Feeling a little groggy this morning so I tried this out in hopes that it would give me a bit of a wake-up. The smell of the tea make me think of some sort of scented cleaner – something about the smell of the lemongrass and the ginger together I think.

I was bracing myself for something toxic-tasting, but thankfully this tea didn’t deliver that. The ginger is probably the most prominent taste wrapped up with a bit of indistinct lemoniness. It isn’t too overpowering although that might be because of the low steeping temp to used. The green tea is pretty well hidden although I get it at the end of each sip. Overall this tea does has a nice refreshing quality though it’s also a bit drying on the mouth. It’s a decent enough drink, though not something I’d buy a box of I don’t think.

Egads, I am starting to think I will remain ill forever! So, here I am, prepared. Ginger snaps, tea, and Alan Moore’s Black Dossier by my side. Scoured my parents’ tea for something to drink whilst ill, and this was it. If I had more energy, maybe I’d even call this my “excited” mode.

By this point, I have probably killed the tea. I dunked two fairly large chunks of young Australian ginger into this steep, just to make it all the better for my sickness, and two large spoonfuls of honey. Needless to say, it is pretty delicious now. But when I tasted the tea beforehand, I was not so impressed, nor did I taste the pear. Considering I can barely smell at the moment, this may not be saying much. Primarily, I think of this as a green tea before all else. Perhaps it needs a shorter steep and lower temperature, but I won’t go into all that now. For now, I will soak it all up and sleep!

I received a box of this in a swap. I like a hint of ginger, but I’m not a great fan of lots of ginger…like I love a snowflake floating by the window but I don’t like getting smacked in the face with a snowball. The ginger smell hit me like a snowball. It continued while steeping, so I cut the steeping time a little short in fear that it would just be too overwhelming. Luckily I was pleasantly surprised when I tasted it. I taste the lemongrass and the ginger, kind of a peppery taste, but not the green tea so much. And the pear seems to be afraid of the ginger, it’s hiding pretty well. Maybe a little pear in the aftertaste, a faint finish.

The box is interesting reading, all about good karma. They claim this tea is yin, yang and yow – the yin being the green tea, the yang the ginger, and the yow the pear. I would call this a basically yang tea. I will drink this again, but I doubt I will get more after this is finished. I do want to try it iced, I may change the rating then.

Ginger is great to have when feeling nauseous. Tazo’s Green Ginger is especially good, with the ginger taking a nice focus.

Based on the other reviews, i’m mildly convinced my taste buds are retarded. (or maybe i haven’t tried enough tea)
Either way, i particularly enjoy this tea when i’m leaving for school in a pinch and don’t have time to steep a loose batch. I also have a longterm love affair with ginger in general, so perhaps there is the inherent issue. I drink tea straight, and this is mild and pleasant with a slow burn/heat (perfect for chilly weather)
highly recommended for mindless sipping during the morning commute (perfectly paired with an ipod and a smile)

I enjoy ginger, as long as it is not the pickled ginger you get with sushi, blegh, but fresh ginger, I enjoy very much. This smells like artificial ginger, very aromatic and sweet for no good reason. The smell is strong in the bag, for this reason I did an unreasonably fast steep (about a minute counting pouring the water into my cup). The aroma is even stronger in the brewed cup, which was what I feared. The flavor is green with a soothing burst of ginger as an aftertaste. Unfortunately, the aroma made the tea quite unenjoyable.

Yucky :( I couldn’t even taste the tea! The ginger was overpowering. Sad tea night.

I want to like Tazo. I really do. I want Starbuck’s to do for tea what it did for coffee but I think Tazo is more concerned with appearing all hip and mystically rather than concentrating on the important stuff, the tea. My opinion – your image isn’t whimsical its just dumb.

As for this tea, it smells like medicine. Reading other reviews here, I was unaware the natural flavors listed on the label meant pear. That probably explains my dislike of the smell. The taste reminds me of incense. Now in my incense burning days I might have liked that image. Today, not so much. The lemongrass, ginger, and ‘natural flavors’ blend together well enough but overwhelm the tea base which is probably sencha. It isn’t totally disgusting. It’s just not interesting enough for me to want again.

When I think of ginger I think of Vernors Ginger Ale. One of the oldest American soft drinks still in production. Barrel aged for three years. It used to be aged for longer but the company has traded hands a few times and changed some to remain competitive. It still is highly carbonated but nothing like it used to be when it came in glass bottles. I believe it was impossible to drink without the bubbles making you cough – in a glorious good way. Even in its present shadow of its former self it still stands miles above Canada Dry and Seven Up. Love it or hate it, this is a classic.

That’s what I want Starbuck’s to do for tea. Make it a fine vintage drink to be proud of and not some quirky unsatisfying half hearted attempt at tea. Make it worth my nearly $2/cup. Make the tea great and you won’t have to hide it in a gimmicky box.

I just submitted a review of this tea to the Tea Review Blog, although, like before, I don’t know when it will be published.

I really like this tea – it is very good, especially given that it’s a bagged tea. The ginger is warm but not overly spicy, and there is a pleasant fruit note to it that gives it an agreeable balance. It is one that I look forward to serving iced too – it doesn’t lose its flavor as it cools.

Thoroughly enjoyed this tea. Good blend of ginger and the green tea and the two flavors complement each other to produce a great tasting tea.

“Natural flavors” does not constitute “pear”. Whatever, I’m picky about what’s on the back of the box. I don’t even taste pear, anyway.

I’ll only drink this one iced. It’s refreshing when its cold and reminds me of a Dark ‘n Stormy (Gosling’s dark rum, Gosling’s or Saranac ginger beer, ginger and lime simple syrup, wedge of lime). If you haven’t tried one, please do. I might just try and make one with this tea.

If you drink this warm, there’s something about it that’s off-putting. The ginger is too faint and there’s too much emphasis lemongrass. Its got a bergamot intensity when it should be crisp and clean. Ginger is light and has a zing to it, its not oily and deep, like this tea makes it. Hence, why I ice it; it calms down and is sweet and clean.

Like a lot of the other reviews, I drink this usually when I am feeling sick. It has a decent ginger flavor. This is by no means a good quality tea. But it is drinkable for those sick days when you don’t want to be wasting your high quality teas.

I went to Starbucks on my way to my sisters to fix her computer. I was sick on a cold winters day and need aid in this trek. Ginger is good for your health as green tea. So I made a purchase and headed on my way. I did add a packet or two of honey to it before leaving (later I tried it without). It soothed my soar throat and warmed me up. I enjoyed it so much I continued to drink it through the winter.

The flavor of the liquor was not bold (the ginger) but pleasant to the pallet. The liquor has a nice color of a golden pear.

Smells good, tastes good, very Chinesey and would go well with milder tasting Chinese food. Flavors are balanced without becoming muddy. A keeper.

Had a dark yellow liquor. The smell was immediately pear and ginger. The actual tastes ranged from hints of pear to ginger and smacks of black pepper.

The tea is hot and spicy in a green tea fashion. All things considered, they could have made the pear flavor more obvious. Definitely wasn’t my favorite of the Tazo line-up. But a nice tea and not to be overlooked.

Before diving completely into the wonderful world of loose leaf tea, this had become my favorite of the bagged teas. It has been a while since enjoying this tea. I have grown substantially, in both knowledge and practice, on my tea preparation and consumption. Hopefully, I still enjoy this as much as I had before.

There is still an overwhelming joy I get when opening the cover to reveal the subtle and delicious scents of ginger and pear. Because it is a bagged tea, the aroma is light. It is also as bright as I remembered.

Steeping brings out the spice to the ginger, a very soothing and reassuring aroma from a very soothing and reassuring light green color.

The flavor is still subtle, with a slight kick of the ginger. It is not as strong as I had remembered, but familiar brightness and a subtle sweetness come and go.

I wouldn’t say this is disappointing, as my views have not changed significantly. I have found other bagged teas that give much greater flavor and more dimension. Yet, this tea still plays on my soft heart.

The first time I tasted this, I think I steeped it a bit too much and didn’t sweeten it right. So this is my second try I had it this morning after breakfast.

Color: It’s a nice medium green with yellow undertones.

Taste: It’s got the same smooth flavor of green tea with a definite hint of ginger and pear. The ginger is strong, but good strong. And the pear is light and flavorful. I happened to really love it, even though it was simple.

I re-visited this one yesterday, and liked it, though I overdid the sugar/honey factor.

With about one spoonful of sugar, a drop of honey, and 2 minutes steep time, this gives a nice, gingery taste with a pear kick, mainly in the aftertaste. It’s very good, kind of light, definitely a tea best for a refresh. Milk actually goes well with it, and may help lessen the pear for those who think it is a bit too much. Just don’t over do the sugar! :-)

This has to be one of the most awkward smelling and tasting tea I have ever tried to date. I was imagining an explosion of fresh flavours – ginger and lemongrass with a touch of pear – when I bought this tea but was sorely disappointed. The ginger tasted stale and flat, not spicy and vibrant as you would have expected. The lemongrass, surprisingly, perpetuated the unpleasant taste and did nothing to lift the flavour of the tea. Did not notice any hint of pear, even after drinking three cups just to make sure that I hate this tea enough to dump the entire box into the trash.

Wanted something light, and refreshing today. Ginger never lets me down.

Yum.

Giving up coffee & trying to reduce my caffeine levels for the month of January. Wanted something that would ensure I didn’t get a caffeine headache, but wouldn’t continue the nasty cycle. A cup of this sounded like that happy medium.
