This selection, popularly known as “Sun Moon Lake Tea” or “Ruby Tea”, is manufactured by hand in very limited quantities. The leaves are fully oxidized, and have a large, attractive appearance. The liquor is very smooth and without a trace of bitterness. The flavor is both refined and complex, with notes of mint, cinnamon and malt sugar.

Tea and Card travelling teabox

I wanted to revisit this one as i had it way back when i was first really trying to figure out what i liked and what i didn’t. Dropping the rating on this a few points because after trying so many varieties of black teas in the past year (or two) this one lacks the bolder flavour that i like. This is nice, it’s got a little astringency to it that i don’t mind and overall it’s not a bad cup, i’ve just had better than i love more :)

This one has beautiful long slender leaves that tangle together and produce a coppery broth with fragrance notes of mint and a light spice. It has a strong tea taste with some tannins but no bitterness. Overall, it is one my favorites of the blacks I’ve tried.

Foremost this is a very smooth black tea. There is no acidity or bitterness and only this lovely bright black tea flavor. That sounds very generic I know, but I really can’t think of any adjectives that I usually use for tea. No fruit or spices that I notice. The mouth feel is similar to a mild less smoky Keemun or a less complex and fruit forward Golden Monkey. The leaves are quite large and twisted and expand to a deep chestnut on brewing. I admire the quality of this tea, and I will definitely drink up my sample, I’m just not tempted to buy it. I get a hint of apple skin and dried fruit in the aroma of the leaves. A very mild and nice afternoon or morning cup.

Cool looking leaves – very long. This is pretty good. I followed package directions, though, and this length of steep is giving it a dryness that I don’t care for a whole lot (at least I’m guessing that is what is making it dry). I don’t notice any other notes than tea flavor tea. :) I have enough left in the sample to try again though!
