From Rishi Tea

Sencha has long been Japan’s most popular green tea, loved for its refreshing character.
All Natural & Antioxidant Rich
88mg polyphenols per serving!

To Your Health
Unlike instant tea extracts, Sencha is made with 100% pure tealeaves that are cold milled into a fine powder. No added colorants, synthetic sweeteners, sugars or flavors-just the antioxidant, vitamin and mineral-richness of real tea.

Low Caffeine
Contains just 3mg of caffeine per serving, compared to 85mg in your average cup of coffee.

Antioxidant Rich
Natural tea powder is one of the richest sources of flavonoid antioxidants that protect your body against free radicals—molecules that can damage cells. The powerful antioxidants found in tea are believed to help prevent cancer, lower cholesterol, strengthen the immune system and promote weight loss.

On vacation in Waynesville, NC where my grandparents are renting a place for a 4th of July family get together. Paradise! I’d really like to live in Asheville or somewhere near when I get out of school.

There’s a coffee shop in Waynesville that I always stop by when I’m here, and apparently they started carrying a few Rishi teas. I’ve been hunkered down here all day to get my schoolwork done before the rest of the family gets here.

This is a pretty tasty powdered sencha. Doesn’t make me go “wow” but its a refreshing and easy way to my tea fix :)

There’s a tea house in Asheville that’s supposed to be pretty nice, hopefully I’ll get to visit there sometime this week

Carolina boy huh? I grew up in west Jefferson outside of Boone.

Cool! I’ve lived most of my life in Florida, but my grandparents have always lived up here and I usually come up for a while in the summer. I really like the mountains.

Asheville is a very nice place. If you get a chance go to Shatley springs in West Jefferson. It is a really good place to eat and if you look out back across the pond you will see the house my mother grew up in. Your grandparents will probably know about this place. Good down home country cooking.

I was skeptical at the idea of a powdered sencha, but this wasn’t bad at all. Now, it wasn’t great, either, but for what it is, it’s perfectly good.

The preparation is simple. You tear open the pouch and dump the contents into a 16.9 oz. bottle of (presumably cold — wouldn’t want to drink this warm, or even room temp) water and shake vigorously. The water turns a cloudy, murky shade of green. The taste is like a weakly brewed sencha over ice — mildly vegetal and grassy, slightly astringent — fairly decent for an iced, unsweetened green tea. It’s comparable in terms of flavor and quality to iced tea made from bagged green tea. I’ve certainly had worse. And I do like the idea that I’m ingesting the actual tea leaf when I make this.

The powder does tend to settle at the bottom of the bottle, but a repeat shaking blends it right back in.

monday morning blues after quite a weekend: ze solution :::::: green tea powder? rushed out the door and didn’t have time to steep a tea so i tried this sample out.
while the flavor did not rival that of true loose leaf greens, this gave me a quick boost and made my mood a little more jovial…

good taste for powder. i can imagine that this would taste deeelicious sprinkled onto vanilla icecream! i guess i will save that for tonight’s dessert!

I have only tried this once and was not a big fan. I will give it another try at some point.

Refreshing. Easy. Vegital.
But constant shaking is needed to get everything off the bottom.

Love it! You might have to shake/mix it often though because some particles can settle at the bottom.
