I am particular when it comes to chocolate flavored teas – chocolate anything for that matter, even just chocolate.
This is done well. It does not try to BE chocolate by over flavoring with some nasty chocolate crud that tastes nothing like chocolate.
Same with the mint – its minty but not trying to be too strong.
This is a nice balance!
It is very creamy! Let it cool down a bit and there is a malted milkshake flavor here!
I bet this would be awesome iced!
This is a sample from another order I made with Persimmon Tree but I highly recommend this to any chocolate mint lover!

Thanks to Sil for the sample!!
I like this one. Minty and chocolate but unique. Very astringent though, be careful of that. I don’t mind but I know others who would.
No milk or sugar added and it was rather sweet which contrasted well with the tart aspect. Not sure I’d keep it around but I sure did love my cuppa! :)
Rating: 81

Sample sipdown!! thanks again Sil :)
made it with milk and a touch of agave. I think it was better without. Still good, but… less complex!

I can’t help but think of Naked Persimmon
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FFH3mTq3bqs
by The Monkees…more specifically MIKE NESMITH!!!!
I LOVE The Monkees! Always have!
I’m really shocked they had this one on YouTube! LOL

Anyhow…this Intensely flavored rooibos smells AWESOMELY AWESOME!

I can see all of the ingredients and something that looks like dried apple but I don’t see that in the list of ingredients so maybe what I am seeing is a vanilla bean or something.
As it continues to infuse I am STILL THINKING it’s apple or some other like-kind of fruit…

The taste is a nice, bold, strong Chocolate and Mint Mix. It does hide quite a bit of the Rooibos taste but paired with the vanilla makes for a milky-smooth ending and aftertaste.

This is very good! I like this a lot!

As it cools the chocolate becomes more malty…almost like a chocolate milk shake type malty…this aspect of the taste interests me as I don’t recall having that happen to me in other tea/tisanes. Very Nice!

I LOVE YOU. No…I mean it…I LOVE YOU.
You. And Me. Let’s Do Lunch.
I’ll even buy you a slice of chocolate cheesecake.
You KNOW I mean business, now, don’t you?
Actually…this would be an AWESOME pairing with Chocolate Cheesecake now that I think of it.

I seriously LOVE this…so much so that I am going to up the rating :)
I’m sad, tho, because I only have one more bit of it to infusion…I think I am going to have to place a Persimmons Tree order at some point!

backlogging and LOVING it!

Thank you Sil for the sample of this!

I quite liked it. Made some tonight, was impressed with the color of it and that the flavours successfully camouflaged the rooibos taste. I didn’t feel like I was drinking rooibos!

Interestingly enough, I found the chocolate really jumped out at me with this one, and it was a nice chocolate taste. The mint was not overly powerful, just right.

Verdict: Yummy! Would consider buying a small amount to have around as a caffeine free option. Makes me want to try the Davidstea version to compare!

I’ve drank so much tea today. I was trying to have some smaller cups but didn’t really succeed. Also, only one was caffeine free and two were matchas. The other 4 were not caffeine free. heeeeeh.

I wasn’t sure what to expect with this tea – it’s only my second chocolate tea and the other was David’s Tea – Read my lips. What i love about this tea? It’s a totally different beast than the David’s tea! I was a little worried that they’d be too similar but where Read my Lips is all about the minty after taste that leaves me wanting more, this is a more subtle tea with more of the chocolate coming through. Overall a really nice tea for this evening.

Took some of this with me tonight when we went out to celebrate a friends birthday at Wvurst. Basically think cafeteria style seating with a bar and a place to order sausages! Gluten free option for one of our friends who can’t have gluten. Best part of the evening besides the tasty sausages? couple of friends we haven’t been able to hang out with on their own are going to drop by tomorrow for evening games, dinner and…tea! They’re curious about all this tea business and are willing to have me nerd out on them a bit. It’ll be nice to have another couple over. Now to find the gluten free teas :)

Anyway this was a nice contrast to the tasty tasty sausages and helped with that whole grease effect from the fries and such. Overall a pretty nice soft, sweet cup for a great day of tea drinking!

Not enough rooibos blends in my cupboard, especially not since i received my box of awesomeness from Terri :) Thought i’d have a cup of this tonight to see if memory stacks up to the reality. While this is still a nice blend, there’s a bit too much oily residue on top of the cup of tea. It still tastes delicious but not nearly as wonderful as it once was.

Mmmmm yay for pre really late dinner tea. I’d forgotten how tasty this tea is if you don’t overdo it in the steeping time. I like how minty it is, without feeling like its a mint tea as there IS chocolate

So I really wanted to mix this with winter fire from butiki but when I wasn’t looking my other half drank the last of it on me. HE loves spicy things heh. However, this was a nice end to the evening. I wanted something caffeine free or low in caffeine and this gave me that plus some minty chocolate goodness.

backlogging this from last night. I still really enjoying this one even though it’s a sbutler tea than . It was a nice topper to my evening as I got to curl up on the couch with my other half and watch some “Walking Dead”

It’s been a while since i’ve had this one and it’s a wonderful afternoon tea for this rainy day. It’s been dark outside here at work since about 11am so it’s felt like time to go home since then. It’s the kind of day where all i want is to curl up on the couch at home in my comfy clothes, watch a movie after dinner (of roast, mashed potatoes and gravy, corn on the cob) with a steaming cup of delicious wonderful tea….

My 10th sample from my The Persimmon Tree order and final one (for now, muhhahhahahaha). This one was a last minute dump into the cart as I’m not a rooibos fan, but I subconsciously keep trying to like rooibos.

DRY: One of those Andes chocolate mints, straight up. Lots of big and interesting chunks in this tea which after checking ingredients is apple. 2t used for this steeping.

STEEPED: Deep chocolate with mint. I opened the lid of my DavidTeas steeper and got blasted with a mint facial! Steeps up a slightly cloudy light brown.

TASTE: Minty chocolate, like an Andes chocolate mint candy. Slightly sweet. Rooibos isn’t very pronounced. A smooth and slightly creamy after taste. Good balance of refreshing mint. I found the tea a little watery, I think maybe more dry leaves would help, however I added some rock sugar into my cup and a splash of soymilk to help it out some.

WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: Rooibos haters (like me) and lovers, someone who wants a chocolately tea for a late dessert.

COMMENTS:
I wish I got DavidsTea Mint Chocolate Rooibos, it be great to compare to! However, I have “Read my Lips” which is harder to compare to “Mint Chocolate Chip” because it’s black tea, peppercorns and doesn’t have vanilla/etc.

This surprised me in not tasting horrible rooibos, however lost points for tasting a little watery weak. This tea would probably do well steeped stronger into a latte. Overall, the tea is well done, great for someone who isn’t into rooibos but wants no caffeine.

So, after tasting 10 of The Persimmon Tree teas, I gotta say all were really good. The ones that I didn’t dig were just not for me personally.

Impressed with how much this smells and tastes like mint chocolate chip ice cream (one of my favorite flavors) with some milk. Husband walked into the kitchen while it was steeping and was like “Mmmm! Smells good in here, like mint chocolate chip ice cream—where is it??” and was surprised when I explained it was tea. A very nice dessert option.

Thank you to TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some of this tea. It is yum!

This is excellent! If you like chocolate mint… you really should try this one. Even if you don’t like rooibos… you should try this one. I don’t taste much from the rooibos, but what I do taste is the chocolate and the mint and it is flavored so well! The chocolate is stronger than the mint (as well it should be, says this chocoholic), and the vanilla undertones provide a really nice, creamy accent to these flavors. This is so good. So very very good.

It’s strange, in an interesting way — I got a nice little Persimmon Tree sample package (thanks much, Starfevre!) labelled “Vanilla Berry Truffle”, but the tea inside is actually this one, “Mint Chocolate Chip”.

I’m certain of that, because it has none of the ingredients of the former (no white chocolate, no black currants, no hibiscus) — but it does smell of mint, it has big chunks of dark chocolate. And, as a few people here have noticed, it also has those pieces of apple which aren’t listed in the ingredients (at least not here on this page, I mean, and I don’t have the correct package to refer to).
(P.S. just updated the ingredients, from Persimmon Tree website)

Anyhow… that’s all good, because I’m pretty sure I’d prefer the Mint Choocolate Chip Rooibos, to the other one. (White chocolate isn’t something I’d reach for.)

So, the tea. I really like it. It’s nice and smooth, the mint is not too strong, the apple adds a nice hint of fruit. But I wish it tasted more of chocolate. Although I steeped it for 9 minutes in boiling water, a lot of the chocolate pieces didn’t melt. I think it would be perfect with some added chocolate syrup.

I added sugar and a little skim milk.
(Oops, I wonder why it says steep at 200F for 3-5 mins? I guess I overdid it. :-)
I have enough for another cup, so I’ll try it again the “right” way.)

This was my first experience with rooibus. Having read of its medicinal flavor, I thought coupling it with my absolute most favorite icecream flavors might be a good way to start.

When I opened the package I was thrilled with the dominant and familiar scents of mint and chocolate but a little put off by the unfamiliar aromatic background offered by the rooibus – but I was determined to persist.

I continued by preparing the liquid by following the recommended steeping directions precisely (1-2tsp, 200degF, 3-5 min) using a stainless steel tea infuser with my favorite ceramic mug. Except for the aromatic, the scent was strongly reminiscent of my favorite icecream and I began to sip with some enthusiasm – for a bit.

Although I enjoyed the flavor initially – the mint chocolate was component was perfect – but the aromatic background from the rooibus became tiresome rather quickly – as did the the somewhat chalky mouthfeel.

I guess I will need to experiment a bit with flavors and and steeping conditions. Perhaps in my enthusiasm for the minted chocolate flavor I oversteeped the tea. I guess I will need to get more sample to investigate.

I guess for me, rooibus based beverages may eventually fall into the “aquired taste” category as I definitely had the sense of possibility – and the prospect of a naturally caffeine-free hot night time beverage is still attractive.
