Assam Gingia from The Tea Table

Assam Gingia

Black Tea by The Tea Table

A fine single-estate Assam at a good price. Smooth and malty with golden tips, this tea is a great base for making your own chai or other blends. If you’re looking for a nice Irish Breakfast tea, try this tea. Irish Breakfast is usually a blend of Assam teas, and this single estate Assam is priced about like a blend. 1 tsp. per cup steeped 3-5 min.

The reason I wanted to try this tea is that Mountain Malt is an Assam Gingia tea also. While this is is a very nice assam, it is not Mountain Malt. There is no comparison. This tea is malty and has a touch of bitterness and astringency. The chewy biscuity notes are not there. They do not even look the same. All that being said, still this is a nice assam.

The weather calls for strong teas this morning. This is a very good assam tea with the malty taste, no bitterness and light astringency. While this tea is from the same area as Mountain Malt, it is not in the same league. Its not even close. Sometimes you get what you pay for.

Not malty or sweet enough for my taste. I purchased a first flush single estate Assam from the Tea Table some years ago, and was haunted (and probably spoiled forever) by the robust, muscular sweetness of its cup. This is not that Assam. It is, however, delicious as a good everyday brew. If you want a tea to convert inveterate coffee drinkers, try their Tippy Golden Assam Mangalam instead.
