WOW! This is special. Its one of those teas you have for the first time and wonder how you lived without it for so long. The smell is intoxicatingly caramel. The leaf is so pretty with little bits of caramel and goodness here and there. Not sure what some of those little chunks are but they look pretty. :)
You absolutely can taste the green tea in this even with a nice presence of caramel.
So I really REALLY love caramel but more often than not caramel teas seem to disappoint me for some reason. Maybe I expect too much or perhaps the flavoring is too artificial in some cases. This tea delivers a true caramel flavor and a lovely green tea base that compliment each other wonderfully! Maybe somehow the rooibos helps in this blend.
I realize I have been a Persimmon Tree Tea fan girl as of late and there are a few flavors I have tired I did not care for but today has been a perfect 10 for their blends!
Oh and I got this for only .59 cents with my loyalty points and free shipping!
:) Yay!
I used three teaspoons for 16 ounces – you could go 4 teaspoons.

This is one of those blends that I wasn’t so sure about, mainly since caramel and green tea just don’t go together in my head. They seem like opposites, caramel is rich and desserty and green is light and refreshing. But this has some really rave reviews, and samples are so cheap. Impossible to resist!

In the little sample bag this smells deliciously good, like fresh candy corn and autumn. As good as it smells I was worried that the green would be lost, but steeped it’s quite the opposite. The green is bright, with grassy and fruity notes, and the caramel comes in at the end. It’s between a heavy and light flavor—it’s quite caramel-y and reminds me of GMT’s burnt sugar oolong, since while it’s rich it’s not heavy. In fact, I could see drinking this quite frequently as a morning or afternoon tea!

Thanks to Meowkattack for a sample of this.

When I first saw this tea I didn’t know what the heck to expect. Typically “caramel” stuff is reserved for black teas only. I wasn’t sure how this would work with a green tea base, but I have to say it’s not bad at all.

I agree with others that it works as a nice desert green tea, even though they typically aren’t thought of that way. Caramel lovers will not be disappointed..

Will Work For Tea

Thank you to QueenOfTarts for passing along a nice-sized sample of this! This is my first experience with The Persimmon Tree.

Upon opening the package, the leaf mixture smells sweet and caramely. I used 2 teaspoons of tea for 8 oz at the below parameters. The yellowish-brown liquor smells a tiny bit roasty and sweet. First few sips are toasty upfront, but end with the sweetness of caramel. Very interesting blend. I don’t really feel the need to put sweetener in this as it might overwhelm the toastiness of the tea, but I will for experience’s sake.

Post sweetener, the roastedness is much more muted, but the caramel really pops. Both ways are enjoyable! This is going on the shopping list!

Thanks again QueenOfTarts!

See my review of Mandarin Silk to read my little Persimmon Tree Tea Company story.

This was one of three teas I recently ordered from this company, I was not disappointed!

I had this after eating a chocolate and I still was able to notice the refreshing sweetness, AND taste the green tea in the most pleasant of ways!

I drank some while working on Season 4 of Doctor Who, I don’t have much left. I don’t know when the doctor switch up happens but I’m already sad about losing #10.

Tangent!

I’m pleased with this tea, I got the smallest tin but could see me reordering for sure. It’s fun to figure out what your staple teas should be by trying lots of new ones. :)

Brewed at 175 degrees for about 2 ish minutes.

Oh my god.

I need to bump this rating up from 83 as I really love this. So glad Persimmon Tree added a better shipping option for Canada as I’m really regretting not ordering the bigger size of this and Mandarin Cream.

If someone places an order that I can piggyback on, let me know! ;)

Probably the me from a year ago or even 4 months ago would have dismissed this as being too weak, not flavorful enough. But it’s so classy! It’s delicate and the base is tasty and sufficiently noticeable and the caramel is not a question! It’s an answer!

I thought I was looking for my holy grail caramel BLACK tea but I ended up accidentally finding the holy grail caramel GREEN tea. I usually only do two steeps as I find (with all teas though) after that it is too weak and watery for me. I should try cold brewing the leftovers of these precious leaves.

I want to drink it everyday but it’s kind of a rare commodity in my cupboard because I don’t have much. And even though Persimmon Tree thankfully added a better shipping option for Canada, it’s still $15. But I will return!

This is a backlog from a few days ago. Unfortunately I failed to take good notes about this tea, but I do remember that the flavour was quite reminiscent of creme caramel rooibos teas (which I thoroughly enjoy), although there was a definite sencha flavour that I was able to pick out. However, I decided that although this is good, I’m likely to stick with straight rooibos versions if only for ease of infusion. However, this tea is quite tasty, and I will happily finish off my sample packet (paying close attention to infusion time/temperature!)

Another small sample from the Persimmon Tree…

hmm, this is pretty nice! It’s a Chinese green, I believe with a bit of green rooibos and some caramel flavors. I saw a few little round pods in my dry tea, not exactly sure what that was. This is definitely on the sweet side which would make it more of a dessert tea for me, though I am not finding the sweetness to be too overwhelming which is nice. It has a nice caramel flavor and aroma. I might consider a small can of this for when those after lunch cookie cravings arise. :)

I’m finishing off the rest of this sample today. This is a nice dessert tea – you definitely get the caramel element and it is slightly sweet but no weird aftertaste. I would consider getting this again. Just upped the score a few points…

Upon opening the package to examine the leaves, I noticed this round tan color thing. Looked like a small chickpea. Since I didn’t know what it was, I bit it. Mmmm…chewy caramel. I ate the whole thing. :D How much would it have added, really? hehe

This tea smells decadent. But the fresh greenness of the base makes it light. It’s just a sweet little something, not a full blown dessert. Very nice. Often caramel flavored teas are so heavy and rich. This is rich but not heavy. I’m so glad I got to try this! Thanks AlphaKitty!

That said, it does have, what I’ve come to recognize as, a Chinese sencha base. Probably my least favorite tea. Yet, it’s a common tea to use in green blends, probably due to affordability. But this blend was made with such skill that I could overlook the base. :) Tasty! I’d be happy to finish the rest of my sample.

Prior to infusing the aroma of this reminded me of my Grandfather because it smelled like his Almond Pistacho Ice Cream he used to eat! As I infused this it morphed to Mostly Caramel scented with a little green tea scent underneath.

This is the song I am choosing for this one

I did sip this right away after my infusion was complete and thought it it was pretty good…a nice combo of green tea and caramel. But as the liquid cools at room temperature for a little bit I noticed the magic happen! The Caramel Flavor doubles! It’s very yummy! The Caramel is genuine and helps cut the craving for sweets, I suppose!

This is really terrific!

The caramel is center of attention here but the green tea flavor is noticeable in the background, too, and there is a little Rooibos sweetness coming thru but not very much but that is ok because I wouldn’t change it!

Another winner from this company! They are 3/3 in my book so far!!!

YUM. I know I am redundant today but YUM.
This hit the spot…check out my other notes on this one…

Still LOVE this one…both hot and cold…had one cup of each earlier today…see previous notes

Light, nutty, sweet! LOVE it! :) Backlogging…see previous notes…

My second tea to try from Persimmon Tree. I thought I’d do them in order that I think would be the ones I was more excited to try first, but this morning, nada. I am nursing a broken finger that just came out of the splint. I wanted to soak it in epsom salt and didn’t want to turn the kettle too high. Low temperature green tea it is!

DRY: Sweeeeeeet caramel (maybe salty caramel, but not sure if it’s just all in my mind for the salty smell?) Oh man! SOOOOOO strong of a scent (similar to how my last persimmon tea smelled very strong dry). Really cute cubes of caramel in this tea!

STEEPED: Green tea colour. Mix of a grassy green tea smell and sweet caramel.

TASTE: Very clean green tea at first sip with a splash of mildy sweet caramel and earthyness (rooibos) at the end mellowing and coating the throat in soft sweetness.

WHO’D LIKE THIS TEA: Green tea drinkers. people new to green tea. Peeps who like to drink caramel.

COMMENTS: DANG!
I see others who reviewed this used more dry tea than I did, I just used 1.5t! I can see this being even better if made a bit stronger.

This is mind blowingly good and well executed tea. The green tea is very good (not muchly grassy) and the caramel flavor just melts into my mouth as I sip the tea. It’s in the perfect range of caramel taste to be mild and easy to taste, but not too subtle.

I guzzled my first cup down and wished I made a pot of this instead. It is amazingly good. I would usually prefer a sweet caramel tea to be ultra strong sweet, but this tea is just so well done. Holy crap Persimmon Teas, you are blowing my pants off!

This tea is SO yummy! I love it!

The green tea/rooibos base is a light-to-medium bodied base, it tastes creamy yet light and very refreshing. There is a slight nutty flavor to the tea that adds a nice dimension to the caramel taste. Sweet and yummy – a perfect dessert tea!

This is for sure a dessert tea for me. Love the caramel notes but it’s not something I’d drink all day long. Really nice blend of green tea and caramel though. This will be nice after dinner when it’s a bit colder outside :)

Farewell my dear green caramel! SIPDOWN! This was one of the first teas i ordered when i was exposed to so many different teas through steepster. I have to say over time it hasn’t lost it’s happy place with me. I still find it quite enjoyable, though there are many other teas out there that i prefer. So far though, in terms of green caramel teas – The Persimmon Tree is my go to.

mmmm afternoon dessert tea to have before my meeting. It’s nice to just take a moment to relax and watch the snow fall. Sooo much snow, it makes me giddy! This blend still makes me happy with it’s delicious caramel taste. Likely a reorder as i’m nearly at the end of my small tin.

Man I haven’t had this one in AGES….this is a really nice blend of caramle and green. Bumping up the rating a little :) If it weren’t for their insane shipping to canada i’d be buying more from the persimmon tree company. I’ll likely be restocking this one though when i run out because i love me some caramel! :)

Still loving this tea. I woke up this morning still sore from my workout session on Monday – nothing says HELLO MONDAY! like a kick in the face from a personal trainer let me tell you lol In any case, I couldn’t bring myself to try a new tea this morning even though my table’s still got tea on it, and more’s coming. Instead I wanted a tea that wouldnt disappoint. It’s been a bit cooler in the mornings, to the point where I know need to wear a sweater in to work. While i love the fresh cool air (i am NOT a fan of humidity coming from the prairies originally), this morning it just made me want to curl up under the covers and snuggle in next to my other half.

Sadly, this was not allowed. So instead I comforted myself with a sweeter, creamy tea that was as close to curling up under the blankets as I could get. The caramel mixed in with the green was a perfect hit.

Bumping the rating on this one as it’s grown on me a bit. I really like the way the caramel blends with the green tea. I’d order this one again from the persimmon tree for sure.

MMMMMMMMMMM afternoon tea! It’s been a day of chaos here at work so even though I haven’t manage to get time for lunch (yes i know that’s bad and yes, it IS after 4pm…) I found 5 mins to boil some water and toss this into a cup to sip on my next conference call.

I haven’t had this in a while so I’m really digging the caramel notes. I’d forgotten just how much i really enjoy this delicious tea from the Persimmon Tree Tea. I just wish I could justify the shipping to be able to order from them more often. Sadly this may have to wait to come off my shopping list until next year when I get down to the US again. :(

I highliy recommend giving them a shot though if you’re in the US as they have some wonderful teas!

It needed a warm tea to end the night. I’ve been reacting strongly to cinnamon lately so I wanted to stay away from any tea with even a bit of it in it. I still enjoy this tea a bunch. It’s a really light, creamy green tea.

Dropping teh rating on this one a bit. While its still a lovely tea, I think there are more out there that are now to my liking. Tis was one of the first flavoured teas I tried :) still a nice blend of caramel, green….a sweet dessert tea.

mmmm I really like how the flavours in this one blend together without overpowering one another. While I’d normally have this later in the day, I decided to start my day out with it for a treat. It’s my second last day of this job and today is day 3 with the personal trainer so I need a little pick me up! :)

My second taste of a rooibos blend (first being Adagio’s Foxtrot) and I think I am probably going to be a fan of it!

From the leaves I got almost entirely a caramel smell, but on the brewed tea I noticed a medicinal smell as well. The combo of the rooibos’ earthy flavor and caramel made each mouthful seem almost /filling/. Like a mouthful of something other than liquid (maybe sort of yoghurt-y?), which was quite good.

Thank you alphakitty for this sample.

Though green teas are not my favourite, this is a pretty tolerable green tea. The green is especially forceful at the beginning of the sip with the caramel coming in toward the end and strong in the aftertaste, which lingers briefly. The flavour is stronger and brighter when cooled, sort of smothered when hot. I don’t want to drink this again, but I’m glad I tried it. It’s been a green tea day.

I really enjoyed this tea. Have you ever tried matcha green tea ice cream? This tea tastes exactly like a delicious scoop of green tea ice cream with the perfect drizzle of caramel over the top. It is sweet, but not overpoweringly so. A perfect blend of a more dessert style green tea. Was not disappointed.

I have not ventured out very far into the world of green teas, so this was an interesting one for me. I like rooibos, but have never tried a green tea/rooibos blend. The flavor is pretty earthy and then follows up with caramel at the end. The caramel comes out a bit more as the tea cools. I’m just going to keep drinking and see how it goes. Thank you yappychappy!

Now I guess this is what you’d call a “dessert tea”. It’s really good! Smooth, sweet, very caramelly. (Thanks, Starfevre!)
I used the 2-tsp sample in about 12-14 oz of water. Added sugar and milk.
