From Verdant Tea

When our Jingshan green came in and it brewed up so light and sparkly with all kinds of natural hints of citrus, we knew that we wanted to try infusing it with Bergamot. The results are excellent. With the addition of lavender and lemongrass, this is a perfectly clean and refreshing tea to sere hot or iced.

Sipdown shared with my mom’s church friends. I was invited to come brew for a meeting at my mom’s house, part of a search for a new minister. I came armed with over a dozen loose leaf teas. Everyone was impressed with the selection, my mom had no idea how much I had at home until I showed her a picture of my stash “You probably have over a hundred! Well I guess that’s good in this weather” What does the weather have to do with it?

Anywho this proved to be the most popular and got reinfused several times. Butiki’s Cantaloupe & Cream was also enjoyed along with Verdant’s Dragonwell Style Laoshan Green and Mountain Tea’s Heritage Honey Oolong for two purists :)

I’m a bit sensitive to floral tea but this is definitely my favorite lavender tea, very light, bright and refreshing. And I would love to see it’s return in the spring. I was saving it to share and share I did! See previous note. Now I need to go brew some tea.

Ha! I has a similar comment recently from someone.
She said “Oh, you drink tea? well, thats a nice thing to be interested in at this time” and I was thinking “at this time?” what? This time of year? This time in my life?
People are funny.
This Tea sounds tasty, I have only ever had one Lavender Earl Grey.
But, I liked it:)

Hee hee! One fellow sounded completely bewildered when he asked me why I had so much tea. People who sit down and have a few cups with me now and then figure it out best! :) That was nice of you to do that for your mom and her friends.

Just did a cold brew of this. My first…one. The Bergamot comes out more with the cold brew, I enjoyed it :)

Ooh, interesting! What is your cold brew method? It’s not quite consistently warm enough here that I want cold tea much, bit it’s getting close and I’d like to start experimenting more!

I’ve read a few different methods for making an ideal cold brew, and the more I hear, the more I can figure out what I’d like to do!

Filtered water in a mason jar. I did not measure out the tea, I just eye balled it. Left it over night and did not drink it till 8pm the next day. It was a little bitter, but I still liked it. I have been using mason jars a lot lately with chia seed pudding. I thought why not this to.
While I think it is a great way to drink tea, I still prefer it hot.:)

Do you leave it out on the counter, or in the fridge? Sounds like on the counter. I’ve actually heard both.

And I, too, prefer my tea hot in general. But when the summer rolls around, this is going to be nice. :)

The Jingshan is soft and crisp, tasting of asparagus and corn with a natural sweetness to it. The lavender is wonderfully floral and earthy adding extra weight to the tea, in a good way. The bergamot and lemongrass are light and I smell them more than I can taste them adding more of a crisp feeling, playing opposite of the lavender.

If you are not a fan of lavender or florals I wouldn’t recommend this one. Lavender is a strong one and easily overpowers what it is paired with. Even though there isn’t much lavender in this blend and doesn’t overpower the tea, it is impossible to ignore.

I love me some Earl Green teas and this one doesn’t fail me.

I’ve had Lavender Earl Greys and I’ve had Green Earl Greys, but I’ve never had a Green Lavender Earl Grey. Given my good experiences with Verdant’s Alchemy line so far, and my interest in various Earl Greys including those of the lavender persuasion, I had to ask for a sample of this one with my latest order. Thanks, David, I’m excited to try it!

The dry leaf smells pretty lavendery with some greenish teaish scents and is that some bergamot? The bergamot isn’t really the main player in the aroma of the dry leaf. I steeped this according to the directions for the base tea (Jingshan green) and the resulting cup smells very intriguing. Lavender, yes, but with a warm, almost cookie-ish aroma. Well that was a surprise. Again, I can’t really pick out the bergamot in the scent. The flavor is intriguing and unexpected. Lavender is the most forward flavor in this tea, but overall it is very light and delicate with a faint sweetness. It is somewhat bright, but more “crisp” than anything else. I’m afraid I don’t actually taste the bergamot nor the lemongrass. I am very much enjoying this cup of tea, but what it’s really making me want is a cup of this tea unflavored, and perhaps to see it in a straight Green Earl Grey blend sans lavender. From reading tasting notes of the base tea, I feel like the lavender, light as it is in this blend (seriously the least obtrusive I’ve ever had in a tea), is steamrolling over the other flavors a bit.

Thanks- I am such a sucker for lavender that I have to check myself sometimes. I will blend up the next batch with your note in mind and see if I can’t get it a little more balanced- honestly, when I tried this batch after blending, I was super excited and just loved it. However, I am noticing that the bergamot profile changes a lot as it dries out and sits with the tea. It was an even match for the lavender to start out. I will blend up more this week to different parameters and set it aside to taste in a few days. Hopefully I will get this one down to a science soon.

That’s interesting about the bergamot, but I guess that’s why bergamot level is tricky to get right in an Earl Grey. And my flavor identification might be more difficult because this base tea is completely outside of my experience… and totally awesome from what I can tell, BTW!

I seriously don’t know what I’m going to do without this tea in my life. I just got a 2oz bag in the mail after learning that this tea will be discontinued. I’m trying so hard not to buy every pound that is left of this tea. It should be stated that this is quite strong in the lavender and bergamot department, but it is blended so well with the lovely jingshan green. And it’s good for at least 3 western steeps.
