Plantain Coconut Raw Green Bush Tea

Fruit Rooibos Blend by The Republic of Tea

Smooth and mellow raw green rooibos makes an ideal base for a traditional island duo – sweet plantain banana with a touch of fragrant coconut.

Low in tannins, it’s like a vacation in a cup — hot or iced.

Ahhhh….now this is great tea! I’ve been really impressed with the teas I’ve sampled (thanks to *Jaime) from RoT’s Raw Green Bush line.

This tea smells heavenly, sweet coconut water with plantains. It is blended so harmoniously the taste is just like velvet, but lighter. This tastes like a flavored water version of a coconut banana smoothie. I will definitely be buying more of this tea. This is sooooo good!

Drank up the last of the sample bags Jaime sent me. I must get a tin in the near future as I really enjoy the banana flavor in this tisane. Very mild and sweet and green.

AWESOME!

This is really good. The plantain tastes a lot like banana – but not quite… it has a starchier flavor – this is very true to a plantain taste… or at least, true to what I remember a plantain tastes like, it’s been a while! And the coconut is delightful in this blend … a very nice balance of the tropical flavors. The green rooibos is not strongly distinguishable, but I can taste it’s fresh, somewhat fruity, somewhat woodsy, sweet note that it imparts.

This is really good. It would be awesome iced too.

Wow, I just realized that I haven’t yet written a full-length review for this tea! I guess I’m going to have to do that soon.

Anyways, I really like this one. It is the first that I tried of the raw green bush offerings from The Republic of Tea. Yummmmmmmy!

I’m TRYING to be open minded here…
I HATE BANANAS!!!! I mean I HATE Bananas!
BUT…I have had Plantains in a bake that I bought in the freezer section from Kashi and thought that Plantains were ok.

Also…I like Bananas Bread. WEIRD.

So…here goes…

It smells like bananas but the coconut also helps that. Thankfully. It’s a very light colored liquid NOT as bright, vibrant, dark, or richly colored as most Rooibos or Green Rooibos’s even.

THANKFULLY I can taste the coconut more than the Plantain. YAY! I can’t individually or harshly say I can taste the Rooibos above the other ingredients but it contributes to the over all sweetness and even the smoothness of it. It’s unique.

I think if any company would have done this any different I would have not liked it at all. I really think it HAS to have the coconut and the Rooibos in there to accompany the Plantain. RoT gave this one some real thought. I appreciate that! Usually I would NEVER buy something like this blind but because LiberTEAs sent me some I tried and I was surprised! This is alright! Even for someone who HATES Bananas like me!

The more I drink this the more appreciation I have for it. And the more I sip on this the more plantain flavor I am tasting is quite comparable to that of the plantains I have had in that Kashi Microwavable Meal I mentioned above.

Interesting. Surprising. Creative. Innovative. Different.

This not-tea has gotten such good reviews here, when I saw it at the grocery store today I had to pick it up. After all, I’m always looking for herbal teas for evenings and I do enjoy coconut. I don’t always have much luck with rooibos, but fingers crossed!

It smells… interesting. Every so often I get a banana Runts smell from it, but when I stick my nose in the cup and sniff, I get creamy, milky, starchy green-ness. The green rooibos smell is obvious (it smells like chamomile to me) but with extra sweetness and fruit.

The taste is actually pretty good. I get a hint of Runts bananas (the only Runts I detest) but it’s balanced by a more natural tasting sweetness from the green rooibos and the coconut creamy sweetness. The Runts-ness goes away as it cools a little, leaving a banana + chamomile flavor that seems very plantain-y to me, plus a smoothness that implies coconut cream. The end result is something light, sweet, and tropical, almost piña colada-y. I could easily see this flavor profile served cold in slushie form and with a little paper umbrella in it.

The plantain is definitely showcased here! The yummy banana coconut flavor brightened my afternoon. :) First time trying raw green bush, either its subtle or the other flavors are masking it, as I didn’t really detect it.

Edited to add: Thank you Jaime for sending this to me!!

First, “Thank you, Jamie” for sending me this sample along with all the others, you are so generous.

I am so HAPPY I had the chance to try this tea, it is mostly plantain in flavor and slightly coconutty. I absolutely LOVE the raw green roobios tea I think mostly because the flavor of the green versus the red is more in the background. I find that the red is far more in your face. As such that means you really don’t have to over flavor the tea to get a nice balanced flavor. I can’t wait to try the rest of the raw bush teas. This is delicious and I will be buying it. Highly recommended!

Mmm…banana. I don’t usually like banana flavored things unless the flavor comes directly from bananas. It usually ends up tasting too fake. This tea however seems to do it right. Lovely fruity banana with a somehow tangy fruity coconut. Very tasty. I also enjoy this green rooibos base. Light and green and refreshing. This is a great cold tea.

Cold brewed overnight in a mug of water. Convenient and tasty. Thank you, TeaEqualsBliss for sending me some!

Man this tea smells awesome; it’s all banana-y and coconut-y. I think I need to steep the teabag longer because the flavour is a little weak, but I love the tropical, fruity flavours in this cuppa. The rooibos flavour is barely there, providing a good, solid background to the other flavour notes.

Thank you for sharing the bounty with me, Jaime!

I had seen some good recommendations for this tea so I decided to try it. I was unsure of how I would like it as I do not normally drink rooibos teas. I was very pleasantly surprised! I love it! The banana really comes through and taste great! Not artificial like alot of banana teas. I added a small amount of rock sugar and it was a nice sweet cup!

Increasing my rating on this tea…. I am REALLY enjoying this. I will have to place another order this one is disappearing quickly!

I like bananas, and I like coconut, so after reading about this tea on Steepster and magically finding it in the grocery store, I had to get it!
I double tea-bagged my cup because I like strong tea. I have a feeling I will be drinking a lot of this – I love the flavors even though I wish it was a little stronger. It reminds me of eating banana chips.

I’ve been bringing bags of this to school so I can drop a couple in my to go mug at lunch and fill it with (free) hot water. I like this – it doesn’t wow me and I still think the flavor is a bit on the weak side, but I like the coconut and banana flavors, they are not at all artificial-tasting. It’s a nice middle of the day tea when I don’t need caffeine!

Today is coconut day. I made beans with coconut. Now I grabbed this wonderful tea! I received this in a swap from QueenofTarts. Thank you so much! I received a lot of bags of this.

The liquor was a dark yellow green. It smells SO FRICKIN DELICIOUS! The sweet and starchy scent reminds me very much of slightly sweetened plantains and coconut. I have never tried green rooibos plain, so I’m going to make it a point to try it plain one day. Anyhow, this flavored rooibos left me in awe. The coconut is but a hint, but it is there. It tastes real. The plantains taste real too. I felt like I was biting into a sweetened plantain. Man I miss eating sweetened plantains. I can’t seem to make it right here.

RAVE – this herbal rocks! I need this in my life.

From Jaime!

I do not like banana flavored teas and I’m not a fan of coconut- but since a really under-ripe banana takes like cucumber, I’m hoping that’s what plantain tastes like in tea.

1 bag/8oz water/11min

Nope I was wrong. A strong banana type flavor w/ coconut coming in second w/ a solid but smooth green bush base. I personal “meh…” to me, but a must try for anyone that enjoys banana and/or coconut teas. Would probably be good as a latTEA.

My past experience with green rooibos hasn’t been so good. I adore red rooibos, but the green…well, the green never tasted nearly as good. In spite of all that, I have been wanting to try this tea fora long while, mostly because it has gotten such good reviews and after all, it IS still rooibos.
I admit I expected not to like this, as I have not liked the other green rooibos teas I’ve tried in the past.

I was not prepared to LOVE this tea. Wow this is good! I have no idea what plantain tastes like, but this tea has a banana flavor that is noticeable but gentle. The coconut is not so prominent, but a hint of flavor mixed with the green rooibos base.

Green rooibos has been redeemed :)

I can’t always eat bananas. I have intermittent allergic reactions. The flavor of fake bananas gives me a headache. This is scrumptious! I’m not sure I can taste the coconut, but I ate a granola bar before I ate it. I’ll rate it again later :) I really really like that I can drink this!

I’m nomming it. I think I used too many bags though. Syrup-y!

I first bought this tea a year ago and I now buy it in the bulk bag. It’s fantastic iced, and I can easily drink an entire pitcher of this tea a day in the summer.

This green rooibos tea has a light fresh flavor with a slight sweetness from the plantain, and there’s a lovely coconut finish. Plantain and coconut are an obvious winning combination. This may be my all time favorite iced tea.

I was really looking forward to trying this tea after reading all the great reviews on Steepster – I definitely like green roobois a lot better than red! I found the plantain and coconut to be mild. I was hoping for something a little stronger as I mean to drink this primarily as a dessert tea, so I will try two bags next time. Above average but I would not buy this one again.

I made some of this earlier today as an iced tea, But I think I actually prefer it hot with some soymilk. It is better than I remember it, so I bumped the rating up a bit today. I think perhaps the reason I like it is that I steeped it for so long earlier today (an hour?) that seems to have brought forth the flavor much better.

I have been trying to de-cupboard especially in terms of herbal tea. These RoT teabags are so wimpy…. I cut them open and used 4, yes FOUR contents of loose leaf teabags to get a nice big cup of tea. So it is more enjoyable this way, I still found the plantain flavor to be oddly lacking but adding some soymilk seemed to help with that somehow. I think loose leaf is the way to go with RoT but I don’t see this particular flavor in a loose leaf form on their site.

The afternoon cuppa. We are getting rained on all weekend and I wanted something warm without caffeine.

I am not thrilled with this blend but since I have almost an entire can, well… you know how it goes! I did add a sugar cube to it, that turned out to be a mistake, too sweet, bluh. I will try cold brewing this one if/when the weather gets warmer

First of all, thank you QueenOfTarts for sending this!

I love this! The plantain is the most prominent flavour and it adds a lovely starchiness to the cup. The coconut is more in the background and compliments the plantain beautifully. The green rooibos (my first!) is lovely and sweet and I think I might prefer it over red rooibos. This is so smooth and had so much flavour!

Now I’m craving banana bread.

All of the teas I have had today have had coconut in them. How odd. I made this during a rehearsal earlier and it managed to get me through a particularly boring couple of hours with its sweet, starchy flavour.

This was extra tasty today, probably because I have been craving this for a while now and have refrained from drinking it as I don’t have much left. Starchy banana and green rooibos, yum! I can’t really taste the coconut, but I think it is imparting a lightness and tropical-ness that I would miss if the coconut were not present.

I ordered this tea because I’d read some of the reviews on Steepster and I was so impressed that I had to give it a try!

the results??

Delicious!

I can taste the plantain the most, and that combined with the coconut smell is lovely. I’d love to have this iced with rum in the summer, I think it would make an excellent cocktail.

I am not a huge flavored tea love, but I love this one. The green rooibos compliments the green rooibos quite well. If you like green tea, and bananas, this is a fun tea to try.

Very banana. I think I can see some coconut. Maybe. But I don’t think I like banana in my tea. Or banana flavoring in general. But I do like bananas. I think banana flavoring doesn’t actually taste like banana, but this flavor is closer than most. But not a fan, though for what it is (banana tea), it is relatively good.
