It’s raining outside, great day to sip down all the tea yay.
Thank you Teavivre for this sample! I love how this tea looks! Very tiny, curly and soft and the smell is soo fresh as expected from 2014 picked tea. You can also see from wet leaves that this tea is made only from the buds and tips, me likey.
First steep turned out as pale yellow and it smells sweet vegetal, wet leafs smell quite same as the dry leaves. Nutty flavor with vegetal notes, and some sweet fruity flavours. I would love to have more than sample of this.

Thanks to Angel and Teavivre for the generous samples!

I could smell the dry leaf from the moment I opened the sample pouch. A savoury, roast-y aroma.

Steeped, the aroma becomes a bit more vegetal. The taste is quite light, still sort of savoury with a hint of nuttiness and to my surprise, a slight hint of sweetness. There’s a lightly astringent finish.

I usually don’t drink green teas (longjing being an exception), but I could see myself drinking more of this!

I went to Charlottesville. I am back. But I left a piece of my heart behind, because it is a gorgeous place.

There is happiness here, though, because I’m reviewing #3 on my list of Teavivre Green teas, yay!

I was worried that I overheated this one, but so far the taste turned out well. The leaves are very fluffy and curly looking, and they had a floral smell when dry, mixed with the classic vegetal scent.

The taste is hard to pinpoint. It has a nutty, grassy taste to it, more of a sweet grass than anything. But there is this floral, sweet aftertaste. Green teas all have a similar taste to me, so it can be hard to pick out the exact differences, though they are there. I think I definitely pick up on the floral and sweet notes in this tea more than the first two, and it’s a little stronger tasting overall.

I’ve been trying to read over other tasting notes for teas, to see what the common consensus is on how a tea tastes, or just common flavours that everyone seems to pick up. Teavivire also gives a great listing of tastes that are common, so that’s nice and that helps.

This tea is really nice, and maybe I’ll even try it iced at some point. It’s fullbodied, strong, with a sweet, floral flavour and it is really well-balanced. :) Now off to finish drinking it!

P.S: For my fellow teapot users—when you make tea in a teapot, I highly recommend writing a note to your loved ones inviting them to make a cuppa, or making one for them. I’ve started always making enough tea for my mother to share with me, and it’s a nice feeling to make tea for someone other than yourself. I know it can be hard to share some of our favourite teas, but I think these little actions are the things that build onto bigger actions, and lead to more love and light in the world. <3 Share some of the tea love!

additional notes: Trying to drink some of the older stuff. Boy, is this old, but it’s still very good. One more steep session until a sipdown…

If anyone receives a giftcard (especially greater than $5) from Teavivre’s lucky draw that they would like to share with me, please let me know! There are only a couple things I wanted to get, including my favorite puerh that is somehow on sale. It’s probably the only Black friday sale I will be taking part in. :D

tea-sipper

oh darn, now my favorite puerh is out of stock, so I missed it.

tea-sipper

I knew that would happen so I don’t know why I waited.

ashmanra

Sorry you missed it! So disappointing!

tea-sipper

Thanks ashmanra.
Oh, it was the Fengqing Golden Buds Ripened Pu-erh Cake Tea 2013 if anyone has any they don’t want that they would like to swap for…

This is another lovely sample sent to me by Angel. I needed something straight to give my taste buds a bit of a break since there are another 20 or so samples i want to try and get through today (insanity! and likely not going to happen….) For those who aren’t aware, greens are not my preferred teas, though i am always willing to give them a shot. Plus, these leaves are super cute! I love the dry smell of this tea…just like fresh grass…but not cut :) Brewed up, this is a really nice cup of tea, though not as delicious as the dragonwell that Angel sent my way. there’s a sharpness to this tea that reminds me a little of that medicinal taste you sometimes get at the end of cough medicine… it’s still a nice enough cup, but i’d take the dragonwell first please :)

Stephanie

I like the sharp tartness. I think it reminds me of tart cherries.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my green tea sampler from TeaVivre! It has been fun to taste each one and compare and contrast them. Thanks again Angel for the samples!

This one seems very well balanced. It has many elements but none are shouting louder than the others and throwing it off. It is sweet but vegetal, creamy, a little tangy and crisp. It has a mellow vibe about it. The aftertaste is divine. I love how it lingers on my palate.

Water: 8oz

Leaves: tiny curled leaves

Steep: 1m,2m,3m

Aroma: Spinach, Collard greens

Color: light pale yellow

Taste: The aroma for this was quite different it reminded me of spinach & collard greens. The leaves were tiny curled and a bit fuzzy. I accidentally forgot to time my first steep when i sat down at my computer (I use an online timer). I found this cup to be quite smooth & lightly flavored. I want to try things differently next time i brew this tea, use more tea leaves. I usually go for the 1tsp per 8oz of water but have been wanting to test the waters to see which result I’d get from more leaves. The other brews remain the same keeping with the overall lightness of the tea. Spring 2015 harvest

Received a bunch of Spring 2014 green tea samples from Teavivre today! So exciting.

I grabbed a random one to try first, and this was it.

Let me set the scene: I’m sitting down to enjoy a much needed cup of tea for a couple minutes while my baby plays contentedly in her exersaucer…..probably won’t last too long.
Went for our stroll earlier. It’s really hot and humid here today. That never stops me from drinking hot tea though I’ve been taking iced tea with me on our walks.

So I opened up the sample pack of this and was overwhelmed (in a good way) by both the appearance of the leaves (bright green, small, curly and fuzzy), and the smell – fresh, vegetal, appealing in a foreign (to me), way.

I steeped at 85 degrees for 4 min (package said 1-5, next time I will do three as it got a wee bit bitter on me). The wet leaves looked so pretty and new in my steeper.

The liquor was a pale greenish yellow, smelled really vegetal, and just green, if that makes sense….I’m normally all about the black teas. This was a nice change.

I brewed this not knowing what to expect, and ended up really enjoying it.
Unfortunately I’m terrible at being descriptive in a way that would actually help anyone, but I did go read some other reviews to see if I could reach some of those conclusions in my own cup.

I definitely see where the whole “vegetable soup broth” thing comes from, because it’s more of a savory cup than a sweet one, though it has its own sort of nutty, vegetal sweetness to it.

That’s about all I’ve got for you though. I’m looking forward to trying the other samples…thanks very much Angel/Teavivre!

I think I’m going to enjoy these lighter teas for the summer!

Cameron B.

I feel the same way about not being able to describe things since I’m fairly new to tea – especially straight greens. I think you did a great job with it, though!

boychik

its very nice review. its more descriptive than i would do,especially for green tea:)

I tried this tea years ago and gave it a high score of 97. It’s been a few years later and I am asking myself – Why wasn’t I ordering this tea every year????. This 2017 tea is just as amazing as it was then. From now on this tea is on my green tea list to order every year.
And I give it 100. It just doesn’t get any better than this.

Unfortunate sipdown! I really enjoyed this tea. May need to order it at some point with Huang Shan Mao Feng, another one I really like. I actually just bumped the rating up on this one a little bit because it came out even better than last time. Tangy, sweet and savory both depending on whether this is your first sip or your last. It is very flavorful- almost fruty at first- and it was straight-up refreshing this morning. Also, these airy, fluffy, deeply colored leaves are so attractive. They remind me some of how cute WP’s Golden Snail leaves are.

After all the black/pu-erh steeping yesterday, I think I had way too much caffeine. Today I wanted something just like this with low caffeine. So thank you, Bi Luo Chun for helping me out. I re-steeped this one 3 times and it held up fine btw. And now I am going to go knead my made-from-scratch bread dough so I can bake a few loaves before the start of the week. There is nothing like fresh homemade bread and a good cup of tea. Happy Sunday!

This one isn’t updating with the edit, but I used a heaping 1.5tsp (probably closer to 1.75tsp) per 8oz bottled spring water.

Oh home made bread! It’s a favourite thing of mine to eat, but I haven’t baked much bread myself and the few loaves I’ve done have always been more dense than I planned.
