This has become my new daily matcha from the legendary Red Leaf Tea. This is a mid to high grade matcha from Red Leaf, and reasonably priced. It’s hard for me to describe this matcha, as it doesn’t have any notes that are too forward. I liken to what I have heard people say about vodka, that “good” vodka really shouldn’t taste like much of anything. This matcha is supremely smooth and gentle, not too grassy, not too floral, not too savory. I have been drinking it iced, and it is simple and refreshing, cool, airy, green tea. All sweet and not bitter. It doesn’t have as diverse of a flavor profile as some of the higher grades, but this is definitely one of my favorite day to day matchas.

This matcha had a very mouth-filling taste and texture. It is bold in a sense, but in a very easy-to-handle kind of way. I really can’t pin down what flavors this has. Mostly it is sort of green and reminds me of tree leaves and fresh tree wood. There’s also a bit of metallic or mineral taste and a very subtle bitterness in the aftertaste that is definitely not too much for me.

This one was interesting. Nothing particularly stood out to me. It all seemed like one big bold mouth-filling flavor. It was a really different experience than I’ve had with Red Leaf’s other matchas, so I liked it. On the other hand, nothing stood out enough to make me particularly enthusiastic about it.

I highly recommend Royal Matcha from Red Leaf Tea! It tastes excellent, and your dollar goes the furthest with this unflavored Matcha, so you will not be disappointed! It also tastes like green tea ice cream and has a relatively strong, vegetal taste (not as strong as Imperial Matcha, though)! I drink it iced all the time too. Make it by the pitcher to make it last longer. Use one tablespoon of Royal Matcha per full pitcher of water, and one teaspoon of it for one big glass of water (add ice after stirring it in the glass). When making a pitcher of Royal Matcha, stir it thoroughly with a whisk after mixing it with water to mix in all the remaining clumps of dry Matcha. If you wish to sweeten it, I recommend doing so with sugar because it is less sweet when sweetened with Sweet N’ Low. Like any Matcha, it will be more flavorful when made hot by stove, but do not boil it too much, because that degrades its flavor. Turn off the stove as soon as small bubbles rise to the surface of the water, and then remove it from the stove immediately. Furthermore, when you buy a flavored Matcha from Red Leaf Tea, you can make it even better by choosing the “Royal Matcha” option. Royal Matcha is my go-to Matcha because it is wallet friendly but still high quality! You can buy Royal Matcha at http://www.redleaftea.com/matcha-tea/royal-matcha.html.
