Bagged Bonanza Morning #2 – Tea #4:

Muppetlove thanks for this one!

While searching for Chocolate Mint Oolong here on Steepster there is only ONE in the database! This is a surprise! MORE TEA COMPANIES NEED TO COME UP WITH CHOCOLATE MINT OOLONGS! The time is NOW, folks!

Eventho this is a bagged tea – this is darn tasty! These are those bagged gems I call treasures. Every once and a while you will find a bagged tea that makes your eyebrows raise like “The Rock”. This was one of those tea bags for me, I guess.

The senses were surely awakened by the flavor in this one! The minty-fresh POW followed a secondary flavor of chocolate…in this case they used a chocolate and carob combo. It works nicely. It’s rare if I ever say a flavored tea could do with LESS Chocolate…actually I doubt I have ever said that in my life…this one does have a good deal of mint but I would also welcome more chocolate.

BUT…overall for a bagged tea and a flavored oolong in a bag at that…I really like this!

Miss Sweet

With mint being such an overpowering beast, I think its difficult to blend sucessfully with other flavours. With this bagged oolong you get mostly mint, followed by a hint of chocolate on the back of your tongue. Probably the best out of the bagged Stash oolongs I’ve tried, the minty chocolate seems to work well with those strange mulched tea leaves. I really can’t imagine it working with a decent oolong though…

The dry tea bag smells very strongly of mint with a hint of chocolate. After steeping, it smells like a great dark chocolate bar or cocoa powder. The color is light brown, not very clear. It tastes lightly of mint with again just a hint of dark chocolate. I do like this, the taste is not overpowering and you can taste the oolong behind the flavors. I think this would be very good with milk and possibly a little sweetener.

This tea reminds me of Thin Mint Cookies…yum!

I have been holding onto the last bag of this tea for quite awhile now and while I wish I still had more, I realize that bags don’t last forever so I’m having this to make myself feel better after my White Rose fatiliTEA I experienced a few minutes ago. I brewed this tea up strong in order to add a splash of milk which makes it take like Thin Mint cookies. I really have enjoyed this tea, I’m a bit confused as to why Stash thought an oolong would work in a bag, not even a pyramid bag either. I also don’t get any of the notes that I have come to admire in dark oolongs, it just tastes like a plain black tea base. But that is okay, the tea base is only there to compliment the chocolate mint flavor anyway. Overall, great for a bagged tea. I don’t know if I will buy more, the only place I have seen this variety was at a specialty store and it was 20 bags for $5….a bit pricey for my tastes when you can buy other Stash teas at Walmart for less than $3 per 20 bags. It was good while it lasted though.

I had just about given up on tea for the day. Nothing was tasting quite how I wanted. This tea has just about saved the day. I pulled this out from the back of the tea drawer and added milk/pinch of sugar. This is what I have been needing all day and didn’t even know it. I only have a few more bags of this and I am sure going to miss it.

I decided to try this again with a bit of sweetener and milk. So good, almost dessert like. I think it is even better with milk than plain. The flavors are much more balanced with a 5 minute steeping time. I’m raising my rating just a bit because I like it so much better this time.

I was really wanting cookies tonight, but since I don’t have any, I decided to go with this tea as a guilt-free option. I added a packet of Splenda to this along with milk and it is by far the best preparation I have had. So cookie-like!! Yum!!

This has a pleasant aroma while brewing and tastes as good as it smells! The chocolate & mint medley is one of my favorite pairings so of course I would indulge in this low-cal dessert. I agree with others that the mint flavor is strong, almost overpowering the hint of chocolate. However, if you steep for five minutes or longer the chocolate taste lingers more. For a bagged tea this is pretty decent. It’s a great AM wake-up tea too!

Found this bag in my stash of work teas – It’s one of the few bagged teas I really enjoy, you just have to watch the water temp since it’s oolong. I love the subtle chocolate flavor and pop of mint at the end of the sip; it’s simply yummy!

I am at home with no loose tea but dealing with health insurance questions so tea is a must! Found this one and decided to go for it. I’m letting it steep as long as possible, out of curiosity. I like strong, bold teas and want to see how chocolate-y this can get. I am triple-dog-daring it to be more chocolate than mint. :)

Smells promising in the dry teabag. Brewed at 3 minutes and all I taste is mint. Brewed at 5 minutes and I am tasting mint with a faint hint of chocolate. It is a crime to trap an Oolong in a tea bag. Having said that, this is tasty for a bagged oolong.

Good flavor. I can taste both the mint and the chocolate, and yet neither overpower the tea.

While searching mint teas on the Stash site, I pondered over this one. Peppermint and chocolate sounded good, but in tea? So I settled for a little 10-pack (what the heck).

The tea smelled wonderful before brewing. The flavors in the brewed tea is lacking though. Peppermint is there, but only getting a hint of the chocolate. Will need to tweak this next time, but for now it’s not living up to what I expected.

Contains wuyi oolong tea, peppermint, chocolate flavor, cocoa powder, and carob powder. Doesn’t this just sound delicious? It’s like a York Peppermint Patty in a cup. Tearing open the envelope an sniffing I caught myself going, oh yeah! The aroma after brewing was, oh man! Took the first sip and, hey where did the flavor go? Added a little sweetener and Mmmm. Without the sweetener the tea flavor was far more pronounced but the chocolate seemed nonexistent. With the sweetener all the flavors blended and the peppermint added that icy blast I was hoping to get. For a typical Stash undersized bag this is seriously good.

The bag is probably 2 years old and only 1.6grams. The water was heated in the microwave. Together that is a recipe for flat weak tea. It was still chocolaty and minty but when it is fresh this is pretty tasty – or at least that’s the way I remember it. I am letting my rating stand due to the stale bag and assuming my earlier review was accurate.

I have been doing a lot of serious tea drinking for several days. Today as I sit here with my raspberry filled doughnut it just feels like a fun day (the boss is gone that helps). So I dug through my few remaining bags and found this one. It is actually pretty good on its own but today I steeped half a cup as a concentrate added some sweetener, and then poured it and some warm milk into the French press. Pumped a few times and a creamy goodness latte emerged. As the creaminess calmed down I added a bit of Diet Coke for the bite. Ok, the Coke was maybe a bad idea but it was still fun (I love chocolate milk and Coke). Of course now I have a bigger mess than usual to clean up. Oh how I suffer for my art.

I have an interesting relationship with Stash. My mother bought me a package of their Acai Berry tea at the beginning of my second year of undergrad and I enjoyed it on and off; so when, five months later, I really started getting into tea, I naturally chose Stash as my start point. I hadn’t realised, however, when I bought a pack of this, that oolong was a kind of camellia sinensis tea and thus had caffeine! When I found out I was somewhat turned off, since I was vehemently against caffeine at the time (and still try to limit my consumption), so the box was left to lament in my tea cupboard.

Fast forward to now when I’m searching for a quick tea to help stay up during crunch time and I tend to turn down bagged camellia sinensis tea, and I think, what the hell, let’s try it.

The bag smells just like girl guide cookies. It really, really does. The chocolate is a bit light, but it’s the exact same kind of minty chocolate smell as girl guide cookies. Once brewed the smell isn’t quite as strong, but still quite nice. I have to say that I was really dubious about this because I just don’t go for bagged tea unless it’s by Pukka or a herbal tea these days, but I found myself enjoying this. The taste isn’t quite qirl guide cookies, but it has a rounded mouthfeel and I found myself drinking it quickly. I might even make another cup before the night’s over.

So I maaaay have spoken too soon with my first note: I brewed up another cup of this and got drastically different results, not on an improvement. So this will likely end up being a very hit and miss tea for me.

This did remind me of Thin Mints or York Peppermint Patties. The flavor is more mint than chocolate. But I don’t know what kind of oolong is supposed to be here. I like it though.

I absolutely love this. Tastes like a little piece of heaven for me. There’s even a bit of powder left in the wrapper, that if you lick the wrapper, tastes AMAZING. (I know I’m weird.)

Not really chocolatey, but minty and tasty.

I was really excited about this tea when I ordered a weight loss taster set online. I’ve tried a few chocolate tea over the past year however, this was the first with mint. As soon as i opened the pack I could smell the sweet smell of mint chocolate which proved promising, the flavor of the tea was good; the oolong worked well, the mint was powerful but sweet and the chocolate although just a hint was really nice. With a little agave this satisfied my sweet tooth.

(This is from last night, so I actually had kind of a Stash day yesterday!)

This tea is a hit in my household! I really love how the flavours complement each other in this one. When we made it for supper this time, though, with one bag in a large pot, the chocolate and mint flavours came out but the oolong was a bit subdued. There’s more balance when you steep as instructed. Overall, though, another winner from Stash!

Ok, as always I find stash teas too weak.
That aside choc-mint is a good tea. Make a small cup, leave the tea bag and be a bit heavy handed on the milk = a decent chocolate mint treat. :)

Opening the envelope, taking out the bag, is like removing the lid of a box of chocolates. Hmmm…. haven’t tried this with milk before…. “More calcium!” I think, as I splash soymilk into my steaming cup. It turns out to be just as good, maybe even better, than without.

Refreshing and particularly delicious with half a spoon of sugar (if your charge is willing to spare any.) I find it gets slightly murky at the bottom, so it’s best to stir periodically.
