From Tea Trekker

  • Anhui Province, China
  • Basket-fired to a rare “yellow tea”
  • Flat needle leaf style
  • Bright, crisp Eastern China green flavor
  • Grassy, fresh aroma
  • Golden liquor tinges pale green

Another incredible tea from Huo Shan county in Anhui Province. This tea is comprised of a bud with one tiny leaf. The leaf is covered with a fuzzy down, a trait of this tea bush cultivar and the nature of the leaf. Huo Shan Yellow Sprouting brews a lovely pale golden green color in the cup, and the flavor is slightly warm, nutty and reminiscent of artichokes or chestnuts. These tea gardens, located on Jin Shan Tou, are not positioned at a high elevation – just around 2,500 feet. But the location is rocky, and gives the tea a yen character. The richness of the soil is evident in the buttery flavor.

Steep 2-3 infusions at 2 minutes each.
Water temperature should be 160° – 170° F

Experience buying from Tea Trekker http://steepster.com/places/2820-tea-trekker-online-northampton-massachusetts

During the spring of 2011 I ordered eight teas from Tea Trekker: three 2010 green teas, one 2011 green tea, one 2010 yellow tea, and three black teas (with one free 2011 green tea sample thrown in). I finished all of the green and yellow teas by the end of 2011.

This was my first yellow tea. At the time it tasted pretty much like a green tea to me. I liked it. I still don’t exactly know what to expect from a yellow tea, so no numerical rating.

This tea has a very light, nutty flavor that is very smooth and delicate. Yellow tea is processed in a way that allows the tea leaves to reabsorb lost flavor, and you can definitely taste that in this tea.
