Not unlike some the mystical tea terroirs of the world like the province of Yunnan known for it’s Pu’er tea or the Assam region of India known for its famous malty black teas, Taiwan also has its own indigenous wild tea plant known as Shancha (mountain tea).
This is possibly the easiest black tea to drink in our selection. It is very distinctive and unique in taste. There’s nothing bold or brash about this tea, we are not in the same range as powerful assams. This is a subtle charming tea, yet extremely satisfying, with a good body and with surprising stamina! The taster will be greeted with a pleasant aroma of baked oats with buttered sweetness and a discreet floral note of wild rose will charm the nose as soon as the leaves are heated by the boiling water. This is where we recognize the Taiwanese signature of this tea in its expressive aromatics. The liqueur is all smoothness with very light refreshing tartness. The taste is all pleasant and round with evocations of pastries and baked sweets with fruit compote notes similar to japanese white peaches. What surprises the palate is the inviting suppleness of this tea that makes you want to drink cup after cup after cup. If black is not your usual cup, this is the tea that will convert you! This is a must try tea!

Taiwan Tea Craftsmmmmm man. I really am loving these teas from taiwan tea crafts. They all seem to be of that juicy variety (the non aged, blacks anyway) which is great to have in my cupboard. While i love the malty dark teas like LB and others, sometimes it’s enjoyable to have the other variety when you need a taste of sunshine in your mouth :) This one has almost savory? notes in the background which help offset the juiciness a little while still being a fantastic cup of tea.

Now I’m enjoying this one, following the same parameters I set earlier today for the TTC teas: 1 rounded tsp in my 4 oz porcelain pot, 3/4/& 5 min steeps.
All 3 cups have been delicious, stone-fruity, a little pastry-like, & with a hint of coriander, & a slight floral quality.
I also like pulling weeds, haha. There’s something therapeutic about it.

It was about 75 Fahrenheit, a near perfect temp!
BTW, the actual Perfect Temperature is 77 Degrees Fahrenheit

The brewed tea is stronger than many oolongs, and reminds me quite a bit of a good single-estate Darjeeling. This is a really interesting and satisfying tea.

And the taste is quite divine! Wow. Seriously, wow. I better not dump those leaves by mistake because I need to get a few resteeps out of this. It tastes really juicy and fruity and, like Sil said, just a little savoury too. It’s complex. Each sip is a little different but they are all SO juicy. OMG.
I nearly broke my finger trying to hit the rec button. (slight exaggeration)
ETA: The resteep was quite nice but the end of that cup felt a little salty almost. So careful on the resteeps!
ok I see, TTC are juicy teas without any astringency :)
I’ve really enjoyed them too. They all have a sweet fruitiness!
