Raspberry Riot Lemon Mate

Yerba maté Tea by Teavana

Get all-day energy from the invigorating fusion of tart raspberry and lemon, with a high-octane jolt of pure Argentinean Mate. The brisk lemon and tangy raspberry give this green Mate the character and flavor you’re craving.

How to Prepare

Use 1.5 teaspoons of tea per 8oz of water. Heat water to 208 degrees and steep for 5-6 minutes. 2oz of tea equals 25-30 teaspoons.

Ingredients: Green Mate tea, raspberries, apple bits, rosehips, hibiscus blossoms, lemongrass, and pink rose buds.

This tea blends well with:
Lemon Youkou Herbal Tea
Weight To Go! Pu-erh Tea
Rooibos Tropica® Rooibos Tea

This drink tastes good…but I don’t think it tastes much like tea. I feel more like I’m drinking raspberry lemonade. Usually Mate gives me a good jump start, but this doesn’t do a thing. Seems like I’m steeping fruit with a bit of tea…I like it the other way around.

Deliciousness in a cup. Brewed according to package directions and used raw sugar to sweeten…but I really didn’t need it.

Steeped for four minutes and added cream at the end. It’s the only thing getting me through this conference call right now.

This is still one of my favorite teas from Teavana’s line, mainly because of how easily it blends with so many other teas. If you want more maté flavor, try adding a lemon maté blend (it also helps accentuate the raspberry flavors). In the past I’ve added herbal teas like spearmint to it to give it a bit more depth and interest. Even on it’s own, it’s a great herbal maté blend with strong flavors of raspberry (and no harsh aftertaste).

So recently I bought this electric kettle from Adagio Teas (http://www.adagio.com/teaware/utiliTEA_kettle.html), and it arrived this morning. I said “well why not use it to brew up some morning mate?”. In less than 2 minutes, I had boiling water, and quite a smugly satisfying cup of this on my hands. Always a winner.

I needed a pick-me-up on this grey rainy Sunday (plus, my voice is still a bit shot from my revelry in Austin), and this did the trick. I tried it out in my new Bodum tea press. Never a bad cup out of this brew. I added a bit of spearmint for a little more zip.

Finally a mate you can ice!! I love this with a little sugar. Out of this world fruity taste and with that great roasted mate base. Delicious! I only ever drink this iced but a lot of people have been raving to me about it hot. I’ll have to try that sometime. Overall, this is a must try for mate and fruit tea lovers. The sharp lemon kick with the raspberry is pure heaven.

Interesting….Not a bad interesting, but not terribly inspiring either. I do plan on making this with Caribbean Calypso next time, I think they would do well together. I tried it hot because that is my standard. But in agreement with others, this probably would taste better iced. The only question is, to try it iced by itself, or paired up?? I suspect that even if I do like it iced, I won’t be getting this again. Why? Because I have similar flavors with my MIO and Crystal Light juice mixes that are much cheaper and beyond that of finishing the bag, I have no interest in tying up space in my cupboard.

Yum! This is the best fruity Maté I have ever had; Great to blend! My current favorites to blend it with are Six Summits Oolong and Pineapple Kona Pop!

This is my 2nd favorite Teavana tea! It’s summer and I always have a pitcher of this iced. I work 3rd shift and take this with me on the way out the door. Once the cold weather gets here, I’ll be taking it hot, which is really nice too.

Can’t taste the mate in it, the fruit is to strong. You don’t even need much in the way of sugar, as it’s sweet enough without.

This is by far one of my favourite herbals that I have tasted so far.

When I first tried yerba mate I was thrown off by an unpleasant taste, though after tasting Raspberry Riot I now know this was due to the blend I had originally tasted it in.

The taste of this mate is a pleasant mix of sweet and sour. Even though some may not usually enjoy tart flavours, the lovely taste of the fruits coupled with the green mate would make it difficult for anyone not to like this blend.

This mate is one of my favourite pick me ups. The tart, tangy flavours of the fruit serve as an explosion of flavour and the mate acts as the ultimate mateine/caffeine kick.

Definitely worth trying if you’re into a very flavourful herbal!

Had this as my morning tea and it was fantastic.

Loves it! It’s fruity and sweet but not too much so. Definitely better than its predecessor, Lemon Blast Mate.

Just picked this one up yesterday on the suggestion of the girl in the store. I told her I wanted a fruity mate that would be good hot or cold, and she suggested this one.
The smell is incredible. Very tart smelling, with a strong lemony scent.
Steeped it hot, and it definitely was tart! I may try it again in the future with less leaf but I’d always found Teavana’s teas to need about a 1/2 tsp more than suggested (at least). As it was, I added some sugar (at the office without agave) and it was nice. Kind of reminded me of a tastier NeoCitran? That kind of lemony flavour, with raspberry notes. Not bad, but probably won’t re-buy.

The main appeal I saw in this tea was the caffeine content. I was having a hard time getting going in the morning, and I don’t like the taste of coffee. It can be a little bitter if steeped for too long.

This is the first Mate that I’ve tried, and I wasn’t very impressed. The lemon overpowered the raspberry to the point where it just tasted like lemon tea. While the flavor was pleasant, I would have preferred it to have more of a balance.

Next time I will try it iced and see how that goes, but as far as this taste goes, I wasn’t overly impressed.

We were at the mall the other day and my husband suggested trying Teavana. Not a good experience, sad to say. The shop girl kept trying to push us into buying a pound of tea, even after we decided to pass. Feeling pressured to buy something, I picked out some of this raspberry yerba mate. Was already feeling not so good about the transaction and the price, but figured the tea would be, at the least, a drinkable pick-me-up.

When I got home and opened the bag, the unpleasant medicine-y, “cough drop” smell was overwhelming. I literally can not find ANY mate in there, just red chunks and some slivers of lemongrass. I assumed the tea had just settled and the shopgirl missed scooping any into the bag, but it looks like other reviewers have had the same issue.

This tea is NOT as advertised. No bright, tart, fruity raspberry. No sour, citrusy lemon. No herbal, grassy mate. Hot, it tastes like syrupy, artificial hibiscus. Iced isn’t much better. Barely tolerable with sugar. No mate uplift. I even tried adding a scoop of my precious discontinued Rishi lemongrass mate to the second pot to see if that would balance it, and all I did was waste my lemongrass mate.

I was extremely disappointed in this tea.

ETA: If you add some good mate and lots of sugar, and let the pitcher sit out on the counter for a half hour, some of the hibicus/rose mellows out and it becomes drinkable. As far as sugary drinks go, Koolaid is slightly better and a lot cheaper.

Really lovely. I’m not a big fan of any hot liquid that isn’t improved by milk but this is a gorgeous bedtime tea. Raspberry overpowers the lemons. The colour is beautiful in a glass teapot.

I like this as an iced tea in the morning for a little caffeine. I find that it definitely requires sweetener as the lemon and raspberry flavors are quite tart. I usually use a little stevia and that makes it nice and smooth.

I LOVE this tea!! It is tart and I add some German Rock Sugar. It gets you right in the back of the teeth!! I LOVE the smell and the color is gorgeous. One of my favorite morning teas when I need a kick in the pants.

I originally bought this mate because teaopia discontinued their peach mate, which was my boyfriend’s favorite. This has become our new favorite tea, it is so delicious. Raspberry takes the forefront and the lemon kind of lingers in the background. This is perfect for people who don’t really enjoy the taste of mate, such as myself, I find it rather chalky and unpleasant. A great tea to have for mate beginners, or someone desiring a pleasant change.

It’s my all favorite tea ever!
I bought it this summer in USA and I’m sad to have to wait for buying it again! ( at least I can buy it on the web)
It’s a mate, super fruity,

I got talked into buying this when I was at Teavana the other day. I must say I was a little skeptical because htis is a fruity tea and not a cinnamon tea, but I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. I really like the raspberry and lemon in this tea and I think the fruit mix is very good. I’ve already made a few pots of this tea and will definately be making more. I need to find some fruit teas I like that are not Mate though so that I am not drinking so much caffeine.

I really want to say I love this tea, because it seems that almost everyone loves it. What’s not to love? A caffeinated fruity-lemony tea that you can have iced on summer mornings? However, in good conscience I can’t say that. I have almost forced myself to make this tea in hopes that one time when I do it, I will fall in love with it but every single time I think “gosh this is wayyyy too lemony.” Therefore, I think it’s just my preference for sweeter versus sour things that sets my opinion apart from most others on this tea. I have been able to take care of this problem with mixing with the Weight To Go! Pu-erh Tea, which helps balance out the citrus flavor. However, I would rather recruit a cup of chai to slap me out of it in the a.m.!

I recruited this fruity tea to help wake me up for a 7am weekend shift (the horror!). This time I mixed it with Weight To Go Pu-erh from Teavana and the sour lemon flavor I oh so much hated in the Raspberry Riot was subdued. Mixing these two is simply delicious and really improves the mate’s flavor. I decided to up my rating of this tea for this reason :)
