From Tisano

Tisano’s innovative patent pending process uses proprietary methods to select the delicate fibrous shell around the cacao bean, which carries many of the same antioxidant agents, and magnesium and potassium as well as a high dose of Vitamin D, which the cacao bean does not have.

Tisano’s single origin Cacao Tea is the first pure chocolate herbal infusion that is steeped in timeless tradition to provide the following health benefits*: • Boosts energy & stamina: Theobromine which is found in cocoa and chocolate provides a mild, long lasting boost with a mood improving effect to help you maintain energy, stamina, and vitality*. • Immune system support: Antioxidants are free radical scavengers that help defend healthy cells, protect the body and support overall wellness*. • Promotes a healthy heart: A daily dose of antioxidants has been shown to ward of free radicals that have been shown to contribute to various forms of cardiovascular disease*. • Antidepressant: Theobromine naturally raises serotonin levels and increases feelings of well-being*. • Fat and Calorie Free: A chocoholics dream come true, Tisano is a naturally fat and calorie free way to satisfy even the most intense chocolate craving*. “Chocolate is one of the most misunderstood superfoods. It is often considered to be an unhealthy indulgence, but in reality it provides many important health benefits,” said Patrick Pineda, President of Tisano. “And while drinking our new chocolate tea may taste guilty, it is quite the opposite. Not only is it rich in antioxidant and flavinoids, it also contains a rich and enticing flavor without the fat or calories.” Pineda first became intrigued with herbal chocolate tea through his work with his company, Eastbluff Trading Co, which provides high-quality organic Venezuelan cacao to the U.S. After experimenting and brewing the chocolate tea at home for friends and family, Pineda decided to trial the tea at Expo West to garner feedback from industry influencers and consumers alike. After receiving a tremendous response and winning Best in Show from VegNews Magazine, Pineda decided to officially launch Tisano Cacao Tea at the World Tea Expo. Tisano’s Organic Cacao Tea brand of pure chocolate tea is available at select locations in Southern California, Maryland, Colorado, Montana and online at Amazon.com. About Tisano™: Founded in 2010, Tisano is an exotic herbal tea company that is committed to providing high-quality cacao teas. Tisano is a family owned and operated business that is grounded on the three principles of tea: “qualitea” “sustainabilitea” and “integritea.” Tisano believes in giving back and goes beyond fair trade by sourcing directly from the farming communities that grow the finest organic cacao.

OMG you guys I’m so spoiled. So I put my Tea Sparrow subscription on hold, thinking I really need to just focus on drinking all the tea I currently own. Then, of course, February’s box included this Cacoa tea from Tisano that I’ve been dying to try ever since I first heard of it. So I was sadfacing on steepster and trying to remind myself that I have lots of yummy tea already, when yesterday I got a surprise Tea Sparrow box in my mailbox! With a hand-written note for Michael saying “I noticed that you paused this month, but I really like some of the teas and wanted you to try them. :)” LOL amazing!! So nice. Also, probably the last nudge I need to restart my subscriptions, so sound business sense too. ;)

Anyway, I tried the cacao tea first, and yep – yummy chocolate. :) It’s funny because the scent of the dried (and steeped) cacao husks is a bit off-putting – it’s chocolatey, but in the sense that it smells like straight cocoa powder, which is decidedly not delicious. But the tea itself is pretty great. It lacks the creaminess and body of hot chocolate, but it definately has a lovely cocoa flavour. I’ve seen people talk about adding these to other teas to boost the chocolateyness, which is definitely sounding like a good plan. Can’t wait to experiment more with these. :)

laoshan black from verdant + this = great hahaha

Fjellrev

That was so awesome of him to do that! And I agree about the aroma of the dry husks. Sometimes they rub me the wrong way and make me not want to have any.

Fjellrev

Good point from our Sil. I personally like to combine the husks with Assam, or any rich, full-bodies straight black.

This is one of those teas I’ve read great reviews on for ages. Then one day I just decided to order some anyway. It came just before Christmas and I’m having it now. The instructions say 1 tps to 8oz of water at 210F which I did. However, I notice that most other people here used a lot more tea for the 8 oz.

It definitely is hot chocolate like (without the milk and the sugar both of which I can’t have). I think this brew is a little thin so might try it with more tsps. next time like others have had. I also want to try this with some black teas I have. Is it worth it just ordering the one tea? I’d say so. This looks like a versatile tea to have on it’s own when I want a hot chocolate or to mix with other teas. I’ll enjoy trying out some different things with it.

These cacao husks do their job and taste pretty much the same as Herbal Infusion’s, although I swear HI’s was a little sweeter. Could be the source/batch, or even just a memory blitz. Somehow this time around I’m not caring for cacao husks on their very own. The liquor is a little too thick and sludgy on its own in comparison to other teas/tisanes. I’d rather mix it with a black tea to give this a little more depth.

i actually made just this on it’s own tonight… last cup of the evening. This one makes for a richer, more dark chocolate cup than the herbal infusions version which is a little lighter. Works for me though, since i want my cacao to be strong and delicious and i just can’t get behind herbal infusions anymore with all the trouble friends have had. so yay for a new source of cacao!

It’s a shame, I would really like to try their strawberry version. :(

Sil

tisano has a strawberry version too… if i remember correctly…and mint..

LiberTEAS

I don’t think that they have a strawberry version … at least not yet. I love Tisano. I am sad to hear of the different troubles people have had with Herbal Infusions. But there are so many great tea companies out there, I don’t see the need to support the ones that aren’t up to par.

I don’t see strawberry right now, but they do have vanilla. Yum. :D

LiberTEAS

I had some of the vanilla last night … it really is yum.

Tastes like hot chocolate…good creamy chocolate taste…I even steeped it a second time and it was milder, but not bad the second time around.

One of my favorite teas - This is not a creamy hot chocolate kind of tea – This is a wonderful company they make excellent drinks - This is a very strong taste of dark chocolate - I try my teas without anything so I can really taste the tea and this smells wonder – When you open up the can it is wonderful smelling - I love my hot water brewer because it makes your tea temp taste just right – I think if someone doesn’t brew this at right temp you may not like it - If you love chocolate then this a great tea for you -
