The Zawadi Gift

Zawadi, meaning “gift” in Swahili, is the name we have given our delicious tea.

We chose this name because a portion of the profits we receive from Zawadi African Tea is donated to help the over one million children in Kenya who have been made orphans by the AIDS virus.

Donations reach Kenyan children through a non-profit organization called the Kenya Intervention/Prevention Project Group, International (www.kaippg.org).

It also represents a gift of economic independence to Kenyan tea farmers who for many years have barely earned enough to survive.

Zawadi African Tea is chemically free grown and harvested by Kenyan family farmers, made from the best part of the Kenyan tea plant—the buds or tippy—making it Grade #1 tea.

Full of antioxidants that may help prevent cancer, heart disease and stroke, help people lose weight, as well as other health benefits.

1 Tasting Note

The second of the Zawadi chai teas, as strong as the first with a more pronounced clove note here, though cloves are not listed in the ingredients so it must be the allspice. It’s a little disappointing that the description on the box is exactly the same, but this doesn’t change the power and taste of the brew. So far Zawadi is 2 for 2, in my estimation. I gave this one a slightly higher rating for its allspicyness.
