Ceylon Dimbulla OP

Black Tea by SpecialTeas

Beautiful wiry leaves, a red-golden liquor and delicate chocolate-citrus notes are the character traits of this aromatic orange pekoe from the famous Dimbulla region. A smooth and complex, medium-strong tea of exceptional quality. Highly recommended both hot and iced.

I’ve never detected cocoa notes in a Ceylon before, but I’m definitely tasting them now. They aren’t as prominent as they would be in some of the yunnan blacks I’ve tasted, but it’s definitely present mixed in with a toasty sort of base-flavour and some slightly citrusy notes.

I’ve always considered Ceylon teas to be a bit ordinary and blah, but I’m really enjoying this particular one – it has character. I don’t think I’d advise taking this one with milk, but sugar or honey might be a nice addition – I’ll have to try it that way next time.

The problem with rationing tea is that no matter how much you want to save it eventually you have to drink or else it goes stale on you. This is the dilema I face with my teas from SpecialTeas; some of them, like this one, are very good, high quality teas with nothing to replace them with when they’re gone (Teavana doesn’t count – I refuse to buy from them). But I guess all good things have to come to an end sooner or later.

I’m drinking this tea with milk today and, while I think I prefer it plain ultimately, it’s fine this way as well. With some teas the milk will drown out the flavour but in this case I can still pick out the delicious citrus and cocoa notes.

This is not the usual lemony Ceylon. The description is correct. Very nice.

Just got my first order from SpecialTeas, and if this tea is any indication, I’ll be ordering from them often. The description is spot on: this tea is smoooth, with a distinct light cocoa flavor. Delicious.

My sample is now almost gone of this, and I just went to check SpecialTeas’ site for a steeping time and apparently they no longer sell it. Sad, because I really like this one. It’s smooth as silk with a very light cocoa taste. Not at all like most Ceylons.

Sadly, the last cup of a now apparently discontinued tea. Not getting the cocoa as much today. I think I’m going to have to make a SpecialTeas order today; my black tea stockpile is getting dangerously low. Looks like only about 10 or so half-full sample tins of Adagio blacks left. I’ve only tried a few of SpecialTeas’ blacks but I LOVE them, so I want to try more.
