I got this from Kristin! Apparently I have somehow gotten off RoT’s mailing list, so I didn’t get this in the mail myself. Boo. Well, I feel lousy- I’ve been dragging for days. So a new tea is a lovely thing. I actually expected to dislike this immensely. I hate pomegranate teas most of the time… BUT I don’t dislike this one. (Notice that I tried it anyway, because I’ll try any tea once.)
It’s actually sweet with a berry undertone. My sister used to like these Cherry Creamsaver Lifesavers… and it’s like that, but less artificial tasting.

I have a ton of reading to do for class and I’m sooo not in the mood. So I dug deep into the recesses of my cupboard for something to motivate me and came up with a bag of this tea. This is the only bag I have. I received a sample of it when I ordered The Republic of Tea catalog last month. I’ve been saving the bag for a rainy day, and though it isn’t rainy outside, its perky pink packaging was enough to cheer me up to face 100+ pages of textbook reading.

The smell is great. The tart pomegranate is what I smell mostly. But it’s a happy-go-lucky sort of smell – not so tart as to call to mind spinster aunts. ;) The pomegranate is also very present in the taste of this tea. I don’t taste the vanilla nor the rooibos, but the tartness of fruit is tempered by a slightly sweet and very smooth quality. I was afraid it was going to taste like “fruit” juice (as in the kind of beverage with only 17% real juice), but there was none of that.

I drank the first infusion plain and that was pleasant enough. I added a spoonful of sugar to the second infusion, that was quite good too. I might attempt a third infusion, we’ll see. Overall, this was an amiable tea.

Okay that is so weird I was just looking through my old tasting notes and I saw this tea which I did not know I logged. I had this last weekend. And definitely enjoyed it! I was surprised that I had previously given it a 56 and said it was too sour because I was pleasantly surprised at how un-sour this tea was…

I didn’t really like this tea. I thought it was kind of sour and I couldn’t taste the vanilla at all.

I received another sample of this in the mail. Steep is a dark red-brown. It is sweet-smelling. It tastes light and fruity. Not so tart, which is nice.

Tasty! I got this as a free sample. I can taste the rooibos and vanilla with a hint of fruity pomegranate. It was very mild but there was a nice tart aftertaste to it. It tastes and smells very good!

Sample that Mom got with her Republic of Tea catalog (she ordered tea for me a while back).

I really enjoy this one!! The vanilla is strong and creamy, and the pomegranate is fruity and tart. Very creamy and dessert-like. The red rooibos isn’t a strong flavor in this one, but it is still detectable. Definitely a tea I’d purchase!!

So I can’t quite get a grip on this tea.. there is a lot going on. It tastes tangy and slightly sweet. It has a kind of calm fruity presence. The funny thing is.. I don’t really taste either pomegranate or vanilla, so where are the flavors coming from? What I love is the tingling effect it brings to my tongue — I think that might be from the ‘fruit’ aspect of the tea. This might be a good tea to have iced as well. Overall, this tea is enjoyable!

I too received this as a sample and I thought it was ok, but that’s really all I can say which means I won’t be purchasing it but wouldn’t turn down a cup if offered.

Quite tart, but the vanilla provides a nicely sweetness that’s almost smoky. It’s not too tart, or too sweet, but the flavors are frustratingly indistinct.

I received a free bag of this when I ordered The Republic of Tea’s catalog. I’m not a fan and I love rooibos. This tastes mostly of stale rooibos and a little pomegranate. I mostly SMELL the pomegranate, not taste it. The vanilla is barely there in the aftertaste.

Oh well, at least it was free. You just can’t beat free tea.

Trying out this tea since it’s late night and too much caffeine screws up my sleep schedule. :-)

I LOVE pomegranate so was excited to try out a sample of this rooibos blend. The initial smell of the tea is strong and candy-sweet, more like hibiscus and honey than pomegranate. After it’s steeped, most of the flavor in this tisane is from the smell instead of the liquor. If you had a cold, you wouldn’t taste too much of this tea because of it’s bland, indistinct flavor after the initial tartness. However, the liquor is thick and almost heavy on the tongue. The tea coats the tongue and leaves a lingering but very faint finish of vanilla and fruity red berries.

I’m not sure where the pomegranate is. Overall the tea is not bad. It would be worse if it had an overwhelming taste. It’s just not that astounding either far as taste.

Saw this at work today and I was curious. I usually don’t like rooibos, but I make an effort to try them from time to time.

Anyway, all I had was honey to sweeten it, so I tried it plain first. It’s a little on the sour side, which was unexpected, and the vanilla taste is very strong. It lingers in the mouth in a pleasant way. And while the taste reminds me of an air freshener my grandmother used to have, it’s not bad. I definitely can taste the pomegranate (and not that weird artificial pomegranate taste some teas have). I added a dollop of honey after that and the flavor was improved, but it probably would have been better with sugar. The taste of the actual rooibos is practically non-existent.

My verdict is that this is drinkable, but not something I would pick up at the store myself. I can see others liking it a lot.

Okay, so I really like rooibos tea, which means that I like this one too.
The smell is sweet like candy, and the taste is rooibos and pomegranate. The flavour of the pomegranate is light. It smells more than it tastes, if that makes sense. I could taste the pomegranate more as my tea cooled off than when it was hot. I can’t smell or taste the vanilla at all so I would say that you will only notice the vanilla if you have a really good sense of smell and taste, or are very experienced with tasting flavours in teas.

I enjoy rooibos tea blends that have a little something extra. I happened upon a single tea bag jammed in the back of the communal tea box in my office, being first attracted to the bright pink, silky packaging and cheery illustrations that ultimately made the tea feel that much more special. The tea itself is just as complex as the packaging. It was delicious to savor the layers of sweet vanilla and pomegranate over the earthy taste of rooibos in this tea while enjoying a peaceful afternoon.

I got this tea as a free sample with a Republic of Tea catalog. It has a lovely fragrance as it steeps, and the flavor and smell both reflect the pomegranate and vanilla without either dominating or overpowering. The resulting tea is very fresh and pleasant, but a bit boring. I’ll drink this again if its given to me but I won’t seek it out or buy it. It’s nice, but nothing really special.
