:

Someone stop me, please! No, don’t. I am going to sing to my matcha lattes…..if lovin’ you is wrong, I don’t wanna be right.

Since almond flavor is a big favorite of mine, and one I only tried in recent years, not having been brought up around it, I decided tonight’s flavored matcha latte would be almond. While it was DELISH, I think I am starting to prefer unflavored matcha. GASP! (We knew this day was coming, didn’t we?? I plan to try an unflavored and a Bavarian Cream Latte tomorrow. I have high hopes for the Bavarian Cream one. It is so fresh and lemony, I think it will be scrumptious served cold.)

Now I want to try the three highest grades of unflavored matcha that Red Leaf sells and see which one makes the very best latte! I am hoping i can use one of the not quite so expensive ones successfully!

I am really loving these with honey instead of the raw cane sugar I was using. That is totally unexpected to me. I really like my raw cane sugar and thought the honey would add too much of its own flavor to the drink, but instead it really enhances it.

Having a much needed almond matcha frap tonight. I am tired and my back is aching and I just can’t seem to get comfortable.

My son and godson have arrived and my daughter is coming tomorrow to celebrate lil sister’s birthday. I have made a cake and two batches of ice cream, and after washing dishes and cleaning it still looks like an utter wreck in there!

I wanted something super tasty to wash down a bunch of ibuprofen. I put a wee bit of skim milk, and a teaspoon of sugar in a glass. I sifted in one half teaspoon matcha. I whooshed it with my aerolatte, then added milk to the top of the glass. Nice! Nice! The amount of milk I first put in is all that gets frothed so I don’t risk ending up with a big glass of nothing but foam. It is a great way to control the amount of froth.

I love to top it up with milk and then add ice. For some reason I just love these extra cold.

Ohhhh man is this ever TASTY!
I bought the Royal grade with distinctive flavouring and it is perfect. I may go with robust next time just to see what the difference is and for a change. and yes there will be a next time, size large.
I really taste the almond/marzipan. It isn’t exactly nutty though, definitely more on the almond paste, dessert side. This time, I tried it with and without a splash of milk, and I like it both ways. With the added dairy, it’s even more treat like so if you want to push it to that place, I recommend it.
Also, I got an odd astringency from the tea. It was a touch sour! Not sure if that was the base or the flavouring, or perhaps a combination of both.
Either way, I am in love. What’s that Beatles song? All you need is love…

This is such a treat for me that I’ve been holding back on indulging… not wanting to let it become less special. Maybe I need to set up a rotation schedule, so that I give all my matchas equal love.
Also, I really like that there are no resteeps with matcha. No guilt! I mean, it’s one of those things that I really enjoy about tea, but sometimes it’s nice not to, ya know?

I made another smoothie today, and I daresay, the caramel one from a few days ago was much better!

This makes for an excellent smoothie. Love!

OMG – this is SO good. Thank you Azzrian for sending me some of it! I love this … this is actually one that I’ll be adding to my stash at some point because I’m really loving it.

Sweet and nutty – the two elements play with one another so well, both are sweet and creamy, and they seem to accent each other in such a beautiful way. Dinosaura likened this to liquid marzipan, and I agree… it is so good, like a dessert! Loving this!

I can’t believe I’m the first one to review the almond matcha. Almond seems like a popular flavor, but I guess others have gotten more attention recently and almond has fallen by the wayside. It’s one of my very favorite flavors, though, so I knew I had to order it in my last order.

For this matcha I ordered the Basic grade base, but I went all the way to “There’s Matcha in there?!” as the flavoring level because 1) I can never have enough almond, and 2) often almond teas just aren’t almondy enough for me. Can’t let this happen here! Cutting open the package releases an amazingly powerful almond aroma, like sniffing a bottle of almond extract.

I prepared the matcha using a half teaspoon of matcha for 8oz total of water. I was a little concerned about being overpowered by flavor, so I went small for this one. I sifted my matcha into the bowl, making sure all the “flavor crystals” made their way in, then added a splash of water to loosen up the powder in the bottom of the bowl, then a couple of ounces to whisk with. I didn’t get great foam with this one, but I can’t tell if that’s user error from being extra tired this morning or not. Finally I finished adding the remainder of my 8oz of water.

The prepared matcha is probably one of the best-smelling prepared matchas I’ve come across. The almond-extract aroma is mitigated and it now smells actually nuttier, sweeter, more like marzipan or an almond paste cookie. First sip… wow, yum. This is so almondy and sweet on its own (I haven’t added any sugar), it’s like eating an almond cookie, or a big hunk of marzipan. I know the flavoring level is “There’s matcha in this?!”, but you can still taste the matcha, and it’s a flavor that goes well with the almond. I do think I probably could have gone with robust for this one because the type of almond flavoring they are using seems like the strong time that will come though fairly easy. Ok, I couldn’t resist adding just a touch of sugar (half teaspoon), and holy crap, is this like almondy matcha candy. It makes me think that this would be a good addition to a sugar cookie as opposed to almond extract to make a matcha almond cookie. This has been my favorite matcha so far, and I will definitely be back for more when I run out.

Made a latte with this one this morning with almond milk (natch). This is so delicious, but also super strong in flavoring; I definitely thing the almond flavoring is strong enough that I will be dropping down from the “There’s matcha in there?!” flavoring level when I have to reorder this one. Because this one is definitely a reorder!

It has been a loooong time since I have had a bowl of matcha. I used to drink one every morning last fall, but then I moved to Ohio and my morning routine changed, and I got out of making them. But I was portioning out some matcha for a swap today and decided that I really wanted some. Also I am exhuasted today from having to get up relatively early after a very late night. Then I washed my hands with almond soap and decided that I wanted almond matcha too.

I usually make my matcha with almond milk but I had none so I subbed regular milk. For some reason I just don’t like regular milk matcha lattes as much as almond milk lattes! This bowl had an almost savory note like it had been salted that was odd; I’m not sure if it is just the matcha being old or the choice of milks, but hopefully it is the latter.

This is my very first time making matcha. I couldn’t pass up the deal Red Leaf had on Black Friday. Sure, I don’t have all the fancy tools for proper matcha. I made do with a mug, strainer & little wire whisk. It turned out excellent!

When I first opened the gold pouch a really strong smell of almond hit me. At this point I was glad I started with the basic. I was afraid this was going to be super overpowering. It wasn’t an overpowering almond taste at all. It was pretty subtle. I could really taste the vegetal notes of this, which is ok by me. I’m so glad I ordered this!

Almond flavored green tea Matcha is now my favorite drink. When I received my Almond Matcha in the mail I was so excited, I mixed up a glass right then. I mixed one tablespoon of Matcha in hot water, added ice, then filled the rest of the glass with soy milk. This was so delicious that I drank the whole package in three days. While I was drinking my last glass of Matcha I went online, and ordered more. With my order of almond flavored Matcha I discovered many other tasty sounding flavors. I ended up ordering six additional flavors. The flavors that I ordered included: Almond, Caramel, Blueberry, Cotton Candy, Peanut Butter Pie, Raspberry, and English Toffee. Red leaf tea has many options to choose from as well. There are three different grades of Matcha you can choose to purchase. There are also four different intensities of flavor you can choose from. On top of that you can even select Organic if you wish. They also offer Red, White, Black or a mixed combo Matcha tea selection. I have yet to try any other Matcha besides the green tea Matcha. I ordered the classic grade, and delicate flavor, because that is what I got with my first order of almond Matcha. The flavor was a perfect balance of tea and flavor. You could taste the sweet Matcha, and still have the almond shine through. I’m so glad I tried it, and you can try it too here:
