1135 Tasting Notes
I received this tea in January, but just cracking into it now. I opened the bag and it smelled very strongly of alcohol. I brewed it up, hoping the alcohol smell would go away, or the tea at least wouldn’t smell like alcohol, but now it’s all I can smell/taste.
Has anyone else had this problem?
I read somewhere (I don’t remember where) that some teas are flavoured with alcohol, and if “aired out” for awhile, it will evaporate or something like that. Does anyone know?
UPDATE: I left this open overnight and it no longer smells like alcohol. I brewed it up and it was delicious, but I did not have the time to actually pay attention enough to write a tasting note. More to come later….
I tried to purchase this last spring, but it seemed to be sold out every time I was at my David’s. But, I don’t get it because this doesn’t taste THAT great to me. It’s not like it is Pumpkin Chai or something delicious, but each to their own I guess.
To me, this tastes pretty artificial, and there isn’t much black tea in there. Which I guess is ok if I wanted a lower caffeine black.
Iced, it is marginally better.
I don’t know, maybe I am just falling out of love with DAVIDsTEA a little bit. The artificial flavours are sometimes a little too fake. Or maybe I just love mango too much and I was expecting so much more.
I am with a few other people on here who say that the base is a little too strong in this one. I found it a little bitter, but that might have been a brewing error. I will have to try it at 2 minutes to see if this is the case or not. I guess I should also try this iced, since it is a spring tea.
In other words, I am not that big of a fan.
I braved my grumpy baby today because I needed to get out of the house, I was going crazy. It is finally warming up here in Saskatchewan, so I am stir crazy to finally get out and about!
Anyway….this tea…..I thought it was delicious, I didn’t taste any alcohol like others have mentioned. The creamy vanilla was the most prominent note for sure. The peach doesn’t taste quite as natural as I would like, but it is decent.
I put some of this in the fridge to chill for tomorrow, so I will update tomorrow.
I agree with Kittenna that it’s great to have a herbal offering that isn’t mint, chamomile, hibiscus, or licorice!
UPDATE: I don’t like this iced. I think it tastes super articial this way.
Flavors: Cream, Peach
Shared a pot of this with the in laws this morning before brunch and it was a lovely tropical cuppa. I mostly got passion fruit today. The flavour really depends on the chunks of fruit in the spoonful, because the chunks are fairly large. I still really enjoy this one, even though it is finicky. I got it right today though!
I compared this tea yesterday to the grade 1 version of Keemun.
I find this tea to be maltier (if that’s even a word) and smoother than the grade 1 version. I think it is a little bit less sweet. I do get more notes of the peppercorn.
Hmmm, I am not sure which one I like better because I like each one for a little different reasons.
