From Tazo

You don’t have to take up residency in a monastery to benefit from our rejuvenating green tea blend infused with crisp notes of spearmint, lemongrass, and lemon verbena. But we highly recommend trekking to a mountaintop sanctuary at least once—the views are breathtaking.

I have a cold so I’m avoiding milk for a few days, therefore, green tea.

This is an ok bagged green tea for work when dealing with whole leaves and exact water temperature is impractical.

Happily for me, the spearmint is not a dominant flavor but just hangs out in the back, giving a light cooling feeling. The lemongrass is minimal, but noticeable if looked for. It does mute that “boiled hay” taste grocery store, bagged greens tends to have.

Adding honey really helped too.

To me, this just has a grass/straw scent and taste. Maybe it’s due to the sinus infection that I have, but I don’t get any mint or lemon out of it. Just a pleasant, but bland grass tea. I’ll try it again after the sinus infection clears up.

Next in line from mom’s tea cabinet. I’ve had this one before, it’s a decent, solid green tea blend. I’m normally not a huge fan of blends, but this one is OK. Hints of grass and wet straw almost overwhelm the green tea flavor, but it’s still a good mix. Nice and tasty.

And, as the name intends, it is certainly quite soothing. Zen indeed.

Having no strainer around, I decided to go for the bagged stuff and drank this “Zen” blend.
Unsurprisingly this is a sad, bland cuppa. It is indeed “zen” as one will not experience any strong reaction to this tea but rather be soothed by the taste of verbena.

Zingy, a feeling of light pressure against gum line of top front teeth, green in middle of tongue which in the finish rolls into the back of the tongue and meets the throat with a sweet green taste… Sort of like the four leaf greens or clover greens we ate as kids when out walking.

Yellow around the top half of the mouth as a point longer into the finish.

It has a general sweetness when you sip and it’s a little cooler. The sweet green again wraps around the back of the tongue but also the rear portion of the sides of it, more forward than the finish a bit.

The lemongrass is certainly noticeable and puts that pleasantly unbalanced feel to the taste

Mildly astringent.

It’s pretty good for an off the shelf bag tea. Something I’d pick if that was the best of the options in the supermarket sort of good. Not something I’d want in my collection if I was able to have one again right now.

A pretty good supermarket tea.

Tazo Zen is a decent enough green tea. Flavours of mint and lemon blend nicely however it does become a bit astringent if over-steeped. It is quite soothing if prepared properly.

I actually agree with my previous log! It’s a nice flavored green tea at this price point…much better than Tazo’s Organic Peachy Green. Give it a try, I’d say :)

Pre-Taste – It’s vapor gives a cooling sensation when inhaled. A very mellow scent. Minty, with a little bit of herbs. Light brown, dark yellow, however you look at it. Looks like a standard green tea.

Taste – When you take a sip the first noticed flavor is a medium strength mint. It begins to fade away after you swallow and fades into a light green tea flavor. The flavor is very smooth.

Mood – With a small amount of caffeine, and the warmth in your stomach after drinking it, you are left feeling calm, and focused. It’s no wonder it’s called Zen.

Overall I enjoyed it, but I would not consider it a go-to tea.
