Maple Taffy

Black Tea by The Whistling Kettle

We were fascinated by the popular Canadian tradition of making Maple Taffys. Heated maple syrup is poured onto a layer of snow, which rapidly cools the syrup and thickens it. The result: a wonderful delicacy, which melts on your tongue! Of course, we have added real, dehydrated maple syrup and a hint of cinnamon to our creation. This sweet delicacy will also surely put you into the mood for a snowball fight thanks to the added white popcorn snowballs in this blend.

Ingredients: black tea, cinnamon pieces, dehydrated maple syrup, cinnamon rods, flavoring, popcorn, white cornflower blossoms.

For some reason I decided it’d be a good idea to buy 4 oz of this tea. The problem is that it has two very edible ingredients: popcorn and maple syrup bits that melt in your mouth. My boyfriend practically had to take the bag away while I’m eating the syrup bits like candy.

This tastes a lot more like a cinnamon kettle corn that it tastes like anything maple syrupy. Still tasty, but the cinnamon is just a bit too strong, and I could do without the popcorn. Next time I’ll try a cup without any popcorn and see.

Or I could add more maple syrup.

Drank this at The Whistling Kettle this afternoon with lunch and fell in love. I tried it without cream and sugar to start. But this tea was WAY better with a little cream and rock sugar. The maple and taffy flavors just popped with the additions. I walked out of there with 4oz. :)

This was also my tea of the evening to enjoy while watching the season finale of Downton Abbey. I won’t say more about the episode. But I will say I enjoyed sipping this through the first hour.

Enjoying this one again this morning as the wind whips around outside. Perfect way to warm up and kick off the rest of my day. A nice blend of maple and taffy that now makes me wish I’d made waffles or pancakes this morning!
