Yesterday I cleaned out my closet and purged it of old clothes and shoes. Today, my daughter and granddaughter (who is 5’9 like I ‘was’) came over to ‘shop’ from my closet before I haul everything away. (We’re at different stages of weight loss)
We inevitably get the giggles. I have no idea what sets us off…but I end up crying with laughter, they laugh…and pretty soon we can’t stop. Every little thing is hilarious. There were clothes scattered about while we trapsed in front of the mirror like proud teenagers posing outragiously. We had no shame! The women in my family have fun together, and act crazy!

I really am a Blessed woman.

After my laughing and silliness was over and I was alone again, I chose this silky Coconut Oolong for my evening tea. It had been some time since I last tasted a fragrant, tropical coconut tea.

I let the steeping time go about 3 minutes before pouring. The flavor was exactly as I wished, floral and very coconuty. It reminded me of a creamy coconut milk. There was juiciness with very little tannin.
I added sweetening, prefering a coconut cream pie dessert tea to add the finishing touch to a good evening. I tried adding some cream then coconut milk but prefered the tea with sweetening only.

This tea is a naturally flavored Coconut Tea,…one of the things that is becoming important to me. I can taste the difference. There isn’t any sour aftertaste from chemicals. The flavors that linger are delicate, pleasant and authentic.

A Really Good Coconut Oolong!

Indigobloom

Ahhh I love this tea! mmmm

DaisyChubb

mmmm is right

TeaEqualsBliss

Bonnie!!! I haven’t had a Coconut Oolong in a while! Now I want one!!! :) (I was going to send you a PM the other day but I couldn’t because you aren’t following me – but I’m following you! teehee)

Bonnie

OK Tea=Bliss following. (When I joined Steepster I didn’t initially follow anyone with lots of followers because I figured we couldn’t have a real interaction if I was lost in a crowd)

CHAroma

Sounds like the closet purge was really fun! I seriously need to make a few trips to Goodwill myself. I have waaaay too many clothes!

Kittenna

Interesting thought, Bonnie! I initially opted to follow people with many tasting notes and followers; I guess I wasn’t looking for personal interactions to start out?

Bonnie

I thought that if I had any questions, I wouldn’t be able to ask someone who had so many followers that they wouldn’t ever read my note.

Missy

I have a different tactic than both of you. I tried to follow any one who showed interest in teas I’m not familiar with. I thought I would be able to make a better judgement call when trying new teas.

CHAroma

@Missy, I did the opposite. I initially only followed people who had the same tastes as me. But now I like to follow people who are good writers, regardless of their taste preferences. It’s more fun when people share stories about their lives and have genuinely nice personalities.

Bonnie

I’ve changed. Listen, I joined in January this year…that’s it. After awhile I started looking for good reviewers too and not quantity reviewers. I also pick up newbees and try to send samples to get them on their way. I have a hard time multi-tasking with my brain misfire issues so I took it really slow at first. Now everyone is like family and so nice. I have much more confidence. I was surprised that anyone read my reviews and commented or followed me at all! It was a complete shock!

Kittenna

CHAroma – after my initial ‘followings’, I started following anyone who commented on my tastings notes or who responded to a comment I made, but now it’s definitely all about tasting note quality (which includes personal stories – I love when people treat this as a blog!)

Kittenna

And Bonnie – I was initially shocked that people read/commented on my reviews too! A nice sort of shocked, though :D This place is pretty great!

Tawny Kira

I was totally shocked that anyone would follow me when I joined not that long ago. I have always loved tea, but as for loose leaf and the many varieties other than the black tea and occasional greens that I drank I am still just venturing out and exploring. I found Steepster to be so much more than a tea reviewing website, but a real community and everyone I have “met” on here is so friendly and personable, not to mention encouraging and helpful! I am so glad I joined!

Tawny Kira

now onto what I had originally intended to write before reading all the comments! This tea sounds delicious- imagine blending it with just a slight hint of a dark chocolate flavored tea or a little vanilla flavored tea- it would be like drinking cake! :D

Ninavampi

I still smile and feel warm and fuzzy when someone starts following me. I love reading what others have to say about tea. I agree with Krystaleyn about personal stories! It is great to interact with such a neat crowd! :)

Oh, lovely coconut oolong… where have you been all my life? Hands down, this is the best coconut oolong that I’ve ever had the pleasure of drinking. Oolong is most definitely my favorite tea, and I really love coconut, too.

This is by far the most aromatic tea I’ve smelled to date. The coconut permeates everything. It’s very nice, though, and not the sugary sweet coconut, but instead a fresh coconut scent.

195F (90C)/3 min – The scent is still very present and the flavor is extraordinary! I have to say that this tea gives milk oolong a run for its money. Because of the coconut, however, it requires a certain taste and if one isn’t in the mood, then it wouldn’t be as much of a pleasure to drink. The oolong is lovely. It’s not a roasted oolong, but more of a medium, fresh tasting one. It has a toasty flavor, which only enhances the coconut.

Thank you, Indigobloom, for the tea share! :) I loved it.

whoa, it must be good if it rivals milk oolong…

Matthew Magnuson

Is this a coconut Baozhong? I haven’t tried many coconut oolongs. The ones I have tried were great, but not match for a nice Jin shuen! I’ll look into this particular tea.

Infusin_Susan

You had me at “toasty,” QG. I am going to have to check this out!

QuiltGuppy

@Matthew – I’m not certain if it’s a Baozhong, but I don’t believe so. Baozhong tends to be more floral and light, but this one was definitely a bit more pronounced, but not a strong oolong either.

@Infusin_Susan – I can’t imagine being disappointed by this tea, unless you dislike coconut. :)

@teawing – It really was a perfect morning tea. :) Alas, it’s all gone, or I’d send you some.

Indigobloom

I’m so glad!! I had a feeling you would love this one as much as I do! it really is unbeatable… one day I’ll buy a whole pound of it!!

teawing

QG: maybe I can get a sample from Indigobloom when she gets
a pound. I have some Vietnamese Per-uh to trade!

teawing

Oops it is late, that should have been pu-erh otherwise known as pee-you.
:)

Indigobloom

Teawing, I am heading down to Florida for the holidays in a few weeks, if you’re still interested in a trade… I am hoping to buy a whole tin of this! :)

teawing

@indigobloom A trade would be good but my cupboard is pretty bare.
What about a partnership? I would go in with you on a quantity purchase…

Indigobloom

definitely!! in that case, check out their website… let me know if you want anything else from there :)
-They had a deal last time, buy four, get one free I think it was. (samples)

teawing

Ok, I will split the oolong with you, then for samples, I might like the Jade Cloud Green and Chai Black. PM me when you go and we can work out the details. :)

So I had some fannings of this left over, which I’ve been saving for eons now… for what I don’t know… but after all the talk recently about which is the best Coconut Oolong, and my recent lack of appreciation for said tea genre, I decided to use up the dust and see if memory serves me.
Turns out, that despite this being two years old, and 90% dust, this is still the best coconut oolong I’ve ever had.
The coconut is very sweet, in a natural and unassuming yet upfront way that seduces me like no other while the green roasted oolong note is blended so perfectly that it took three infusions to find where they separate. In fact, for awhile I compared coconut milk to this and thought “my coconut tea is so much better!”
Oh man, this brought me back to my tea “newbie” days when everything was incredible and fresh to my palate. How I miss those days sometimes!
So yep, I’m quite pleased to know that it still tastes like home, and I look forward to the day when I’m reacquainted with this delightful blend.
Next time I go to John’s Pass(Florida), you can be sure I’ll be scooping some up. And that’s coming from a newfound coconut disliker!
Anyhow, based on this experience alone, I’d rate the cup around 87, but considering the circumstances I’ll leaving the rating as is for now.

P.S. Sipdown! a sad one, but still a sipdown. 244 left to go!

Fjellrev

Thanks, as if I need more teas on my shopping list. :)

whatshesaid

I will have to try and get some of this!

Indigobloom

Incendiare, LOL this one is worth it!!
Whatshesaid, it’s really smooth! Only one that comes close for me is from the American Tea Room

Spice & Tea

Glad to hear you enjoyed it!

thanks Spice & Tea! I look forward to having it in my cupboard again one day

Awwww! Indigobloom was incredibly generous and gave me her last/close to last bit of this tea to try for myself! As part of an ENORMOUS amount of other samples! So excited; naturally I had to start trying things tonight, and clearly started with this one :D

Short note b/c I shouldn’t be on here at all. Too much work left.

It smells much like Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong to me. Kind of a toasty, tasty coconut flavour. Taste-wise it’s similar, but better. In which way, you ask? Damned if I know :P I suspect it’s the base, actually. I don’t recall exactly what I thought of Coconut Pouchong, but although I liked it, I seem to remember feeling like something was off. Definitely not the case here. I clearly should have brewed up about four infusions of it while I was downstairs, but now am going to have to wait until tomorrow (so tired).

Definitely leaving this on my purchase list for some time in the distant future. It is delicious. Thanks again Indigobloom! :D

ETA: Second infusion, same parameters, is pretty good. Quite coconutty. I would like to taste more oolong, but it’s quite lovely. Perhaps I’ll go for a third before I sleep tonight; we’ll see.

heheeeee, SO glad you like this one!
You and Azzrian actually split the last of my last bit that I had found.
I think this is the only tea that can move me to order online. I will be doing that in a few months!

Yogini Undefined

Oooh I can`t wait to try this one!! Sounds awesome!

Lynne-tea

Awwwh jeez I wanted to try this one soo bad! I’ve been stalking it’s reviews for a while now. And now I want to try it even more. I will hold off until next next month as I am making a trip to a Davids Tea next week!.. (my wallet hates me I know it)

Azzrian

Puts hands over eyes – I did not see what Indigobloom said. :)

Indigobloom

Okay, so I’ll do a mass order for this one eventually as well! :)

Kittenna

So please count me in on your order – perhaps we could make a joint order? Is there a free shipping threshold? I’ll totally come down to TO for another tea shop adventure to pick it up :D

Indigobloom

Oooh I’m not sure!
I’ll investigate, after May 5!! :P

Thank you Bonnie for passing along this sample!

I brought 4 ounces of water to a boil and let it cool for a minute. Poured it over the teaspoon sample of dry leaf for three minutes, resulting in a pale yellow liquor. This has a slightly fuller body compared to GM’s coconut pouching offering. The coconut flavoring in The Spice and Tea Exchange is very similar to that of GM’s; it light and refreshing.

A resteep with slightly hotter water and an additional minute of brew time provided an equally enjoyable cup!

In the third steeping, the coconut taste is much less so, but there’s still plenty of oolong flavor to press forward for those who are looking to get the most bang for their buck.

This is definitely a contender as a cupboard staple, especially since it’s half the price!

I still need to go to their San Francisco store!

Will Work For Tea

I didn’t even think to look at their locations! Husband has a (business) trip planned for Berkeley in December & I want to go too, but that’s looking more and more like a pipe dream. Will keep that in mind just in case! :)

First, I am thankful to Indigobloom for sending some of this my way. I LOVE the subtle flavor of coconut in this tea. Sometimes coconut teas can make you feel like you just drank your suntan lotion by mistake but not this one. It is a perfect balance of oolong and coconut. I have been waiting for a chance to try this. To me, it is silky like a milk oolong with the added extra deliciousness of the tropics. I bet this would be good iced, but I doubt my sample will make it to warm weather. :) Thanks again Indigobloom!!!

Indigobloom

Yay! so glad you like it :)
I’m craving some now… mmm

Tea of the afternoon…..

This one came to me from Indigobloom. I have really been wanting to try this to see if another one of my favorites is close…..

Light green/yellow liquor, lovely coconut smell and taste. Very slightly buttery. Yum!

I am, of course, comparing to Golden Moon’s Coconut Pouchong. Honestly, though, I like them both. This one is a little more roasted tasting and maybe not quite as buttery. I really don’t see a need for both of them in my cupboard, but it is great to know that there is another source for really good Coconut Oolong/Pouchong out there, and it really just depends on where I am shopping at the time. I just know I am always in need of this kind of tea in my cupboard.

Thank you so much for the sample!

I’m so glad you enjoyed it!! I think between the two, I’d go for this one. The other has more of a vanilla hint to it, whereas this one is a tad more grassy somehow. Esp in later steepings

Oh, my. This tastes as good as it smells. And, it smells and tastes like coconut-oatmeal cookie heaven meets fresh green Oolong. My grandmother used to make awesome oatmeal cookies with a bunch of coconut, and that is seriously all I can think of while drinking this. I’m taken right back to her kitchen!

So, yeah. This is incredibly silky-smooth and creamy. There’s a delicious sweetness that tastes like toasted coconut, perfectly balanced with crisp, ever so slightly floral Oolong. Thanks for letting me steal a little, Indigobloom! A couple sips in I was already on their site investigating what it would take to get myself some of this.

Tina S.

You’re the third person I know to fall hard for this one!

Jessie

So good! Definitely a crowd-pleaser. I don’t know how anyone could resist it, really. It’s the equivalent of kittens and bunnies in my mug.

SimplyJenW

LOL! Kittens and bunnies in a mug…… ;)

Jessie

Haha! That’s right. :)

Indigobloom

kittens!! and bunnies… hehe. I’ll forever think of little bunnie ears when I have this tea :P

This is one of the samples that my sister gave me for Christmas.
Now, coconut is not my favorite flavor, not by a long shot, but in the name of tea, I will adventure on!
Hmm, this smells most certainly of coconut when I steep it, and provides to have a light and not unpleasant coconut flavor when brewed up.
Hmm. I will not be buying any more of this, but I’ve enjoyed what I did have, more than I expected to.
