THE INSPIRATION
Have you ever been kissed by the bliss of the morning sun? Have you stood with the Crystal River where the salmon run? How about the oak groves where the ferns grow and the chickadees sing from every tree in the spring? Do you remember how it plays your heart strings? Because when I walk outside and the sun glints off my left eye I can not deny that everything about life is just fine. It’s true that when I grab fresh cherries from the roadside stands in Michigan, my heart begins to sing again, and I can’t help but listen and wish that every person could feel it too, like you. And the wildflowers wash my worries away, so I stand there and say, “This is how life should be every day.” This I why I blend. I blend to take the memories that have inspired me to be everything I could possibly wish to be and share them with you. And sometimes, I return home, and everything I’ve ever known returns to me, and in a flood of inspiration I dig deep inside my mind to find a way to cup these times. But what if we could cup the sunshine? What if there was a sip that was so fine that it recalled your favorite things from spring time? What if a wisp of this and a dash of that came from the mind of a teasmith so mad that he decided he couldn’t hold back and threw everything he had into a small bag? I was tired of what-if’s…sick of could-be-betters…hungry for decadence and recollection of the most mind-blowing and inspiring things that have ever touched my soul. So I crafted Ambrosia.

A blend of Imperial North Winds and tahitian vanilla, Ambrosia opens with powerful cocoa, malt, and maplewood. The body is silky smooth and creamy, carrying on to a lasting finish. Each sip of this beautiful tea builds, with cherry and maplewood dancing through mid-sip and apricot and wildflowers wisping through the finish. Vanilla notes linger with a powdery mouthfeel that in the beginning hints at cocoa powder, but later on translates to bee pollen and dandelion leaves. There is a thick sweetness comparable to orange blossom honey throughout. Ambrosia is vibrant and awakening, reminding me of the way the fresh Michigan spring breeze whispers through the pines over trilliums and new growth. Enjoy this perfectly balanced brew anytime of the year!

Warm and bready and vanilla sweet, but not super strong. Vanilla is definitely more of an undertone, but it is still there. I enjoy this a lot, but I probably won’t reach for it over other offerings from this company, or other vanilla teas I have supercharged by adding lots of extra vanilla. I like my vanilla to be more in your face.

I didn’t have much luck with this one yesterday – just didn’t do anything for me but i’m not sure if that was just my mood and the kinda of day i was having or what. Tasty, but not as incredible as that first time i had it.

Wow, this tea! It is a very comforting cuppa. The vanilla is very smooth and pure. I get a sweetness that lingers, which is a likeness toward the cherry notes. The cocoa notes develop slowly and almost “roll” onto my tongue.
I feel like this tea has a lot of layers.

Resteeped for 5 and 8 minutes per the website recommendations. The third steep was starting to lose that wonderful vanilla, but it was still delicious

I was surprised by how many “Ambrosias” there were when I searched this name. I thought this to be a very original name. Anyways, onward to the review. This is my first western session in what seems like a long time, so it was a little awkward at first. I had told myself when this tea was released that I would hold off for some time on buying it. However, the tantalizing fascination for a liquor fit for Greek gods took a hold of me. I opened the package and took a peak inside. I was taking in an ocean of minuscule delicate gold strands and thin black wires. These soft velvety strands carried such an enticing scent! I was blown away by the pure aroma of marshmallow, malt, and the slightest fruit tone. I placed a good sized scoop in my glassware and rushed to the bubbling kettle. The moment my scorching spring water touched the leaves a delectable scent exploded from my tea-ware and filled my tea room. I was catching notes of sugarcane, vanilla, malt, baked bread, and some dark fruit. The taste is more than perfect. The brew fully encompasses the mouth and leaves the tongue feeling soft and lubricated. The flavor begins as a sweet melted marshmallow and then moves to a sweet yet dry vanilla. This is a more pure vanilla. This taste isn’t overly sweet or the kind that makes your stomach turn after drinking too much. This is a burly natural vanilla that is well balanced with both the sugared sweet tones and the dry wood tones. Then, the brew moves in with some uplifting dark berry, such as black cherries or over ripe raspberries. Lastly, the drink finishes with a smooth and soft malt the helps the mouth ease out of the velvety sweetness. The brew keeps this consistently throughout multiple steeping. The vanilla tone fades slightly, but is still prescient with each steep. This tea is perfection in a cup. I absolutely love how the flavors work and how well balanced this is. If you loved Golden Orchid, then this is the more intense and luscious version and you must try it.

So, my goal is to review more of the teas I have, starting with my newest obsession, Ambrosia. I really like this and have been pushing it onto everyone in the vicinity. This really swings towards a vanilla marshmallow for me. I have been playing around with it and find that I like to use quite a bit of tea for each serving. Less is not balanced enough between the syrupy vanilla and the tea. More than 3-4 steeps, depending on how much attention I am paying to it while brewing, and I find that it fades considerably. The taste goes away, some of the vanilla scent lingers though. I let the steep I am currently drinking sit for a bit too long, so it is very brisk but not unpleasant. I do find a bit of an almost woody taste behind the vanilla. This tea really lives in the vanilla though, by itself the black tea would be pleasant but not as well rounded.

In summary, sugar and vanilla on top of a nice round woody black tea.

This tea is truly magical! Extremely well blended! I actually had to check back at the ingredients since I was no longer sure that it was vegan, but of course it was. I saw something on Steepster a while ago written by a representative of a tea company about how blending tea was not some magical art. I strongly disagree with that statement. Very good blends, like this tea are art. I believe it is very easy to tell when love, creativity, and time have been committed to the creation of a tea. I know that is how I used to blend teas and still do for myself and I can tell the same type of care from some other tea companies.

Plunkybug

I agree, it is an art. If it is to be a great tea. I mean, if some blender wants to throw a bunch of stuff together without much care, then sure, in that case, it’s not an art. But truly good tea, no…truly fantastic tea, is blended with care, and is sincerely an art.

Butiki Teas

Plunkybug-I agree! :)

There are companies that have wonderful tea but they just don’t really blend well. It’s a different talent.

Kassi

That is the first thing that came to mind when i had it. What an amazing blend. This is a first for me to hear that mixing was a taboo. well i will surely continue steeping the mixed flavors . Cheers !

So my lastest order which included this tea took 18 days to get to me from order to arrival on my doorstep (and shipping was only 5 days of this timeframe!) which seems like a VERY LONG time, I mean, a box from Taiwan which was ordered on the same day as this arrived a week ago and it had a much longer journey to make!! I understand this tea is hand blended in small batches but I’m seriously impatient for tasty tea.

Unsurprisingly the wait was worth it! In the bag, this tea smells and looks like many of the other WP blends and it’s not until you take your first sips that you realize the difference… This has some powerful maple notes! The maltiness is very present as is a touch of cocoa and vanilla and it almost reminds me of Golden Orchid except for that intense woody maple flavor that really hits me front and center. It won’t replace Golden Orchid or Cocoa Amore in my cupboard (two of my favorite teas ever) but it has a welcome place as something I can grab when I feel something comforting but a little different.

Whispering Pines Tea Company

So glad you enjoyed this! :-)

Luckily, I’m revamping my entire order filling process, which will eventually cut the turnaround time from 7+ days down to same-day shipping :-) I’ll get there soon! :D

I adore this tea. I was gonna write something poetic and gorgeous, but if you take everything that TheTeaFairy said and add everything that MzPriss said, and then multiplied it times Pi, because it’s Pi Day, then you would have my feelings on this tea.

Oh, and it’s fruity. Like very juicy fruits. I super dig it!

Love mob, coming through! <3

Ambitious?

A little pretentious?

Sure…you don’t name something Ambrosia if you’re lacking confidence. And this tea is everything…and then some.

The look, the color, the smell, the taste, it’s all heaven. Angels signing in my cup. Mozart’s requiem. Powerful stuff.

The brew is a crimson liquid gold…Oh Dian Hong, how I love you.

The addition of handcut vanilla (side bar: did I write “handcut”? Yes I sure did! This is no vanilla flavor, it’s vanilla. Period. No extract, no essence. Vanilla. Pure. In its original form, just like in all the WP blends. This fact needs to be mentioned and appreciated. End of side bar)

So yeah, as I was saying, the addition of vanilla brings undeniable distinction and sophistication.

The first sip and I’m like “hello, maple syrup”! If like me you’ve added a tad of maple to your black tea from time to time, you’ll get what I’m saying.

It’s sweet and malty. A maltiness that makes me so happy.

It’s a bit woody, and fruity…I get some cherry notes, but it’s very subtle.

If you wonder how it compares to the other Vanilla Dream black tea blends, this is what I have to say in a nutshell:

Golden Orchid is gooey fudge, Cocoa Amore is chocolate covered cherries, Elderwood is floral vanilla and Ambrosia is maple malt. There.

B-Boy, you couldn’t have chosen a better name for it…this is tea for the Gods, it’s blended to purrrfection.

Now I need to hit the “shitload” order button again….sigh.
