From Tillerman Tea

Taiwan Tan Kao Yan Cha
(Formosa Roasted Cliff Tea)

This tea, which is KC Chen’s charcoal roasted version of the Yan Cha, is a Sunset Magazine featured item. In addition to the characteristic “rocky” mineral taste of yan cha it shows a soft mouth feel with a hint of spice and a compelling aroma of bittersweet chocolate. High oxidized and high fired, this is a nice robust tea with a wonderful complex finish, a new treat for anyone who likes the unique taste of Yancha!

Literally translated as “cliff tea”, this yancha is produced by the Bihlu Tea Gardens in Taiwan from the same mountain top wild leaf as the “Formosa Wild Leaf White.”

[Formerly listed as an oolong, but as of 2011 categorized as a black tea]
