Fuding Silver Needles is a heritage white tea from the coastal town of Fuding, a famous white tea producing region situated in mist-enshrouded mountainsides that overlook an estuary flowing to the sea. The savory quality in the white teas grown in Fuding is attributed to the maritime air and oceanic minerals and basalt content in the rich soil of these gardens. This special batch was harvested during the Mingqian season in early spring, when the most prized white teas of the year are made with the first tea buds that sprout in the new season. These big buds have a silvery-white down coating of sweet trichomes and are known to be highly stimulating and energetic because amino acids, caffeine and other tea nutrients are concentrated in the first flush buds of spring’s new growth. The result is a sublime and elegant balance of oceanic umami, soft spice notes of cassia, multi-florals and confectioners’ sugar.
Traditional Preparation
Add 4g-5g tea per 350-400ml (11-12oz) water into a glass teapot.
Use water cooled to 180°F.
Infuse for 3 minutes.
Repeat for another 3+ infusions. Increase the steeping time by 30 seconds with each additional infusion.
Tasting Notes
Cotton candy, soft spice, abalone, oceanic, umami and wildflowers
