Braved the snow drifts to get to the mailbox and my efforts were rewarded with samples from Chi of Tea!
While this is only my second Pu-erh ever, there are many differences in this and the bagged I tried yesterday. I have so much to learn!
The characteristic earthy feel is there, but pretty subtle. The orange is on top, with the Chrysanthemum close behind.
The orange channels blossom rather than zest, a less mature presence than ripened peel. Brewed, it is a dark, coffee-brown color.
After the sip, the orange lingers and draws me back for more. I really like it and am a little surprised, it is much lighter than the other
Pu-erh I have tried.
120 Tasting Notes
My other special purchase at the Asian market…the simple joys of trying something new and imported.
I won’t attempt to out verbalize other tasting notes on this tea, I just want to say that for me, a converted coffee drinker, it is joyous.
I actually drank it most of the afternoon, had multiple steeps (can’t do that with bags) and even iced with my evening meal of chicken parmigiana.
The more I sip, the more I want, the more I want, the more I sip…repeat. I am going to read up on Jasmine Green, I want to know more about it’s origins
and history. One thing is for sure, I can understand why it is so popular. Taking in a sip, iced or hot brings in a pre-taste aroma that is so refreshing.
The green tea is crisp, snappy, but the Jasmine provides a delicacy that restores balance. If I had this much fun with a so called average Jasmine, oh boy,
bring on the quality. However, for the price, I am going to love this one for a long time, I can tell.
Picked this up the other day at the Asian market. It is bagged, but right off, the “earthy” word comes to mind with the aroma in the cup and the first taste. The earthiness reminds me of mushrooms, truffles maybe but it is subtle. There are hints of hibiscus maybe? A small trace of menthol, hard to pinpoint. What ever it is, it does not linger, just is present then absorbed in the rest of the flavor.
This was my first ever Pu-erh and it is unlike anything I have ever tasted. Many mysteries yet to unravel with it…
I like this, any berry seems to go well with tea, this is no exception. The raspberry is centerstage but not overpowering. Like peanut butter and chocolate, the flavors of the tea and berry compliment and create something new. It will be good to compare this to other raspberry flavored teas in the future as a baseline.
A good, well-rounded cup, I am looking forward to trying more Bigelow teas…
After completely enjoying Tazo’s Organic Chai, I am disappointed. I guess my expectation was deep and bold flavor but like many others, I found it was highly astringent and bitter. However, I saw that someone gave it an ultra short steep and got better results, I will try that, but I am not very hopeful. Like another note I saw recently, I agree that this brand has so much potential but seems more concerned with marketing than taste.
I got this from a generous new friend. Had to try it out. I like the black tea flavor with hints
of spice and a bit of orange. It compares favorably to other holiday spiced teas I have tried.
I noticed more cinnamon than anything, I like cinnamon but I was expecting the other usual chai spices. That said it was enjoyable, just not what I was expecting.
I love this tea!
Had to do a double take, this is some black tea for sure, thought I mixed up with my coffee stash during the morning haze…the depth of flavor is amazing, rich, full bodied, and hearty. Seems like a comfort tea to me, might pair well a variety of fried foods and gravy…
Oh my, hunger is affecting my note!
Last of the free samples from Joy’s Teaspoon, thanks again and now I will have to make some decisions about what to order!
Many different flavors in this green, the flowers and fruit are front row, the Jasmine is subtle but there. As with all the samples, pure Joy.
More free samples from Joy’s Teaspoon!
I enjoyed this very much, I agree a lighter Chai, not as heavy on the spice as others.
Light but still full of flavor, a good option if you want less than full spice…
Free samples from Joy’s Teaspoon arrived today! Snow on the ground, another cold evening.
Perfect conditions to try Winter Wonderland. Anise is up front, love the balance of the black tea and spice. Makes me wish Winter will hang on for a while. Come on groundhog! Don’t let me down. Thanks Joy for a great cup tonight.
Good, but not overly exciting…I guess I am partial to other British Breakfasts, there was nothing wrong with this, just more to like in others I have tried.
Turns out it is good for breakfast as stated…whole wheat tortilla, some scrambled eggs, cheese and salsa. Not exactly the tradtional “English Breakfast” but works for me.
I love the depth of flavor this tea has, the aftertaste stays then draws you back to the cup for more…I am noticing that in the teas I like, almost magical.
Not just for breakfast is so true!
Waiting for winter weather with an old friend. Decided
to add some milk…yum pretty much covers it. Dark and rich too.
Started the day here, tradition, history, culture, and a near perfect mix of spices.
I have loved this tea for years…
Light, fragrant, hard to decide whether to enjoy the aroma or the taste…ok, both. Every sip reminds me of my favorite Vietnamese establishment and the frequent pairing with bun. I am getting hungry as a matter of fact!
After the more intense blacks so far today, this is light, delicate, and almost fragile in comparison. What a contrast!
I love this tea, actually drink it often even though I have not logged. I love the aftertaste, it lingers long after a sip goes down. The finish of this and Darjeeling are close. I was somewhat surprised to see that this is no longer offered in England. I still have so much to learn about tea!
mmmm …deep, full, flavor…they say the best..it is very good for sure.
Starting out the work day, it just seems right to start green then move into the black zone as the day goes on…wonder if I am the only one who thinks this way…for some it may be the other way around…or no black at all…
It is not just for Christmas, I love the flavors, like a Chai lite…
Good way to start the morning…wondering about making the leap to loose tea, how different it will be. I like a little flavoring in my green, next to Jasmine, Raspberry is my favorite.
