Tazo – why? Why would you bag this stuff? I don’t care the other reviewers apparently liked this, it is just gross. It smells like perfumey rose powder or toilet water.

This is a new herbal tea from Tazo. I found it in, of all places, my local grocery store, which only carries teabags. I’d love to find it in whole leaf, because this is a delighful herb tea.

The odor when the bag is opened is overpowering and sickly sweet – roses on steroids. The tea when brewed is much mellower – the rose is still present, but I get lots of citrus notes, and a mild sweetness. This tea is made with honeybush, so it seemed unlikely that it would need sweetening, and it does not. A very pleasant cup for evening, or for when your life needs a little more rosiness.

Tazo has its generic brewing instructions on back – 5 minutes in water at boiling temp. It might be worth experimenting with a lower temperature, especially as this is bagged tea and should extract fairly easily.

Tazo and I have had a pretty shaky relationship in the past. I really love the chai latte, matcha latte, and the brambleberry iced tea. Their bagged teas have been quite a miss on me. I think I would have liked the earl grey; if I liked earl grey at all! So I have been wanting a nice bunch of herbal teas. I have been liking floral flavors more recently so when I saw this on sale I grabbed it.
The tea bag smell is STRONG. It punches you in the face and doesn’t ask twice about who it’s targeting. The steeped tea is much lighter and has more of a lemon tint to it. mmmm
I finally got to take a sip and you know what? Not too bad. I don’t think this could possibly be an every day tea for me. But for a late night soother it might just do the trick. Or you could do what I’m tempted to and stick it in the bath! :p lol

I just realized what this would be good for! A palate cleanser. It really hits the high parts of the palate and it doesn’t linger too long. It also just has that “clean” type of taste. Very interesting.

Now,
I have liked tea my whole life; being that I grew up on it. But I never particularly liked the relaxing types. They never really gave me much satisfaction.
My mother is always having me try new kinds of relaxation teas because of my major panic attacks and serious anxiety.
While browsing through Target while my mother shopped for Christmas gifts, I stumbled upon the tea isle (more like, looked EVERYWHERE for it) and saw this pretty pink box.
I read the ingredients and decided to give it a try.
Two cups later, I am relaxed and ready for bed (For once).
At first, I admit, It smelled a little strong and medicine-y. But once brewed it smells like herbs and lemon!
The taste is amazing as well- you can taste the citrus, but there is also the hint of rose.
Definitely a tea to drink to relax before bed :)

Love, love this blend…and am dismayed to hear from Starbucks that it has been discontinued….any one know how to find the proportions so I could blend my own? Suppliers? Thanks

Ok, when I first brewed this cup, I was reading Steepster reviews, now I’ve signed up and I’m writing one, lol. This tea has a citrus taste, and a very subtle aftertaste that is pleasant. Suddenly, I’m very relaxed, and thinking of lying it down for the night. It reminds me of tension tamer, but not as strong. The results are very similar. This is def a good tea for me to drink at 11:30 so I don’t stay up until 3am. Paired w/ a bath or shower, this is def a relaxing tea. Two cups may be a good idea for those who have anxiety at night. This also seems like a good tea for meditation.

So, its the next morning and I’m back, lol. I fell asleep within 30min of drinking ‘The Rest’. This may be my nightly bed routine from here out. I slept a full 8 hours, and I don’t feel as groggy this morning.

I just picked this up at Target yesterday. I had two cups before bed last night and it did seem to help me fall asleep faster. It didn’t make me super drowsy or anything so I’ve decided to try a cup this afternoon just to relax. I really like the flavor as-is. Lemon is what stands out the most for me, but I can still taste and smell the rosesMy guess would be that if you don’t like Earl Grey you will not like this tea, as the flavors are pretty similar IMO.

The trick with this tea, in order to make it taste good you have t steep it in less than boiling water, otherwise you’ll get that raw sewage taste from the Vlerian I’m guessing. It makes me sleepy.

Tazo Rest has a slightly sweet and mellow flavor. This blend is not acidic like many herbal teas that are caffeine free and described as citrisy. Chamomile tea has never had a relaxing or sedative effect on me. Plus, I find the chamomile flavor deadly dull. I’ve had a difficult time finding this tea and read this flavor has been disconinued.

Soothing, smooth flavor. Gently floral, not overpowering even though I walked away and forgot about it as it steeped. I mostly taste rose, lemon, and the smallest hint of orangey licorice. It’s deliciously delicate & after a sip or two I feel rather dozy. Perfect for unwinding before bed!

i was really intrigued by tazo rest, as it combines rose, one of my favs, and valerian, a sleep aid. i’m always on the look out for something to help me unwind.

this tisane fell a little short. i think the smell is its biggest asset, which was a lovely, clean rose aroma. the taste left something to be desired, however. i prefer a thicker, full-bodied taste, and this was very bland, no matter how long i steeped it. i felt like i was drinking floral water. it’s not bad, but definitely not something i’d reach for if something else was available.

as far as it’s calming effects, eh, not really. the smell does make you feel a little more comfy, but nothing a good chamomile can’t provide.

this being said, i believe the main calming component is the valerian, which has never worked very well for me. from reading other reviews valerian seems to work like a dream for some people, so if you have no experience with it, you might want to give it a try (although, if you’re looking for something with valerian, i’d probably try something like sleepytime extra first). but if you’re like me and valerian and chamomile don’t seem to cut it, try something with kava or tulsi in it.

I’ve had a hard time finding a good bedtime tea because they all have chamomile in them and I’m allergic to chamomile. I’ve really been enjoying this herbal infusion- it tastes good and is nice and relaxing. My kids also really love it.

I have had trouble going to sleep, and read Rest has Valerian Root, so I decided to give it a shot. It smells really flowery but it tastes pretty good after a splash of agave nectar. Now I shall see if I sleep better tonight.

This is a beautiful tea, I read the ingredient list and had to try it. Very glad I did, I love roses and the valerian will help me to sleep. Pleased with the additional ingredients as well, very pleasant surprise.

To be fair, I have a sniffy nose and have had a slightly crappy day.
However, I’m not overly impressed with the slightly herbed-bread smell I’m getting from the tea. The lemon is definitely there. So is the heavy floral hit.
There’s a feet-y smell in my basement office, though, so that’s probably contributing to my overall experience.
It tastes much better than it smells. The flowers that were overpowering when I smelled it sort of turn into dancing little taste fish and flicker across my tongue. It’s got a pretty nice body to it, too. Not as full as a rooibos, but not without some weight.
This isn’t a tea I’d brew myself if I was thinking, “Gee, I could sure use a tea right now,” but it’s perfect for working in the evening.
A tea I can brew, sip and forget about.
But again: sniffy nose; crappy day.
