From Teavana

Roasted infusion with rich chocolaty overtones

It’s not coffee, is it tea? Taste this coffee-like maté and red rooibos blend. Sweetened with cocoa and chocolate chips, this mochaccino inspired blend infuses smooth, dark rich sips that are soft and robust.

Use 1.5-2 tsp of tea per 8oz of water. Heat water to just at boiling (208 degrees/98 degrees Celsius) and steep for 5-6 minutes. For stronger flavor, use more tea leaves.

Ingredients: Roasted maté, cocoa kernels, chocolate flakes (sugar, cocoa mass, cocoa powder), red rooibos, artificial flavoring, marigold petals

This is probably the best tea blend available at Teavana. It has a nice, chocolaty sweetness that could convert even the most hardcore yerba-hater. Unfortunately, it is pretty pricey, too. I’ll be trying to make a home-spun version in the coming weeks.

Blended this with Masala Chai, and it’s basically the best morning drink I know of.

Work tea.

This one was sweet though the chocolate was subtle. A roasty and earthy tea.

I realize Teavana is generally grumped about in the tea community.

… However, MateVana makes me a happy happy human.

Until I can find a suitable replacement from a smaller brand, this has been brewed daily at my home. It’s just enough awake-ness to make me feel comfortable, but not enough to give my caffeine sensitivity trouble.

The roasted mate combined chocolate-y, nutty, creamy nature reminds me of a watery coffee without the bitterness (which is the point, I realize). But the fact that it’s a little on the thin side is not really a bad thing. I do wish it was more robust—perhaps if I added milk, it would be perfect. I tend to fill up my contigo tumbler with this.

Backlog from December 7th:

Something is up with the MateVana page – it never loads properly so I haven’t been able to log a note when I drink it. Today I want something dark and chocolaty. This is indeed dark, as dark as coffee or more so even. It’s perfectly chocolaty, just as I was hoping. It’s not like a hot chocolate but more like a chocolate coffee.

Sip down! I may have overleafed this in an effort to sip down, but it didn’t effect the enjoyment of the cup. If anything it made it a little richer. I have enjoyed this tea over the years, but others have caught my interest and I’m ready to move on. Weird to think that Teavana is gone and I won’t ever get to revisit this again. Oh well. Onto the next tea!

I’m a DAVIDsTEA person and I had never actually bought a tea from Teavana before, so I decided to try it out. I bought this tea because I usually like mates and it smelled incredible (even though at teavana they apparently only fan the air next to the tea into your face, instead of actually letting you smell it like at DAVIDs… am I bitter?).

I brewed a pot of it and was sorely disappointed. It looks like sludge and instead of the chocolatey, bright, almost wood-ish smell it has when its dry, it has an almost burnt smell when it’s steeped. It tasted like nothing. I found myself struggling to try and drink the tea as fast as I could just to make it go away.

Would not buy again, and honestly I probably wouldn’t shop at Teavana again.

Only 4 more teas and then I will be completely Teavana free.
I’m still bitter about their poor customer service. I expected bad service in store. I expected good service on the website. (I’ve already ranted about them in the forums so no need to bore you guys, but I’ve learned my lesson!)

4 more Teavana teas left!

ETA: You know what? Make it 3. My sister-in-law keeps drinking my Maharajah/Samurai chai blend – I’ll just stick it in HER tea cupboard here at work. :P (sipdown 214?) She enjoys it far more than I do anyway.

cavo… i TOLD YOU…. lol neener neener

TeaLady441

Yep. You are so modest! You are a shining star that everyone should hold up as the pinnacle of winning gracefully.

Sami Kelsh

I’ve never had anything from Teavana, but their customer service blah and sales policies make me want to run in the opposite direction as fast as I can. There are much nicer places to give our custom! Yay sipdowns!

Daddyselephant

I had the same issue with Teavana last year and did the same thing. I immediately got rid of all the teas they BOTHERED to send from my order and gave away the teaware. My wife INSISTED on hanging on to one tea from them and it made me so, so made, especially since it was a straight oolong that was easily found elsewhere. We finally got rid of it a month ago and I was so damn happy. Teavana is awful. I refuse to even glance inside their stores.

TeaLady441

Well the biggest reason I was so excited to order from them was 75% off! :O Who can resist that?
Well…. I can now. :P

Team Teavanaboycott HIGHFIVES!

Sil

cavo… why THANK YOU! giggling

Daddyselephant

Hell yes! I hadn’t tried match yet (so I guess this was 2 years ago XD) and their matcha set with a whisk and a bowl were part of the sale and the only reason I ordered. Of course, it wasn’t available and I had the same run around with customer service that you did. When the package of the other crap did arrive, two teacups were shattered, the tins were covered in dents and one of the packages of tea was open.

Uuugh. Screw Teavana.

TeaLady441

OMG, really? That’s beyond awful! :|

Sami Kelsh

Yikes aisling, that’s awful! :(

VariaTEA

You might have been the way I got rid of a lot of my Teavana. I really hate the company and don’t want it around. My roommate wouldn’t even buy me a pitcher from them because she knows how much I despise Teavana.

Daddyselephant

The best part was, when we sent them pictures of the destruction within the package, their response was to “replace” it with tea with didn’t even like along with a note card that said “Thank you for your compliments!”

TeaLady441

What, really? They didn’t even attempt to replace the teaware? Or refund it?

Daddyselephant

Nope. Since the cups were now “out of stock”, they sent off the tea without asking and considered it handled.

OMGsrsly

OMG! I am wheezing with both laughter and horror. Good combo, tea friends. :) I am so glad my ordering experience was OK. It just sucks that I really like 2 of their teas. Oh well. I’ll get them free with my sbux rewards I guess….
