Nilgiri OP

Black Tea by Upton Tea Imports

An excellent tea for those who like a milder Nilgiri. Best without milk, unless the steeping time is extended to 5 minutes or longer. The cup is smooth and rounded with a clean finish. Also makes great iced tea.

I am breaking out of my usual black tea variety. I think this is my first straight up Nilgiri. While it is not as honeyed or cocoa-noted as what I normally drink, this really is a good tea. It is nearly a perfect balance between the tea I usually drink and coffee. No real bitterness or astringency, just good, basic black tea. This one also comes in at a bargain. It is $5.20 for 200 grams or about 75 cents an ounce.

This is a really tasty black tea that has a fresh, light taste. Brewed well, it made for a great daily drinker that literally gets gulped down.

OP (Orange Pekoe) teas are pretty much the most basic form of black tea. It is pretty much a medium grade of tea, making it affordable. Upton is charging only $5.20 for 200 grams for this tea. A good deal on a tea that makes a fantastic breakfast tea. There is nothing remarkable about this, but at the same time it manages to satisfy in a way that some better teas cannot. There is some special about “normal” teas like this that we find particularly satisfying.

We drank it plain, without milk or sugar and found it very refreshing. Drinking a pot of this was a great way to start the day.

For an inexpensive, everyday tea with a very fresh taste, this one is recommended.

This is one solid tea. It’s hard to describe what it is but what it isn’t is: smokey, harsh, needing sugar or milk, or weak. Just straight, this tea has a good “black tea” flavor and is easy on the tongue.

Tasty black with some fruitiness – this has been my go to tea when I’m drinking black lately. Great value. Large leaves unfurl when steeped. A little earthy but very balanced and smooth and I have yet to oversteep it – not a ton of tannins here. Sometimes its nice with a touch of sugar.
