I’m guessing this one is charcoal roasted at a higher temperature. There is a lot of toasty notes that leaves me reminiscent of Houji-Cha. This may be partially because of my slightly higher than recommended brewing temperature; but is very enjoyable none-the-less.

Most of these tightly wound pellets are 40-60% larger than several of my most recent oolong tastings. This is very nice, because you still have plenty of unfurling action on your other infusions.

The overall cup is smooth, little astringency and gives you quite a rush of warm energy. It proves to be the perfect cup of choice for this early evening.

I will certainly be trying this one at multiple steepings, and am interested in finding if the sweeter notes emerge at a slightly lower water temperature.

Edit:

Ok, this go around I lowered the water temp by 10 degrees and found the sweeter and slightly milder side of this tea. You can still taste the toastiness, but now the cup evolves into a tad more complex.

This is a very pleasing Charcoal roasted tea, not overwhelmingly charcoal-ish, the charcoal seems to stand out mostly in the aftertaste. The sip has a warm, toasted note to it, which brings out the nutty undertones of the tea. The cup is both savory and sweet, with thirst-quenching fruit notes, a slight vegetative taste, and a light herbaceous tone that is very refreshing.

Very nice.

This is a nice charcoal oolong! It’s a sweeter oolong with a hefty charcoal-type flavor. There’s a great contrast between the two flavor differences.

Today’s first cup really grabbed me. I was initially confronted with a very clean flavor.I thought there must have been an error in packaging the samples in that there were none of the charcoal characteristics I have read about.Almost sweet,and green to be sure.And yet within a few sips I had changed my mind two or three times.Though I still detect green It is intermingled with a,not so much nutty,but barley note.theres an undercurrent of sweetness Second steeping I bumped time up thirty seconds and it sure brought the barley to the surface and diminished the green aspect.Still that hint of sweet,maybe more in the aroma than anything else.Very enjoyable,one I might drink regularly. Oh boy do I remember that song from High School! I had to judge members trying out for the a sqad that performed with the cheer leaders and every routine used the same song…Green Onions. Over and over and over. I can do the routine to this day and I’m 64!
