Creamy Nut Oolong

Oolong Tea by Teaopia

This high grade Chinese Oolong contains apple pieces, caramel bits, almond pieces, safflower, sunflower, mallow flower and natural aromas. This delicious Oolong is a nut lover’s delight. The natural inherent nuttiness of the Chinese Oolong combined with the addition of almonds and caramel make this tea a must try. Great for multiple infusions, infuse the first cup for under one minute, and the second and third infusions at 1.5 minutes.

First of all I want to thank Kittenna for generously sharing some with me. I really REALLY wanted to try it as it sounded SO very yummy. HOWEVER … I can’t stand it.
I feel bad because it was so nice of Kit to share with me but for some reason it is very off putting to me.
It seems to be a love it REALLY love it or really dislike it tea.
To me it tastes and smells like dirty gym socks.
I don’t like sounding mean but I have to be honest.
I feel like telling the tea “its not you its me”.

Picked up my Teaopia order from Purolator today because apparently they wanted a signature (boo!) But…. I got it! Yay! Starting off with the tea I was most excited about, based on Steepster reviews. The other teas are mostly herbals for icing.

In the bag, this one smells quite caramelly and nutty. Just like dessert! Mmmmmm… It’s pretty similar when steeped, with a bit of a woody aroma (bark, stick-like??). Maybe that’s the oolong? The flavour is pretty bang on though, nutty and creamy, with a lovely aftertaste of oolong. I know this one’s loaded with artificial flavour, but I’m really liking it! Yay Steepsterites for good reviews that convinced me to buy this tea! Yum… definitely want another cup of this tonight. I feel like this is a good one to curb those dessert cravings.

ETA: Oh creamy nut oolong, there is just something about you that is so freaking delicious. Second infusion loses a bit, but is still hitting the mark for me. 2 minute infusion at 90C this time. Yum. I’m not sure the creamy nut flavour will last for a third, just the woody oolong base, I’m suspecting. (Got a good half third infusion and fourth infusion.)

I discovered that this one takes to a thermos quite well, so it had been added to the morning rotation. Luckily I still think that DavidsTea’s Salted Caramel and this tea actually taste eerily similar, so I suspect I can replace this with DT’s version once my bag is done (although I think this is one tea that Teavana did keep in their Canadian stores when they bought out Teaopia). Anyways, deeeeeelicious.

Nutty and good, but not as good cold. Second infusion (2:30/90C) also tasting too weak, like Pot O’ Gold. Maybe my taste buds just want something stronger. (Aroma though? Heavenly.) Up to four good infusions :) [Backlog from yesterday evening.]

Mmmmm. Haven’t had this in a while. Smells pretty much the same as I remember (creamy, nutty goodness), and tastes similarly too. My only complaint is that I find it a little weak (I used 2 heaping-ish tsp for my ~8 oz. cup and am still saying this…). I still have noted down somewhere to compare this to Salted Caramel from DavidsTea, which although it is a black, has similar flavouring, and I seem to recall liking it just as much or more.

Anyways, still a yummy tea with a bit of lingering oolong flavour at the end. I’m a bit chilly though, so wish I hadn’t let ALL my teas cool while working away on stats on my computer…

I got some of this thanks to Kittenna! It smells do yummy while brewing. It was actually cool enough to do some hot brewing yesterday and this morning do I took advantage while I could!
At first sip, this seemed to me like something a coffee drinker might enjoy, though it is lighter than coffee. It’s nutty and desserty with a sweet profile. Quite nice. While this is nicely done, it’s not my favorite nutty sweet tea. Perhaps the darker oolong base is working against my taste buds. The base is roasty and adds to the nuttiness, but it’s not too interesting.

On an unrelated note, I’m hungry. :(

I got this one from tattooed_tea, It wasnt what i expected the caramel overpowers it to me, I think it should be named Caramel Oolong but OMG it’s so so good, i was impressed, Thank you so much I hope you are enjoying yours teas as much as I am this one.

I am really enjoying this one, i enjoy it best with a little sweetener while eating something salty, I ate salty pretzel chips with it and found it most delightful.

I may have steeped this a bit too long, so keep that in mind. I’ll try again later and adjust the rating as needed. Long and the short of this? I love the tail end of this tea. The initial taste makes me scrunch up me face bu the after taste that it leaves behind is a really nice nutty, creamy taste.

I’ve been drinking this lovely tea all day! Dry, it smells nutty with sweet caramel notes, so I had high hopes for it to taste as good as it smells. This tea delivers! It has a gorgeous, nutty scent and flavour. Mildly sweet, a warm and soothing brew – not too strong, not too weak; just right!
I made it exactly to the directions, brewed it for 4mins at just under 90 degrees temperature. I see from the post that you can brew multiple infusions from it, although when I tried a second brewing, it was really bland. I will try it again using the 1 min brew time instructions here on Steepster and see how that goes. I will definitely have fun experimenting with this tea, mixing it up, perhaps even adding some sort of sweetener to it, just to see what notes pop out next time.

So when I was burrowing through some stuff in my basement, I came across a long-ago purchased hammock that I had forgotten about. Imagine! I could have been using the damn thing all summer, and only just now found it. Ah well, at least I found it.

In my pea brain, I had romantic visions of me swaying gently in my hammock, whilst drinking a cuppa, and enjoying a good book beneath the shady trees. Sounds delightful, right? Well, have you ever tried to drink anything in a hammock? I’m not sure it can be done. Especially a HOT drink. Picture it: Hot tea. Swingy hammock. Flailing arms. A girl who should never try to join Cirque du Solei. Nope, not a good situation. Learn from my folly. I can’t believe I’m even telling all of you, but I figured you might have a laugh from it. End result, tea was excellent once my feet (and rear) were firmly planted on the ground. ;)

Thought I’d have some more of this delightful tea. The aroma alone is just what the doctor ordered on this cold, wet and dreary day. I’m wanting to try multiple infusions with this one today, although I brewed the first infusion a bit longer, at 1min, 45seconds. My fault, I realized after I set it to brew that I had forgotten the suggested time that was listed on this page, which was under a minute. Oh well, I’ll just see how many I can squeeze out of it. :)

The colour is pure amber and the smell of caramel and nuts is so dreamy. I haven’t even taken a sip yet, and I can feel myself becoming more mellow. ;) I don`t know what it is about this tea, but I am becoming quite enamoured of it. First sip is just wonderful and I love the sweet nutty taste that is left on my tongue. I think I will move this up on my happy rating :)

ETA: 2nd infusion – I guess maybe my expectations are too high for a second infusion? Also, I overbrewed the first infusion so that might have something to do with it. I brewed the second one for well over 3 minutes just to be able to smell something when I stuck my nose in my Tea Master. I still smell the sweet nuts, just not as strong. The taste is weaker too, but still very yummy.

I will endeavour to make this correct at some point in hopes of being able to appreciate multiple infusions of it. At this point, I can’t imagine I will get much more out of the leaves.

This one is interesting. I didn’t expect to like it but dry it smelled lovely so I stole some from Indigobloom. Brewed it is definitely more flavour than tea. I steeped for four minutes since I wasn’t going to be awake enough to do a lot of infusions, and the longer time got me a caramel flavour with intense hints of nuts. The colour is a golden brown, the colour of light maple syrup and now that I say that I detect faint maple notes in the tea. Adding a dash of sugar brought the maple and caramel to the forefront. I think this one would be really nice in a muffin recipe to add a bit of sweetness to the mix.

Teaopia is a franchise that’s become increasingly popular in Canada over the past year or two. They still haven’t opened a store in my city unfortunately, but there’s several stores in places I often visit on vacation, so I’m not entirely bereft. ;)

This tea smell absolutely delectable – when I smelled it at the store I knew I wouldn’t be able to resist it – it’s sweet and creamy like a creme brulee with a touch of almonds added to it. Interestingly when I added the water it found I could really smell the apple pieces as well.

It’s also quite a delicious-tasting tea – sweet, though not too sweet and caramel-y the nuttiness is surprisingly strong and there’s just a hint of fruitiness. I think I’d steep it a touch longer than 1 min next time, but other than that this tea is a really enjoyable treat.

This is my first taste of Teaopia! But……Purolator really made me mad, they didn’t even attempt to deliver the package and then when I tracked my package 2 days after they were supposed to deliver it, I found it that it has been at Purolator for 2 days already. GRRRRRR.

Anyway, sorry about that, on to the tea.
This tea was really good, creamy, nutty, slightly sweet but not too sweet.
The buttery oolong comes through as well. What a tasty treat!

2nd steep: 95degrees, 4 minutes, still just as good of a cup, I taste more of the oolong, still sweet and nutty.

3rd steep: boiling, 5 minutes, growing a little weaker, but still very good

Another tea from Indigobloom, This one looked rather interesting. Shui Xian oolong with a whole jumble of stuff in it. It reminds me a bit of the Forbidden Fruit from David’s. Overall it is very nutty, with a rather smoky taste. I fully expected this to be a rather sweet tea, seeing the caramel pieces, but really I’m not quite sure what good they did, because clearly it did not melt and looks just a whole as before steep. I can’t really taste the jumble of the other ingredients much at all actually. The quality of the Shui Xian is better than that of David’s, and though there are awfully large pieces of twigs, there are rather bigger pieces of leaf. Instructions say to steep for 1min, but unless you’re using boiling water and packed a gaiwan full.. I don’t really see the point.

Well, it SMELLS delicious. I thought it was a little on the pricey side, though, to be honest. For a flavoured oolong? Still, I made the trip. I decided on this one when I discovered that there was a hidden Teaopia (not even on Google Maps, let along here) near(ish) to me. Jillian’s well-timed tasting note on this tea helped with the decision.

Dry it’s very creamy sweet smelling, brewed there is definitely more of a nutty profile in there (more in the wet leaves than the brewed tea, however). It’s sweet and creamy, and definitely nutty. The nutty, I think, blends well with the natural flavours of the oolong used (looking at the large, darkly colourful leaves, I wonder if it’s bai hao). The nut flavour, I think, is the culprit behind the light astringency on the tip of my tongue, because the tea is rather smooth otherwise. I think the nut is what sets this tea apart, because without it it’s just a cream oolong of some sort (not that that’s terribly ordinary anyways, but who would think to pair nuts and oolong? I like it).

Teaopia recommends three minutes, but that had seemed a little much; I started with two, but when I poked my nose into the pot, I saw that there hadn’t been any convection at all, just a small cloud of brown surrounding the teaball; I spent an extra (timed) thirty seconds of dunking to mix the tea and let it steep a little darker. The oolong leaves themselves look dark and oxidized enough that I assume it wasn’t meant to be a light brew.

First cup’s cooled more, and I’m picking up fruity hints. This is mellow and very nice.

This is a satisfying tea, and I’m delightfully surprised with Teaopia (not that I was expecting bad things). Also, they have (only in-store, not on their site) Turkish teacups! Except they sell them individually. And the saucer comes separate. Five bucks for a single glass teacup, three dollars for the saucer. Jesus Christ.

Was having trouble deciding what tea I wanted to drink, then realized that I only had about a scoop and a half left of this one, so I finished it off.

I still rather like it. It’s definitely creamy, and the nuttyness is sweet, not too strong. I kind of wish you got more of the oolong taste (it’s still present, though), since it’s sort of swamped by the others, but evaluating it in terms of the flavours added and not the base, it’s delicious. It doesn’t resteep too well—mostly because I do the first steep at three minutes anyhow—but the second steep has more of the tea coming through.

I think I’ll have to get more. When I got this, it had been my first (and only, so far) trip to Teaopia, and I went there specifically for this one—there were no others I was interested in trying. There still aren’t, really. Maybe the other flavoured oolongs.

This is one of my favourite teas of all time – there is nothing not to LOVE about it. From the aroma, to the taste, it’s absolutely marvelous. It even looks nice too!

The name says it all in terms of the flavour. This tea creates the aroma of caramel, and has a delicious, nutty taste. As a side note – it’s fun to pick out the chunks of caramel and eat them too.

I used to work at Teaopia, and by the end of it I couldn’t stand the smell of most teas after having to spend the day showing them to customers. Creamy Nut Oolong is one that never got old, and will always be one of my “go to” teas.

I also swear by this one for stomach problems. Though oolongs in general are great for digestion, this one just so happens to help me!

Overall, this is an AWESOME tea for a flavoured oolong, and I highly recommend trying it. Just take a smell of it and you’ll be addicted!

Oh how devine is the smell of this Oolong? Once brewed I find it looses much of the nutty, sweet smell & smells simply like tea (tea? you say, shouldn’t it smell like it? I only like flavoured tea though). Although there was a slight nutty taste, I could mostly taste the oolong, which as of right now I am not a big fan of.

I really really reallyyy like this.
I’ve never had Teaopia until yesterday (although it’s much closer to home for me than my new obsession, Davids). And oolongs are new for me as well, but this sounded so tempting. It also smelled great in the tin, and I could see almond slivers, caramel pieces(!!!) and the flowers.
(I like how Teaopia is set up – all of the teas are on some kind of lazy susan deal in the middle of the shop, so you can look at and smell whatever you like, without HAVING to talk to the employees before buying something. Davids is cool but sometimes I like to just browse on my own.)
Anyways, like I said the smell is delicious. Very nutty, and sweet at the end. I want to say it’s like vanilla, but then decide it’s more caramel…but that isn’t it either! So it’s got to be the creamy part I’m getting.
I brewed this for 3 minutes, added a pinch of sugar, and the taste is just like I imagined! So good.
In a way it reminds me of Toasted Walnut from Davids Tea – I fell in LOVE with that tea when I got a sample of it, and haven’t been able to get any since but crave it all the time. Now that I have this though, the cravings won’t be so bad :)

*I noticed this tea has apple pieces in it – I can’t distinguish them from the almond really, and don’t notice any distinct apple flavour (which doesn’t change my opinion of this tea one way or the other, just something I noticed). It also seems that alot of Teaopia’s flavoured teas have apple pieces in them…just kinda interesting to me.

This tea steeps well several times too! I have only done it twice but am sure you could do more. Just doubled the time I had steeped this the first time, and it might have tasted even better the second time around.

So I’m not sure why, but I’ve been gravitating towards oolongs for my morning tea lately. Today is no exception, but its mostly because I am obsessed with my newest addition. I almost never make it to Teaopia, because its out of my way, but I was in the area and could not resist a tea named the same why I describe my own preferences. Seriously, I always describe my tea preferences as “I prefer creamy, nutty teas.” So obviously this was a must try.

Overall, I love the flavour, and get a hint of the buttery, vegetal oolong underneath a creamy flavour. I find that the caramel dominates this blend, at least on the first steeping. I haven’t yet tried a second steeping but I hear good things.

The description indicates apple pieces, but I get NO hint of apple in the brewed tea. That said, I still enjoy the cup. Its very smooth, and and gives the feeling of sweetness without being sickly sweet.

I love this tea. This was one of the first teas I tried after finishing the 3 tea sample pack my girlfriend got me for Christmas that got me started on loose leaf.

I went to teaopia to pick out my own and this was one of them. I’ve already gone back to pick out a few new teas but I got a refill of this and expect it to be one that I continue to keep on hand.

Love the flavor, not too strong. Had a cup with lunch and then rested per some for my travel mug on the way to work. Drinking it right now :)

After liking this tea I’ve been trying other oolongs such as plum, and ordered a couple more online since oolong seems to be my thing.

This WAS my favourite tea in the store, until I discovered Apple Pie Oolong. ;) The flavours are VERY similar, but Apple Pie is slightly more creamy which is why it wins for me.

In any case, this tea is smooth and delicious. It’s not gonna taste as flavoured as it smells, which is fine because oolong doesn’t need a strong over-powering flavour. Perfect on it’s own, don’t add anything to this.

This used to be my favorite tea. With a light creamy taste, and undertones of nuts, it was hard to go wrong with this one. Also, it makes wicked re-steeps, and excellent hot or cold lattes. If you have a major sweet tooth like I did before, add some honey to the tea. It makes it taste incredible. This used to get me through some of the most stressful afternoons at work.

Whoah. I expected to like this from the scent, but I don’t. It does taste very, very nutty. I feel like I’m snacking on almonds.

But for some reason I can’t handle it. It’s just too much. I think it’s too heavily flavoured for me and loses any oolong flavour. I’m finding this with some of the fruit-flavoured teas I ordered from Teaopia, but if I’m in the right mood I can get into those. There is just too much going on here. I can’t even get halfway through my cup!

Once this cooled most of the way, I found it drinkable but still not something I’m likely to make again.

I must say I was rather disappointed in this tea… and most oolongs in general… As I have heard so many good things, I thought I would try (multiple times) to like it… So far not so much… I can’t decide whether or not I like the smell and the taste is… strange… I’m not even sure what to call it… Maybe nutty is just not my kind of flavor… If anyone has any suggestions, I am more than willing to try more ways to make this tea! I followed the steeping recommendations exactly and even tried it with milk on a separate occassion and that was just terrible…
