Sweet Cinammon Spice

Tea by Tazo

Tazo® Sweet Cinnamon Spice is made with sweet, warm tasting cinnamon from Southeast Asia, blended with creamy sarsaparilla root from India and South America and licorice root from Turkey. The result is a remarkably rich, sweet, and decadent brew that, amazingly, contains no caffeine.

Ingredients: Cinnamon bark, sarsaparilla root, licorice root, orange peel, roasted chicory root, natural flavors and star anise seed.

Meghann M sent me a couple of bags of this about two days after I had picked up the box at the store, seriously considered it, and put it back. Thanks, Meghann!

I’m very, very glad that I got to try this first. It’s not for me. I’m not sure if it’s the licorice, or the sarsaparilla, or the anise. But there’s just something there that isn’t doing it for me. I’m not even sure I’ll finish this cup, let alone the pot.

Yeah, no. I’m making something else now.

(backlogging this from last week)…

My sister sent me this, and I finally got around to trying it. As a general rule, I do not get along with herbal teas and this one was tastier than most but still, I’m not a fan. I don’t like anise in teas and it was VERY strong in this blend. I can see a lot of people really enjoying this, because it does have a decent flavour, but even with the strong anise it’s still too “twiggy” (herbal) for me.

Received this from a friend—and to be honest, I don’t really like it. It has a really weird aftertaste.
I’d much rather have ‘Hot Cinnamon Sunset’ from Harney and Sons.

My mum got this recently, so I snuck a bag. I’m not really sure where they think the tea is, but this is a pleasant enough group of spices. A bit weak for my taste, and easily drowned by sugar, but still decent. I just don’t particularly love or hate it, so I haven’t got an opinion either way (which may be saying something in and of itself). Maybe I’ll try it with milk later; it was yummy with my cinnamon granola + yogurt parfait!

Was out of town and tealess for a few days. Back now.

Actually, I wasn’t completely tealess. I did have a Peet’s darjeeling from the gift shop at Asilomar state park. The other times I tried to have tea at the event I went to I was foiled in my attempts by a lack of hot water. There were plenty of Bigelow’s and Lipton’s bags, just never any water in the urn by the time I got my cup over to it.

Anyhoo. This is a strange little tisane. The cinnamon, as I’m finding is usual when it’s an ingredient, is very obvious, but there’s also another equally strong, and somewhat rounder taste which I’m going to say is licorice owing to the licorice root and star anise ingredients, with perhaps some rootbeer thrown in from the sarsaparilla. I don’t notice the orange peel at all. The combination of the two main flavors results in a cinnamon that is sweet rather than spicy, and a licorice/rootbeer that is spicy rather than sweet.

I don’t usually think of pairing cinnamon with licorice. Licorice is such a strong flavor, I don’t really think of pairing it with anything. And I have a sort of a like/hate relationship with it. If I’m in the mood for it I enjoy it, but I never find myself thinking “wow, some licorice would be really great right now, it would really hit the spot.” Sometimes it can affect me badly, and give me a bit of a tummy ache. I’ve been giving this one a try on and off for a month or so now. Though it would never be something I would drink daily or even regularly, I can see it being something I’d dip into occasionally, probably more in the cooler months than in the spring-like weather I’m enjoying today.

This tea was not the best. It had a weird taste to it and the aftertaste was horrible. It is substantially better when you add milk to it but only because it drowns out the flavor. I do not recommend this.

Not my cup of tea. Not sure what it is…maybe the licorice root or the star anise? Normally I LOVE herbal teas and I love teas with cinnamon, but this tea isn’t doing it for me. I’ve tried it hot, I’ve had it iced, I’ve added sugar, I’ve tried it with various flavors of honey; still this tea does not live up to my expectations. Will not be buying this tea again.

I purchased this a few months back, and was quite eager to try it. It is, undoubtedly, the worst tea I have ever had. The smell alone gave me a headache, and it did not taste appealing to me (couldn’t taste the cinnamon at all). I imagine this is what paint tastes like. I was a bit surprised upon discovering that the culprit is sarsaparilla, after noticing the same horrid smell/taste in another type of tea (a hibiscus blend) I purchased recently. Sarsaparilla root was the only ingredient the two had in common.)

Not one of my favorites… the cinnamon is overpowering. I keep avoiding the box in my cupboard.

I tried this tea at a little coffee cart in Spokane during First Night to keep me warm. It was sooo good. My mom even commented on how good it smelled. Lots of flavors, and an interesting sweet aftertaste. However, I haven’t been able to find this tea in stores, so I haven’t been able to try it since.

This was pretty good! I drank it on a cold day and the spices were nice and warming. It was a little bitter, but I think I might have steeped it for too long. It smells amazing.

I honestly don’t know if I like this tea or not. I keep drinking it, however. I’m usually wary of cinnamon teas because they tend to coat the back of my throat with a sickly sweet taste. This one does that but I don’t find it so awful. The smell is incredible and it does leave me feeling particularly warm and cozy.

One of the best teas ever. I’ll have to wait to say more another time.
