Sweetie Pie Rooibos

Rooibos Tea by Tealish

The natural sweetness of premium rooibos provides a perfect base for decadent pieces of almond and coconut. This blend has an intoxicating aroma and a sweet creamy taste reminiscent of amaretto.

Tea no.6 of the Tealish experiment:

The name should be AMARETTO Pie…Yerk, this one is not for me… My entire fault, shouldn’t have ordered it, the description did mention Amaretto. Though it might sound contradictory, I love true almond flavor but somehow I’m not a fan of anything Amaretto. Does it make any sens?

In this tea, I think the Amaretto flavor comes from one of those small bottles of artificial almond extract you put in cake. A few drops are OK in a whole cake, but a cup of it is too much for me!

So I can’t rate it, since I usually don’t appreciate this kind of flavor. On a positive note, it has lots of coconut in it, so if you are a fan of strong Amaretto taste, I guess it mixes well with coconut and you would probably enjoy it.

I taste none of the other ingredients, the Rooibos is lost in that overpowering almond essence.

I think my next Tealish testing will be a more pleasant one for my tastes. Creamy Cranberry. Does sound yummy :)

This tea is fantastic! It totally tastes like a hot cup of amaretto. It’s one of my favourite dessert teas, as the tea is quite sweet. The almond and coconut comes through in the taste quite magnificently, though the almond flavour is a lot stronger. Smells delicious too!

There’s a woody taste underlying every sip of this tea (the rooibos I’m sure), and its marzipan flavouring is very heavy. I’m afraid I don’t taste the coconut at all, which is unfortunate. I’ve tried this hot and cold, and find it better cold.

I think I’ll have to do a bit of experimenting mixing this with other teas to try to make it more drinkable and balance out the artificial almond taste.

I decided to try this one again, but with some alterations. I added a bit of dried ginger and 4 cardamom pods to the tisane, and I think it helped. I’m still getting a bit of a fake almond taste, but it’s not nearly as strong as before. The spices help to balance it out a bit. Still no coconut flavour, though. Maybe I’ll add some coconut next time.

Really, it was gross. I did not enjoy this at all. Did not finish the cup. The flavours were not balanced and coconut did not come out except as a sour taste.
