From Rishi Tea

Dong Fang Mei Ren is the local name for Eastern Beauty, a style of uniquely oxidized oolong tea developed in the 19th century in the low elevation microclimates of Northern Taiwan. This tea, from among the most cherished of lots made just 10 days a year in early June, has nuances of honey and pit fruit.

Tasting Notes: Succulent with vivid aromas of tropical flowers, orange blossom honey and pit fruits

Ingredients: Oolong tea.

Additional Info: Eastern Beauty is one of our most unique offerings in that the highest qualities will ripen over time. This tea will become richer and smoother in texture, and develop deeper stone fruit flavor as it ages. We recommend storing this tea in one of our Tea Storage Tins to enjoy it throughout the next 1–2 years.

Oolong tea artisans, like boutique winemakers, bring forth the appellation characters of their teas through traditional crafting techniques. Each oolong tea’s distinctive style reflects its place of origin, vintage and tea bush cultivar.

This is a fun little tea – it’s a leaf hopper, and I always find those fascinating. This one is a nice balance between dark oolong (nutty, roasty, but not too mineral) and the honey sweetness of the hopper influence. Really happy to have had the chance to try this one. Thank you Ubacat for sending this my way.

Drinking this tea is like being enveloped in sheets of honey scented silk, suspended between two gracefully bowing flowering fruit trees. It overwhelms in pure nectar ambiance before dissipating into something more grounding and organic, like fresh nectarine pits drying in the humid shade of august.

Smooth and delightfully less intense in taste.

Refreshingly drinkable, a positive that allows its top notes to enjoy well deserved glory.

This oolong was my first and my inspiration to explore the rich world of tea.

I’m just not liking this tea and I think it’s because it’s too close to a black tea. It’s got that malty sweet jammy taste (like dates and honey). I think for someone who loves black teas they would really enjoy this tea. It’s supposed to be this rare tea only made in 10 days of the year in June in Taiwan. Sounds fabulous but it’s not working for me (even with 2 infusions). I like my light or grassy teas. This is a tea I need to add to the swap/sell list .
