From Teavana

Robust but elegant earthy notes with a smooth and mellow, sweet finish.

Legend has it that pu-erh black tea was made famous given as a dowry by Chinese Princess Wencheng in 641AD. Subsequently, Emperor Daoguang granted pu-erh as the ‘Divine Tribute to the Kingdom of Heaven’ and was considered a tribute tea in 1839AD. After drying, the tea undergoes and additional fermentation process, which activates enzymes and provides and elegant earthy flavor. Ours is a rich loose-leaf pu-erh carefully blended with a high-grade Yunnan black tea. Well- balanced, smooth and mellow, the cup finishes with a noble floral note.

How to prepare:
Use 1 teaspoon of tea per 8oz of water. Heat water to 195-205 degrees (90-96 degrees Celsius) and steep for 2-3 minutes. For stronger flavor, use more tea leaves. 2oz of tea equals 25-30 teaspoons.

Stopped at Teavana and got this tea this weekend when I went up north for a wedding. I don’t like black tea, but apparently I like ripe pu-erh! For some reason I have to add more sugar than normal to enjoy it, but once I do, it tastes quite delicious :)

Thank you MissB for some of this one! I don’t know what is going on with Teavana, but with that feather thing, I’m kind of glad I don’t own more Teavana teas. They aren’t really my thing anyway, but their plain teas are usually okay. A Yunnan / pu-erh sounds interesting! I guess it’s blended with both pu-erh leaves and Yunnan leaves and I can definitely taste that. It’s interesting, but at the same time, it seems like it should be either one or the other. I would appreciate both blends independently. But there is an equal balance – definitely earthy dark pu-erh but also an additional sweetness from the Yunnan. Not very chocolatey though. Both cups tasted the same. So sweet though! It’s odd. I’d choose this over some of Teavana’s wacky blends though.

This was my first loose tea to start off my collection and I am so glad. I love having this tea in the morning. It’s also nice at night on occasion since it does have some caffeine. The smooth earthy flavor is a wonderful way to start my early mornings.

I’ve had this one for quite a while in my cupboard. Pu-Erh is my favorite out of all teas. There is just some I love about the bold full bodied flavor you get from the Pu-Erh. If it’s Pu-Erh I like it even if it happens to be a cheaper variety that tends to be on the fishy side. To liken it to beer terms this seems to be more like a lager than a stout. The aroma of the dry leaves seems to be closer to a straight Yunnan black than a Yunnan Pu-Erh….and there is explanation to my ignorance after reading on the Teavana website that it is blended with Yunnan and not just a straight Pu-Erh(something is rotten in the state of Denamark). Either way this is a pretty good offering from Teavanna that won’t break the bank either. I find more and more that I have to be thrifty when I feed the tea habit. I have found that mixing this with the Teavanna’s Chocolate Orange Tea makes for quite a treat. I tsp each ratio. I will probably keep this one on hand.

Wouldn’t buy again not a bad tea but just average with some earthiness.
Good price at about $7.00 for two oz it’s worth that!
3rd steeping still not bad.

This is the first pu-erh tea that I’ve tried, and I like it! In the past I’ve disliked plain black teas (although I might be changing my taste), and pu-erh is reminiscent of black tea but definitely has a richer, more complex flavor. For my first cup I had it with some rock sugar and it was great. For my second cup I resteeped the leaved (without adding more sugar) and had some cream, and it was okay; either I didn’t steep it long enough or I just don’t like it with cream.

I’m excited to try other pu-erh teas now. I’ve also been to Yunnan, China, which makes this kind of fun (although I didn’t have any pu-erh tea while I was there! Only green and jasmine, I think).

(Tea from silentrequiem. Thanks!)

For the second steep, I blended this with some TeaCuppa Chrysanthemum and it was very very nice. The chrysanthemum added a nice hint of subtle sweetness and complemented the earthiness of the Pur-erh. I highly recommend that combination!
