First tasting note, so please bear with me. :)

Today I paid a visit to Northern Lights’ retail store, tucked away in the skyways of downtown Minneapolis. I spent some time browsing through their considerable collection of teas, and came away with a few to sample. This was one that caught my eye, and was recommended to me, but I couldn’t help but be wary – rose? I haven’t yet come across a black tea with rose that I’ve truly enjoyed, and I’m not a huge fan of overtly floral teas in general. However, not being one to refuse a chai blend, I brought it home and brewed myself a cup. Added some honey (this is probably not a tea you want to add milk to), and noted how amazing it smelled – slightly spicy, but the main scent was of sweet rose syrup (more foody than floral, i guess, if that makes sense). And it tasted pretty much the same way it smelled; mild rose syrup-y chai, no bitterness whatsoever. I really like this – it managed to far exceed my expectations, and it’s something I’ll be stocking up on regularly.

This black tea differs from other chai types in that it has a bit more of a fruity profile to it. Despite the unusual notes from the rose and safflower, the tea still makes a great latte with steamed milk and a touch of sugar. The black pepper is hardly noticeable at all, giving the tea an overall subtle taste. Highly aromatic.
