This is sort of a dud, I expected something different – more rose, more flavoured. As it is, it smells very nice, though not rose, a lychee like smell instead, not at all english! Pretty dried rose petals scattered round. It has some flavour, but it is a bit meh as a tea.

THEME TEA DAY!!

Today is VE day, and it’s a big one this year – the 75th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe. My neighbours have organised a street party to celebrate, only now because of the Coronavirus we’re all going to have to stay in our own gardens. But, there’ll be music, food and drink, homemade bunting, it’s a beautiful sunny day and we’re all getting dressed up in 1940s dress or in red, white and blue. I’m drinking teas which I can tenuously link to peace or patriotism and the like, and there’s a minute’s silence at 11am to honour everyone who lost their lives.

I picked this tea to start my morning because it was the first one I thought of when I decided to drink themed teas today. What’s more English than an English rose? As a happy coincidence it’s also the last of my first tin of this tea, which means I’m half way done with it! I love a simple rose tea, and while this does the job it’s a bit light on the rose for my liking. I prefer Adagio’s Summer Rose, which has a much more prominent rose note and a harsher base than this tea, but I prefer to drink my rose teas with a splash of milk in the morning, and this tea is too thin to hold up to the milk. I’ll happily go through my other tin of this, but while a basic black rose tea is a staple in my cupboard, when it comes time to buy more it won’t be this one. Today, though, it sets the mood nicely.

ETA: This is a nice tea for when I’m making a pot for an afternoon tea, because the base doesn’t get too astringent even if you leave the leaves in the pot for an hour or two.

I love the 40’s neighborhood celebration! I’ll be there in …

It was so much fun! Even with everybody keeping their distance the community spirit was brilliant (:

ashmanra

That sounds awesome! I love it!

As for the tea – I like this one! I also like Harney’s Rose Scented Black. I think it is a tad smoother than this one, each having their own strengths.

Nattie

I don’t think I’ve tried the Harney’s tea, I’ll look into it! This one is nice enough, but the rose isn’t strong enough for my liking.

Second day of the Whittard tea advent. I’m hoping to catch up today, since I’m working from home. I feel like I’ve tried this one before, but there’s no record of it on here. Either I’m confused (likely) or it’s been eaten (entirely possible).

Either way, it leaves me with good tea. Because it is. I’m not usually a fan of floral blends, and the rose in this is pretty strong. What sells it to me is how candy-like it is. Sweet. Sugary. All the things I want at the moment. It also holds up to milk really well, so bonus!

I’d probably not always want this one around, but it’s a nice novelty.

This was a tea from my visit in store earlier, I got 125g caddy of English Rose for £4 as it expires in just over a month. The date is fine with me as I can make iced tea and such for a few weeks with it, plus after that I am left with a caddy (which they sold for £3 alone anyway).

It smells rather soft, that is to say it’s not strongly rose though it is noticeably rose. If you can understand that babbling. In flavour it was very mild, there was a touch of rose in the after taste but on the whole the black tea is malty, smoky and a little astringent. I have not added milk as I usually don’t but this blend recommends not having it anyway, that that sharpness is a little disappointing. To save my large cup of tea I added quite a mountain of sweetener, it seems to have brought out the sweetness of the rose and toned down the black base but it is still sour.

It’s not a bad rose tea but it’s also not the best. For the price I can’t complain though if I paid the full £8 for it I would have been a little gutted. Still I can make use of this within the next month. :)

Glad someone before me already came right out to say this is a dud. I tried it in tea-bag & loose form. Both were extremely vile & pukey. There’s NO ROSE to me. Even as a fruit tea, it doesn’t q work. Would give this minus ratings if I could.

The smell reminds me of summer. I do like also the taste, it’s not too flavoured black tea.

The best English Rose teas I’ve had so far haven’t actually been English, and this one continues the trend. Even though it says “a hint of tropical fruit” has been added, there’s a hint of fruit, but there’s also just a hint of rose. Neither flavour is particularly bold or characteristic (if anything, the fruit might come out just a little more) as I’d usually expect from a rose tea. Brewing longer doesn’t make a difference either.

Well, it’s so-so, but it’s nothing interesting.

Emm..Actually I have this tea on my shelf over 3 years long and just forgot to drink it until last Sunday when I cleaned my stuff on it. Although it has been over the fresh time to drink it, it still has a fruity fragrance when I open the package. I used two-cup teapot to steep it with the boiling water. It has a milky sweet of the taste but the tea taste itself is not obvious any more.
