This is yet another matcha that I picked up in the “buy five, get two free” package that I am splitting with a friend. We chose the following options:

Size: Small (30g)
Matcha Quality: Classic (Basic Grade)
Matcha Type: Regular
Flavor Level: Delicate

Having tried and loved the raspberry and cream matcha (Thank you Sil), I was very excited when I saw this. Raspberries and cream are delicious but something about the combination of strawberries and whipped cream is just right.

When I was younger, my mother would take my sister and I to plays and afterwards she would take us to a fancy hotel for dessert. Soon the people at the hotel came to know us and they would have a nice big bowl of strawberries and whipped cream waiting for when we arrived. When I took a sip of this matcha, I thought this reminded me of that but I was wrong. This reminds me of something so much better…

Half a teaspoon of this matcha mixed with eight ounces of milk tastes exactly like a strawberry milkshake. I LOVE strawberry milkshakes!! Creamy, sweet, and delicious, what is there not to love? This captures that perfectly (minue the calories of course) and I could not be happier! If you are a fan of strawberry milkshakes, you need to check out this matcha here: http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/strawberries-and-cream-matcha.html

Flavors: Berries, Cream

Roswell Strange

Oh that sounds amazing!

VariaTEA

This will definitely be reordered. This and Caramel Popcorn.

Roswell Strange

You should do white chocolate next – I’m curious about that one.

VariaTEA

Haha I shall keep that in mind. I wrapped them all in tin foil and am storing them in the fridge so each time I grab a pack it is a surprise.

Courtney

Good idea on the tin foil. My friend asked if we could do a matcha order soon, so now I need to narrow down flavours.

Roswell Strange

My matcha list is huge. But I think once I’m working again that’ll likely be the first thing I put an order in for. And then do a whole bunch of swaps :)

VariaTEA

I am already planning my next order and I have SOO much matcha right now.

Sil

i think i have this one in the cupboard as well…i figured i’d like strawberry and cream more than rasberry..

Courtney

I really need to acquire more of a taste for matcha so I can get through flavours quicker than my snail-like pace currently.

Fjellrev

Thanks for reviewing this one! I had this one on my list but wasn’t sure if it would be worthwhile.

And about White Chocolate, it was tasty, but generically sweet and creamy, and I had robust level flavouring.

sipdown 1

My mini goal over the next week or so is to drink at least one of my matchas down every day so that my cupboard can clear out of matcha since i’ve found myself drinking it less and less.

This was distinctive level flavouring and is really delicious. It’s not a really artificial strawberry, just strawberry with a hint of that delicious strawberry milkshake sort of taste. I actually think i’d get normal strawberry most of the time since i drink these as latte’s and the added “cream” doesn’t really do much but soften the strawberry flavour. But i’ve had straight strawberry before and loved it.

Courtney

I go through matcha phases hah. Good luck!

VariaTEA

I really loved this one. Mine was delicate flavoring and it tasted like a strawberry milkshake to me. Perhaps I should try the normal strawberry in my next order…

Sil

they’re both REALLY similar…i just figure since i’m dropping it in milk, might as well go with normal strawberry

VariaTEA

Makes sense.

This is a backlog from a few days ago. Just thinking about this review is making me want another latte of this, but it is too late for me to risk the caffeine. Definately first thing tomorrow morning. Anyway, strawberry milkshake is a reasonable description of what a latte of this tastes like. Obviously it has a vegetal match undertone, but at robust flavoring it is a strawberry treat. Yummy!

Oh, god. This is truly awful. I usually stay away from Red Leaf’s fruity flavors, but I thought this would be okay as it’s also a cream flavor which Red Leaf positively excels at. Unfortunately I was very much mistaken. Not only did this taste absolutely nothing like strawberry or cream, it was so rancid smelling I threw away the tin without even attempting to clean it. Saving it wouldn’t be worth breathing in that awful odor.

Not the worst tea I’ve had from them (I’m looking at you watermelon matcha), but it has reaffirmed my decision to stay away from fruit flavors offered by Red Leaf.

Stephanie

You tried the flavors from 3 Leaf tea yet?

kristinalee

Oh wow, watermelon matcha sounds like the worst idea ever.

cookies

Stephanie, yes, I’ve really loved them so far. Their strawberry matcha mixed in soy milk tastes like a strawberry milkshake.

Hooray, another sipdown! I’ve been trying to be ruthless over the last few months and not buy any new teas, but I suppose my ruthlessness only extends to not buying MANY new teas… I couldn’t resist going into Lupicia in Melbourne the other day, but that’s fair, because who knows when I’ll next be back in Melbourne? And I have picked up a T2 box here or there, but only a limited edition one… I swear. I swear.

I believe this sample came from VariaTEA last year… finally getting to the end of the delicious Red Leaf flavoured matchas and I will be sad to farewell them as they’ve been brilliant dessert options to have around. I’ve cheated tonight and finished this one off at work, where I’ve got access to a lovely big steamer and some delicious soy milk, so it’s Soy Matcha Latte Sunday in my hood. No regrets. Bloody marvellous.

I’m in danger of eating all the ginger kisses, too, if I’m not too careful.

Made this as a cold latte today, which seems to be the best way I can make them. I used the whole packet sample in my matcha mug, a little raw cane sugar, a little slightly cooled water, used my electric whisk frother for a few seconds (maybe 15?) and then slowly added about 1/3 cold milk and continued frothing. At that point I decided to try using more milk, so I turned the whisk brother off, added more milk, frothed again for another 15-20 seconds. The flavour is fairly mild behind all the milk, but creamy. Only it is a bit more artificial than I like, but tasty still.

Thanks for the sample, sil.

Uh, yummmm!

Made this as a hot latte earlier when I felt in need of a sweet treat after my lunchtime salad.

It’s hard to get strawberry flavored anything without a heavy chemical note, but they’ve managed to pull it off here!

It tastes a lot like a strawberry milkshake with only the faintest hint of a chemical taste.
Really creamy and full of strawberry deliciousness, as promised by the name.

I’d consider adding this to a future order!

Thanks for sharing some of this with me, Courtney!

This generous matcha sample comes from the wonderful VariaTEA who not only sent me this one but a top up of Bananas and Cream as well. From the moment I pulled it out of the box I was dying to try it, though I was patient enough to wait until this morning to have it in some cold with with breakfast (don’t judge – but “breakfast” was a massive bowl of buttered popcorn).

VariaTEA compares this to a strawberry milkshake, and just let me say that she’s 100% accurate in that description. Seriously I can’t think of a closer comparison to anything else. I’m instantly in love with this one, and I will be stocking up.

Actually funny thing; payday is tomorrow and the plan is to place a Red Leaf order as well as a Red Bubble (T-Shirts) order – so when I say I’ll be stocking up we’re talking, like, tomorrow…

But seriously: mmmm!

Flavors: Berries, Cream, Vanilla

Marzipan

The good thing about tomorrow is there will be a new sample of the month too.

VariaTEA

Oh yay! I am glad you liked this. Our tea triplet Courtney was not a fan so I was worried but you enjoyed it so YAY!

Courtney

Aw sorry I am out of the loop with this one. I hope we all enjoy Banana & Cream at least. :)

Roswell Strange

Bananas & Cream is to die for as well. Actually I like it better – but only slightly. It makes a good matcha soda too.

I’m really digging the hot matcha lattes. Almond milk is so freaking creamy that way! This matcha is nice, but it’s more of a hint of strawberry, rather than a definite strawberry. Maybe I need to up my flavor level to robust from now on. Anyway, it’s still creamy and delicious!

Lariel of Lórien

That sounds delicious!

outrageous!!! this smells outrageous!

like Strawberry Quik, only better. the strawberry has a fruity freshness that blends perfectly with the fresh cream. here again, i must reference my beloved Strawberries ‘n Cream Oatmeal by Quaker. obviously, it’s not exact, but it’s reminiscent of this strawberry flavor, which is such a comforting thing. i’m really loving strawberries as of late.

it all started with Ahmad’s Strawberry Sensation (black tea) which is absolutely divine. then Nina’s Paris Demain, a light & buttery green tea with an abundant yet delicate strawberry flavoring. Now this matcha. i am sooo in trouble.

i ordered the large size, royal (premium grade) with distinctive flavoring. so glad i did.
i must make a cup, tout de suite!
