2011 First Flush Darjeeling Marybong Estate

Black Tea by Rishi Tea

Our 2011 First Flush Darjeeling from Marybong Estate has a bright, lively, slightly astringent and succulent pit fruit flavor. As you drink this tea notice its complex aroma of peaches, dried apricot, and tropical flowers.

Marybong Estate has an elevation of 3000-6000 feet above sea level with unparalleled views of the entire Kanchenjunga range. Here, pine forests rise straight to the sky as if inspired by the Kanchenjunga, the world’s 3rd highest peak and the most dominant mountain in these parts of the Himalayas.

The teas coming from this estate are exquisite in flavor and present complex floral notes with hints of pit fruit combined with a brisk astringency.

The unbrewed tealeaves have a wonderful, fruity aroma, almost like fresh cut alfalfa. The tea brews golden and retains a little of the fruity aroma.

First Steeping: The taste tastes nutty and mild with a just a very little bit of astringency.

Second Steeping – Same temp, 5 minutes: Similar color and aroma to first steeping. Very similar taste and strength to first steeping.

Third Steeping – Same temp, 7 minutes: Lighter color, aroma, and much lighter flavor. Interestingly, the fruityness comes out in the taste.
