I really need more self control when it comes to tea.

Having fallen in love with Tin Roof Teas Moroccan Mint, I wanted to taste others. I had my daughter pick this up in Raleigh last night so I could compare the two. The two of us sat down for an “apples to apples” tasting.

The aroma was very similar to Tin Roof Tea’s MM. That is where the similarity ended. Before I removed the infuser basket, one sniff told me I was still going to be buying the one from TRT. I thought at first that I was to going to like the Teavana version at all, but now I can honestly say it is apples to oranges to compare the two.

The TRT version is mostly mint, lots and lots of fresh, tasty mint and no smoke. The Teavana version tastes like a slightly smokey gunpowder green with spearmint.

I need to do the tasting over again, because I noticed that their steeping recommendations are very different. TRT says 194F while Teavana says 175F, yet I made both teas with the same temp water.

The Teavana version isn’t bad, and if you love gunpowder green and want to taste it more, that might be the way to go. But my favorite is still TRT, so I think I will stop trying others and stick with what I know I love!

This tea from my cupboard came in last today in my four way Moroccan Mint face off.

The gunpowder base is harsher, the mint lighter. It may be more authentic since in Morocco they really do boil the tea until bitter, but for my money I will take the Tin Roof Teas version, please!

This is one of my favorite teas. It’s great to drink by itself, but I also drink it with other tea. I’ve mixed it with almost every other blend I have just to add a bit of mint flavor.

I’ll definitely have to be buying more very soon.

Thank you Rachel from iHeartTeas for this yummy sample. My stomach wasn’t feeling well today, so I figured something with mint might sooth it. This was the perfect tea. It was smoky and has a delicate minty flavor to it. It was refreshing. There was a mild astringency at the end of each sip, but nothing that would stop me from sipping this yummy tea.

I had several cups of this yesterday, and I woke up craving it this morning. Such a delightful tea. Smoky and sweet. I love the balance between the green tea and mint. Added honey water to one cup, and it was incredibly good.

Today I am going to try a cold brew. I have a feeling that this tea with a bit of honey is going to be my new go-to iced tea.

Today is the first full day of school for both of my kids, and I am enjoying the quiet (and attempting to not worry about them too much) with one of my favorite teas. I don’t think I can adequately describe how much I love the smokiness of the green tea and the flavor of the mint combined. Although I am usually more of a peppermint fan I think the spearmint here is perfect. It lends a sweetness that plays well against the gunpowder green tea.

If there is a downside it’s that I’ve used the last of my stash, so I’ll need to make a trip to the mall (ugh.) to get more.

Mmmmm, I love this tea. Definitely one of my favorites. The smokiness from the gunpowder green tea, the sweetness from the mint, the clean crisp bite at the end of the sip is all wonderful.

I’m almost out of this tea, and I’m seriously considering braving the mall this weekend to pick up some more. If that’s not love (or insanity) I don’t know what is.

I’m not a huge green tea fan… i’m just not. It is a sad fact and i wish i was a green fan, but i have problems with it. It just seems so bland and tacky. It may just be me but i feel like this tea has almost not flavor. i get a little mint but nothing that really excites me… i ordered a sample of the adagio Casablanca Twist so i hope is does better than this…

Smooth and minty. I wanted something crisp after lunch, so I figured a nice mint tea would do the trick. Even though I’ve had this for a few months, the mint is still as tart as it was when I first bought it. Added a dash of cream, so it was sort of creme de menthe-y.

This tea is so tasty! Made it by using boiling water and steeped it a little longer than directed and cut down the bitterness with lots of sugar! Some friends said this is how they had it when they had authentic Moroccan tea.

Oh, wow. I think the only thing I’d do differently next time is steep 15-30 seconds less, because there was a slight “overcooked” astringency. Overall this was a very clean tea- the green and spearmint worked perfectly and I was able to taste both rather nicely. Yum!

Cold brewed – 4 tsp. leaves in 750 ml. water. Left for approximately 20 hours, with no sweeteners added/needed.

This is a tea that I know well, in terms of the amount of tea leaves needed, the temperature it tastes best at, and the amount of time it needs to steep. I like it well enough, but it’s nothing compared to my boyfriend’s love of this stuff. He went through 4 oz. of this since the end of April from drinking it everyday at work, and so yesterday we went to Teavana (and got the traditional upsell, which we politely refused) to replenish another 1/4 pound’s worth. Before it goes away to work with him I snagged a bit to cold brew, just to see what would happen.

I was worried that the mint would make it seem like I was drinking cold bubble gum, but luckily it’s just a nice refreshing drink for an abominably hot summer day. A nice green that stands on its own with no sweetener required. Another cold brewing success!

Bumping this one up because we tried it iced tonight and…WOW.
I managed to make 8 cups of this iced using 4.5 tsp. tea leaves total. I steeped that amount in 500 ml twice (the second steep was for 2 minutes) and added it to another 500 ml of cold water and it was thoroughly chilled three hours later. I am a poor college student, so don’t judge the frugality!
It’s now four hours later and there’s about 2 cups left. So this was a win for both the boyfriend and myself and definitely discovered just in time for a Southeastern US summer! YAY!

Such a soothing nightcap. This is still my boyfriend’s favorite- I told him we were out after this and he gave me $25 to buy more and then some others for myself. (!!!) That was the icing on the cake of a wonderful day!

A solid tea – I drink it alot in the evenings and I was surprised at how much I have gone through since getting this – we’re going to have to order more soon. I have said it before, I’m sure, but this one is a staple in my tea collection.

I like this tea very much, but my boyfriend LOVES it – he’s enjoyed each of the other times we’ve had it and he loves the smell. It can do no wrong for him – but for me – it could definitely dry out my mouth with it’s astringency so there had to be a change in something to make it the best it could be. So, I played around with the parameters again – 3 level tsp. in 500 ml water, at 1:30 steep time.

This time when I gave him a mug and he took a sip, he looked at me and said, “It’s perfect.” He seemed surprised at the difference in flavor just by manipulating variables. I, however, used to manipulate variables for a living so I know just how much one small piece of the puzzle can have on the end result.

So, I’m bumping this rating up – I know I’m going to be ordering more of this once we go through our paltry 2 ounces. Now to figure out how to recreate this in some resteeps….

Decreased the steep time to reduce astringency – I though it brought the mint out more, but my boyfriend liked it better with the slightly longer steep, despite the added bitterness. I’m thinking we can come to a compromise if we add slightly more tea leaves (we did 2 tsp. to 500 ml water in our Breville) and keep with the minute and thirty seconds. Will try that and report back.

This is my first serious venture into “proper” tea, that is, something I don’t dunk in hot water with the help of a bag.

I have a thing for green tea to begin with, and the mint is an added bonus. As I tend to drink tea only at work (stress relief or procrastination? You decide), it makes a good early morning or mid-afternoon break.

And gunpowder tea? AWESOME. I can sit here and just watch the leaves expand. But that’s just me being easily amused.

I better like it. I bought 1/4 of a pound (I think) from Teavana. It’ll last me some time.

I really like this tea. Done right, I can taste both the spearmint and the green tea. The combination is very soothing- not something I would seek out as a first of the morning tea, more of an afternoon to early evening tea, I think. When I opened the tin, the dry leaf smell was REALLY minty, almost like smelling a pack of gum. The appearance of the leaf is tightly curled green tea, interspersed with pieces of dried spearmint. As the tea steeps, the leaves unfurl. After steeping, the minty gum smell is gone, replaced by a much more balanced aroma. As I said earlier, the taste is a balance between green tea and spearmint, with a light taste and a cool finish. I can’t wait for it to be warmer so I can try this iced, I think it would be a perfect summer drink for when I’m tired of water but don’t want pop/juice.

After spending some time in Marrakech,I fell in love with their mint tea and have tried to find a tea that tastes just as good!! As a lover of all things mint including mint teas, I have bought this tea multiple times from Teavana. With some sugar, it makes the perfect minty hot tea; or I can make a delicious iced tea with it. This is one of my top 5 teas to drink.

I quite like this tea. It’s nice and minty without being overwhelming. I can only get a little bit of the green leaf in the taste, but that’s okay, because the star of the show is the spearmint. Like everyone else has said, it’s probably great iced. I’ll have to try it some time.

This tea has spearmint instead of peppermint, which was why I bought it. Testing it tonight for the first time, my opinion is that this is only “ok”. Only “ok” isn’t good enough, so I’m going to play around with steep times etc., as there seems to be a wide variable for this one. I’m also going to try iced, as JoonS. makes such a compelling case for it : )

I’ve had this tea for a while and I’ve made disgusting cups and I’ve made wonderful cups. Most of the bad tasting cups came from my own inexperience on how to properly brew green teas, normally the water would be far too hot and i would steep it for way too long. Now I get the water a bit below boiling and steep it for no more than 3 minutes although 2 minutes and around 30 seconds seems to work much better. I’ve been using this tea as heartburn relief this past week and its been great. I think this will end up as a staple tea for me.

I am enjoying a cup of this lovely tea as I sit and relax while reading a book on tea I picked up at the library.

I really enjoy this one. It’s a very nice balance of mint and green tea. I was afraid it’d be too minty but it’s just right. The gun powder green tea is very smooth too. Plus the leave are fun to watch unfurl more with each steep (I usually get 3 good steeps out of this).

It’s a great refreshing tea for the afternoon. Might even be nice with sweetener if that’s your taste. I just prefer my green teas without any.

Teavana’s Moroccan Mint is one of my favorite morning blends. The minty and smoky flavor, when properly brewed, is refreshing and pleasant – just the right medley of mint and gunpowder green. If you like a stronger tea (like me) I add a heaping teaspoon per 8 oz of water and brew almost three minutes. I do recommend being careful about the temperature. I guesstimate well below boiling; that is how I enjoy it. The flavor is uplifting and refreshing – even as a hot tea in the heat of summer. This is delicious iced as well.

Clean, crisp and minty…I like to drink this when I have a cold or a sore throat, it’s very soothing.
