Earl Grey White

Tea by Teavana

Traditional Earl Grey is modernized by adding bergamot essence to white tea. White tea is the highest in antioxidants and lowest in caffeine, which makes this a very healthy choice. Studies suggest Bergamot oil acts as a mild anti-depressant. Unique and delicious!

Back logging from this morning. My thanks to TeaNerdette for the sample. I enjoyed this one today at my last day at work. What a perfect calming cup of tea for such a stressful day. I could taste the hints of apricot and just enough bergamot too. It should be noted that I am basically terrified of Earl Grey teas of any kind (I’ve tried quite a few to get over this). But this one was very light and not scary at all. In fact I just might have to pop into Teavana (there I said it….cover me I’m going in ;) ) to pick up some more.

I’ve tried the traditional Earl Grey teas from a variety of places, but none of them ever “did it” for me. But this one is very different. Sure the bergamot is there, but it isn’t as harsh as it seems in more traditional Earl Grey teas.

In fact this one is very light, but pretty smooth when drinking it. I also added a little agave to sweeten it just a little. There’s also a pretty color that comes out in this tea. The smell is amazing – that’s the best way to say it. This is a tea I plan to keep in my stash.

I was worried that I’d hate this. I haven’t had an Earl Grey since my last Twinings bag at a continental breakfast.

Funny thing, I don’t hate it. Which is great.

As soon as I opened the seal on the bag that the tea came in the scent of bergamot almost knocked me over. It was the strongest bergamot I can remember experiencing.

Surprisingly, the tea wasn’t nearly as strong as a brewed cup. This isn’t to say that it’s weak, because it wasn’t by any means, but it was lighter than any other Earl Grey that I remember. Drinking it, the white tea hardly came out because of the bergamot, but made a subtle base so as to not make one feel as if they are drinking hot, diluted bergamot oil.

It was lovely (clean, as some people describe it), and I believe I’ve found my Earl Grey of choice.

Maybe they (whoever invented the blend) should have made the tea blend with white tea in the first place…

Being someone who has always loved the scent of bergamot in Earl Grey but has always felt let down by the flavor, this was defiantly a home run. This is less of an “Earl Grey” and more of a white tea dipped in the bergamot oil. In my previous review of the Copper Knot Hongcha, I mentioned that it was one of my go-to teas at work, this was in my tumbler even more frequently than that tea. The blue cornflower pedals give the dry leave a nice look but also give it a very distinct taste; which coats your mouth with a flavor reminciant of something starchy. I don’t even like to call this tea an earl grey since the quality is so much higher than that of such a traditional tea. Even if you’re not a huge fan of Earl Grey I recommend trying a cup of it, you may be surprised.

I tend to stay away from Teavana since they are overpriced, hype up the health benefits, and their sales associates are often too pushy. However, I stopped in to look at their tumblers since I haven’t found one I like online or in other stores. I purchased one and have been very happy with it.

I got a cup of this to go (though it was highly recommended that I buy a few ounces and a tin). They didn’t let it steep long enough but it still had a nice balance of citrus and white tea.

I was really worried about this tea, whenever I open up the bag the smell is super intense! Just the bergamot smell…so it’s not bad, just stronger than I’m used to. I’m pretty sure most of the earl grey’s I’ve had before are bagged, so maybe that’s why.

Thankfully, the taste isnt overpowering, maybe even on the milder side. Unfortunately later infusions are pretty light and the main flavor you get is the ‘bud-dy’ flavor of the white tea. Which I’m not a fan of…naturally sweet tea kinda writes me out.

I need to try again though, this is a backlog from like two weeks ago…

I’ve always liked the smell of Earl Grey tea more than the taste. I am though a big fan of white teas. I felt that this Earl Grey tea really hit where I expected that Bergamot smelling tea to taste. not an especially heavy tasting tea and perfect for a cold evening. I don’t recommend drinking it on an empty stomach though.

Backlog from a quite some time ago: I’m not sure exactly what it was about this tea, but I really didn’t enjoy it much at all. I can’t pinpoint if it was one thing specifically or just the whole thing overall, but this definitely isn’t my cup of tea.

Since I had such a bad experience with this tea last time I drank it, I decided to cold brew some of it in the fridge overnight to see if that would make any difference in my opinion on it. Bleh….I wish I knew what it was in this tea that tastes so bad to me. Maybe it’s the bergamot? I’m not sure because I don’t really know what it tastes like or if it’s what I’m tasting. I think I may have to swap the rest of this away….

This tea is just not my thing at all!

It’s a Sunday afternoon of leisure. This is the first time I actually got a thermometer and steeped my tea for a perfect cup, and it was completely worth it. Very smooth and refreshing, this is my favorite tea right now. Happy sipping!

What I believe to be the bergamot in this tea is a very strong flavor and scent. It is almost overwhelming to the extent I may not drink it. Although I did get it down sip by sip it was a different experience being that it was a less expensive white tea. A mistake made by buying two bergamot flavored teas including a black tea called Earl Grey Creme Black Tea by Teavana.

My point being I guess I should have done a sample taste by going one ingredient at a time to assess the bergamot. It is good, but so-so to me. As a last thought; never oversteep this tea! OMG!

Got this for Valentine’s Day and decided to try it this evening. It’s very pleasant, light yellow liquor. I saw lavender colored things in the dried leaves and was worried it would mess with the bergamot flavor, but they didn’t. It reminds me of a light version of my normal Earl Grey…yum.

This is really the only tea I’ve been drinking for the last week or so. I really like it, it’s a nice break from my traditional Earl Grey first thing in the morning.

I’m a white tea drinker much more than an Earl Grey drinker, so that’s the perspective I’m coming from with this tea. I liked it a lot. I found the bergamot flavour to be nicely balanced with the flavour of the tea, and overall a very clean sort of taste – white tea with an added zing. I’ll be having this one again.

An absolute advancement in Earl Grey. So fantastic, So light, with the uplifting taste of bergamot. Something so perfect and unthought of.

I wanted to buy just some plain earl grey, but they were out at my shop, and this was recommended to me. I am not a fan of white tea, but I really enjoyed it.

I actually bought this tea during my first Teavana experience. I thought it was too bitter than and had a weird taste, so I didn’t really drink it, but here I am a little over two years later and it ages really well. I think it now has a great fresh taste.

It’s an interesting take on an Earl Grey. Once again it was recommended by one of the employees (from the reviews this seems to be a trend). The combination goes together pretty well, and it’s a nice change from a black Earl.
Actual first steep time was 3 minutes (IE 9 seems to be having problems dragging the bar…).
All in all a nice change, but not an everyday tea for me.

What possessed me to set the timer for three minutes? In any case, two and a half minutes is way too long to steep this. It got decidedly tannic and rough.

Also, 6 gr a bit light – 8 gr might be better.

8 gr, 2:00: still fairly rough – drinkable but not really enjoyable.

Same exact flavor at 1:00! What is with this tea?!

If it can’t turn out some lovely, bergamotty goodness at thirty seconds it’s going in the trash…

Earl Grey is the reason I found tea, and this one was recommended to me. While I don’t like it as much as my regular Earl Grey it is a nice tea when I am looking for something different.
