Ingredients: black tea, cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, black pepper, clove. Vermont nettles and calendula.

Tea Story: In honor of friend, mentor, and a man dedicated to humanitarian relief, our new Golden Lion tea pays tribute to Tekle Ab Tomlinson, who came to the United States in the early 1960’s from Ethiopia.

10% of the proceeds from the sale of Golden Lion tea will go to charity: water, a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries. The Meaning of Tea® is raising money to dig a water well in Ethiopia.

Tasting Notes: The spice elements of masala chai with a hint of herbs from our Vermont farm.

Steep Time & Water Temperature: 2 tablespoons to 12 oz water at 212o F/ 100o C. Steep 5 minutes. Sweeten and add milk to taste.

Food Pairing: Who needs food? The rich flavors stand well on their own.

Today I’m going to sipdown the samples that my cats chose for me AKA the sample bags they chewed on. Like all cats, my cats are terrible creatures…

I received a sample of this tea with my “The Meaning of Tea” DVD. The smell of the dry leaf really excited me. It was a nice balance of sweet and spicy smells. Smell is so connected to memory, and the smell of the brewed tea reminded me of being at my grandmother’s apartment and watching the movie Rebecca. Don’t ask me why!

This is a pretty yummy blend. It’s quite peppery, somewhat earthy, and would suit someone who doesn’t like too much sweet or cinnamon in their masala chai. This is making me want to try a masala chai puerh.

Blend of black tea, cardamon, cloves, black pepper, nettles, calendula blossoms. A not overly spiced spiced tea. Great flavor.
