Can you believe that the last time I had this tea was over a year ago? I realized that the sample tin of this, buried in the bottom of my tea drawer, was still pretty full of tea. And it’s a green tea, so it’s no doubt aging. Yes, I have a tea sample problem. Nevertheless when I opened the tin the aroma was just as pungent as the day I got it, it seems. It smells like cookies and cinnamon and almonds, but never as much like almonds as I would hope. This is one of those almond teas that reminds me of snickerdoodles, which as it happens are not almond cookies.

I have to say, I am impressed going back to this tea after all this time. It is sweet and cookie-ish, a little bit of cinnamon but not overwhelming at all, with a hint of nutty almond. When I look for almond in the tea I want marzipan-y almond, which is difficult to find, but if I divorce that expectation from this tea, then I enjoy it a lot. It really is a snickerdoodle with green tea, to me. Possibly due to age, the green tea in this is not really as vegetal as it once was, which honestly is kind of a good thing. I would love to see a blend like this using a really nutty green tea base to start with, like the base of Empire Tea Services Earl Green. It was good to revisit this one because I might reach for it more often now!

This sounds amazing! Have you tired Joy’s Teaspoon Almond Cookie?

Dinosara

I have, a long time ago. I found it closer to apple pie than an almond cookie! I can’t really get behind the apple-based almond teas because they just taste like apple to me. I’m really picky about my almond teas, too… I never understand why cinnamon and such is necessary, but it’s very common.

Ooh, just had some snickerdoodles for the first time in years this week-this tea sounds good.

The aroma of the brewed tea is very pleasant… it smells a bit like warm almond cookies!

This is a sweet, tasty green tea. The green tea tastes fresh – not grassy, but there is a delicate vegetative note to it. The almond and cinnamon flavors are balanced well with the green tea taste. Very smooth and delicious. The cinnamon flavor is sweet (not spicy) and the almond flavor gives this a nutty flavor that is somewhat toasty.

YUM YUM YUM!

That sounds really good!

It’s even better with the second infusion! With the second infusion, the flavor becomes richer and creamier. Yummy!

Lovely sweet almond scent upon opening the packet! Yum! You can taste both the almonds and the green tea base in this one, but I don’t find any cinnamon- that’s fine by me though! I’m having this one plain, no added sweetener, and it’s really tasty. Light, bright, and with a sweet aftertaste. My only complaint is the amount of ‘crumbs’ left after I take my tea ball out- there’s a fair amount in there. I’ll finish this one quickly though, so it shouldn’t be a huge problem.

I’ve been wanting to taste this one, every since I received my Upton samples. The smell in the package was amazing (love almond/cinnamon).

The green tea in this blend tastes very nice. Not overly aggressive, a bit grassy…pleasant. The flavorings are light, not in your face, but there. I think I would like them to be more present, since the aroma of the dry leaves were so nice (but the taste left me wanting). Next time I’m going to try 2 minute steeping time, to maybe tone down the green tea, to give the flavorings a chance. Overall this is promising.

A pretty blend—flat green tea leaves, large slivered almond pieces, cinnamon bark, tiny ivory flowers—which smells like almond cookies! A delicious nutty blend with a bit of spice at the end. 2nd infusion develops a surprising creaminess. A lovely cup!

I’ll have to try this one next time I order form Upton’s. It sounds exquisite.

Brewed this for 3 minutes with 180°F water and then put in the refrigerator to chill, since I drink most of my teas chilled.

I always want to love nutty flavored teas, but usually I just don’t. I love eating nuts, but for some reason it doesn’t translate into tea for me. That said, I was pleasantly surprised by this tea. It is very enjoyable. It tastes like baked almond cookies and the aroma is delicious. The green tea, cinnamon, and almond (think Jordan Almonds) flavors combine to make something that is sweet, baked like a cookie, and not over the top almond. I still don’t know that this is something that I could or would want to drink regularly. There is something that keeps me from gulping it and I know I’ll hit my limit before my thermos is finished. Funny that I could eat almonds all day long, but can’t drink more than a cup of almond tea at a sitting.

There is a slight offness to the aftertaste, but otherwise it’s sweet almond and cinnamon.

Dinosara sent me a generous sample of this tea (and several others… can you say TEA KARMA?). It smelled like a delicious sweet almond cookie when I opened the bag. Brewed, it had a mild spiced nutty flavor, slight velvet texture, and a sweet tobacco note that strongly reminds me of flavored cigars. Very interesting! Thanks Dinosara! :D

This is comfort tea at its best. Like sitting down to a warm bowl of rice pudding. I love this stuff.

From Tamarindel a LONG time ago. THANK YOU.  It was so delicious yesterday that I looked to see if I had written a tasting note and nope, I did not.  Of course.  Though green and flavored, it’s still fantastic, more than I remembered from past steeps.  The almond is spot on.  Toasty yet sweet and buttery – an amazing pairing with this green tea and hint of cinnamon.  Two excellent steeps. It is tough for me to focus on reading normally and this virus is not helping with that at ALL.  Doubly not helpful and I’m really missing my mindscape books.
Even if the virus might be slowing, people have to realize it is because most people have only been doing the essential things for an entire month around where I live anyway. So it took a MONTH for things to slightly slow down and I really hope people don’t run out partying just because things are slowly slowing.  Isolated parties, sure.  Have at em.
