drank Le Earl Grey by Fauchon
150 tasting notes

I’ve been in a French tea frenzy (for some reason I feel the French know what they’re doing when it comes to tea and it doesn’t help that most of my loose leaf tea experience comes from high-end French brands, so I couldn’t resist.) I have been to 3 Winners locations and 3 Homesense and have only had a hit at one of them and this was one of them ones that was left. I always like a good Earl Grey so I bought it. And all in all it’s a steal for 100g and a very cute tin.

At first sniff: I smell the Bergamont very strongly, but then more complex notes come through. Almost oak smelling or woody. I notice the leaves almost have some white tea in it, or at least that’s what it looks like to me. It’s not the strongest Earl Grey I’ve smelled, but not the weakest.

At first steep: Again, the Bergamont comes through. I added cream and a little stevia and it was a very very nice cup of Earl Grey. You can taste the quality of the tea (or at least I think I can) as it definitely has a more unique taste to it. I really like this tea, it would be a good breakfast contender for those days when you want to curl up with a familiar old friend.

On a side note: Anyone in the lower mainland Vancouver near a Homesense or Winners and knows they have some selection. I’ve only been able to find 3 that are of interest to me, but would like to taste or at least see more. I’ve been the locations east of the Port Mann and haven’t stopped by the North shore yet.

There were a few left at Winners still in Metrotown last time I was there. An Anniversaire was hiding with the food products, otherwise it was just one Naissance, L’Abricot, Mango and perhaps some Peche et Thyme. About 10 or so left, as of last week.

Tuscanteal

Hmmmm, might be worth a trip there and then swing by the one on Marine Dr after that. There is a couple I am interested in. If they weren’t so dark expensive on Amazon, I would just relax and order them on there, but at double the price, I think I’ll see what I can scoop up. I really like their little cute tins. I tried ordering them on the Fauchon website and the site might as well have laughed at me saying, ya right we aren’t shipping to Canada. le sigh

My passion for tea started at a very young age, thanks to my grandmothers beautiful china tea cup collection. I use to brew Tetley’s or whatever version of Orange Pekoe she had in the cupboard and pick out my favourite tea cup to use. It wasn’t until I was in my late teens that I really started to develop a passion for it. My town had the Urban Tea Merchant and it was there I was exposed to high tea and the very fancy Mariage Freres brand. When they switched over to The O Dor, my girlfriend and I found salvation in going for a lovely cup of tea and decompress with some tea scones.

It has since become an obsession. I have a tea cupboard, filled with a very large variety of teas. I also use the Breville Tea Maker to make my tea. I favour black teas, with a close second being North African Mint Green Tea. Because I have the luxury of working from home, I get to enjoy a wonderful cup of tea every morning, and the journey resets daily.
