From Upton Tea Imports

China Green. Legend has it that this tea was created by the famous Buddhist monk, Da Fang, during the Song Dynasty. The tea has a very rich flavor, with notes of chestnuts and a vegetal sweetness. Slightly reminiscent of a Lung-Jing, but with a more pronounced character.

I got this sample from Upton Tea Imports a while back and was curious to try it. I’ve had Mandala Tea’s version but that’s about it for me and this leaf.

The other taster here was not too fond of it, but I rather liked it. It’s a mild green tea similar in appearance and flavor to a dragonwell. I’m definitely getting the light chestnut flavor here and it’s sweet and mild, with vegetal flavors similar to corn. Very gentle character which is great for the first afternoon cuppa.

I’d like to try this side by side with Mandala’s version but overall it was very enjoyable to me.

Smells promising in the bag and on steeping, like good green tea (vegetal, woody,) yet I’m also getting a scent that reminds me of vanilla cake for some reason. Taste is pretty good, a little mild, no bitterness. Vegetal, with a faint note in the background that kind of reminds me of cinnamon. This is organic, which is always a plus. With the price, which is more reasonable than some similar teas I have tried, plus the easy drinking experience, this would be a decent daily drinker. (current upton # for this is ZG46)

Completely unremarkable green tea. Slightly woody on first steep, exhausted after the second.
